Code 8: Part II
(2024)

Not bad at all
People are complaining about how long it took, but I think they are forgetting that this was an Indiegogo funded movie that had COVID interfere.

The Amells thought up this movie as a brainchild and it was regular people like us who paid to have it made. It's not going to have all of the parts of a regular Hollywood movie, but considering that - it's super impressive. The effects were awesome. I don't think they will be winning any awards for story writing anytime soon, but it was still an interesting plot that held my interest and even went a few different directions than expected.

If we want movies made for the people, we have to consider the background. This wasn't some art student's crazy idea. It's good entertainment and an enjoyable watch that is worthwhile. Plus, seeing the Amells star in a movie together is totally worth it.

Expend4bles
(2023)

Still fun
Yeah, it's definitely not the best of the Expendables and there are fewer "cool" cameos, but it's still entertaining and the humour is pretty decent.

The Expendables has never been for soul-searching, thought-provoking character development - it's a fun action movie that pays homage to some of our favourite action stars and pulls on the nostalgia strings. The "cliches" or "corniness" of it is part of the point. I enjoyed it and will probably watch again for a simple fun movie.

I don't think the reviews and the ratings are entirely fair. That being said, I do miss some of the actors from the previous ones and it feels kind of like they just became too expensive or too tired to put in the movie.

The Horror of Dolores Roach
(2023)

Justina Machado *kills* this role (no pun intended)
Okay, maybe the pun was a bit intentional. In my defense, it does still ring true!

First, I have to say that Justina Machado is one of the greatest actors out there and I think she doesn't get nearly the credit she deserves. I'm a little disappointed in the rating, because I think this is one heck of a story and it's told by one heck of a storyteller.

This plot is completely unhinged and I absolutely love it! It's both bizarrely completely unbelievable, but also totally gets you on board. Very "Dexter-esque" but a bit more lighthearted. Also, I do have to give credit to the role of Luis as well. Just give it a try, I think when enough people get into it it'll be a big hit.

The Power
(2023)

If you "get it" it's a masterpiece
I'm convinced the people who voted this lowly did so because they missed the blaring parallels this show makes to our current society (but reversed). Some of the conversations sound exactly like conversations many of us have had in real life. "Girls will be girls" as opposed to "boys will be boys". Fantastic.

The characters are well developed and great to follow. The story development is realistic and believable. It really makes you think about what would happen if this were reality.

My best advice is to compare "The Power" to a gun or other weapon. It helps to explain some of the reactions, especially when it comes to spouses.

Deadstream
(2022)

Top Tier Horror
This had just the perfect mix of creepiness/horror, plus social commentary and humour (without the cringe factor). The main actor who also co-wrote and directed the movie does an incredible job of keeping your attention for so long.

There was a great combination of predictability vs. Surprise and the filming location was just perfect. Anyone who can make a movie this interesting without the budget of a Hollywood movie deserves some real recognition.

I'd love to see a movie like this get the same attention as some of the box office horror hits - total hidden gem! I am officially a forever fan.

Purple Hearts
(2022)

Pretty Cringey
I wanted to like it, was hoping to enjoy it as a lighthearted cheesy romance - but I could not sit through any more cringey liberal and conservative stereotypes. No one talks like this. It was painful to watch and a little too cliché for my liking.

Spiral: From the Book of Saw
(2021)

One Big Cliche After the Next
Lots of big name actors in here, but it's really hard to get past the predictable movie tropes and cliché character non-development/one-liners. Kind of reminds me of if an A. I. Wrote a murder thriller honestly.

The Haunting in Connecticut 2: Ghosts of Georgia
(2013)

Oof, the acting
Pretty standard horror except for the brutal acting - which is surprising because the actors in this are pretty decent actors from other excellent shows and movies. I'm guessing it was a director fail. Regardless, hard to take it seriously because it doesn't really have any sort of realism effect to it, unrealistic scenarios and conversations everywhere.

Dark Places, Deadly Illusions
(2021)

How did no one stop this??
This movie is sooooo bad. However, if you're like me, every now and then a terrible movie is great to watch while day drinking and crocheting. So if you're looking for something worthwhile, don't watch it, but if you're looking for something to have a good chuckle at, give it a go.

The Stand
(2020)

Honestly doesn't deserve the hate
If you haven't read the book and are just interested in a good story based on a Stephen King novel with some of your favourite actors then give it a try. I'm sure the book is fantastic on its own, I think the only major mistake of this show is that it's destined to be compared to the book and the last movie.

If you watch it and like it please give it some positive feedback so we can see more.

Behind Her Eyes
(2021)

A tad predictable
Definitely not a brand-new twist. It's pretty easy to predict and the emotions aren't entirely believable.

The Vanished
(2020)

Couldn't get through it
You figure out what's going on basically when they first arrive at the RV park and talk to the grounds manager. This twist has been done before a few too many times. Not my thing.

Hell House LLC III: Lake of Fire
(2019)

Really enjoyed it
I am a biiiig Hell House LLC fan. I wasn't super thrilled with the sequel, but I love what they did here for the third. They needed to close off the storyline and leave us with a sense of completion and I honestly thought this was the best way to accomplish it. Great job!!

Kadaver
(2020)

Plot holes galore
Way too many plot holes and the entire time you're waiting for a twist that never comes.

The Postcard Killings
(2020)

Fairly predictable
You can see where this is going fairly early, still worth watching to kill some time.

Ghost House
(2017)

Cliche acting
Some of the worst acting I've ever seen, and that's saying something for a horror movie. It was really hard to get into any of the characters. Plot was an interesting idea, but poorly executed.

Visions
(2015)

Standard mediocre horror
Acting wasn't great, all of the interactions between characters seemed disingenuous. The story isn't all that original. The majority of scary visions relied on loud sounds instead of scary sights. Still good for a background movie while you're doing something else.

Fantasy Island
(2020)

Way underrated
This is waaaay better than I expected. I decided to watch it despite the negative reviews and have no regrets. It's not the most shocking, mind-bending Oscar worthy movie but it is definitely enjoyable and worth a watch. Plus, I really enjoyed where they went with the plot. Cool idea.

Luna Nera
(2020)

Lacking substance
That's pretty much it. Reminds me of an old play, everything is scrambled together and rushed. Over-dramatic and the character "development" isn't really development, it's like a soap opera the way that people flip flop with no real reason for it.

Radio Silence
(2019)

Very predictable
Extremely predictable, nothing new or unique about it. Shallow characters. Poor storyline.

The Rain
(2018)

Rating a show based on one episode is childish and inaccurate
Yeah, the first episode is a little infuriating, but people have to remember that the kids are literally kids in the first episode and they have no way to react to an emergency properly. The show picks up from the second episode on and you really start to connect with the characters.

Tabula Rasa
(2017)

Not the ending you'd hope for or expect
Tabula Rasa was gripping from start to finish. It full of plot twists and "shockers". Throughout the majority of the series the shockers are somewhat predictable, but there's always unanswered questions that keep you watching. The last half hour of the finale is where things really threw me for a loop, everything I thought I knew and thought I'd seen coming was thrown out the window and we are taught that Tabula Rasa is ultimately a tragedy.

I believe this show is 100% worthwhile to watch, but go in with the mindset that you may end up with A LOT of feelings afterward.
