Rolling Thunder Revue: A Bob Dylan Story by Martin Scorsese
(2019)

Awful
Who could take great concert performances, cut them brutally, and give us bloated intoxicated narcissists and fraudulent stories? Marty Scorsese trying to out-Dylan Dylan. Awful.

The Truth About Youth
(1930)

Loretta Young
The first 60 seconds when Loretta Young enters in that special dress talking to the character "Dick" is worth the price of admission itself. Silly fun pre Code with Myrna Loy & Loretta Young? 7 stars!

Accent on Youth
(1935)

May December Romance
Herbert Marshsal could carry a script and Sylvia Sidney could stop a train with her eyes. Well written and well acted.

The Naughty Flirt
(1930)

Bugs Bunny's inspiration
This is what pre code is all about: fun dialogue, wealthy heiress, thin plots and happy endings.

Alice White is a howl of fun here.

If you don't like this, youlll not like pre code.

Devotion
(1931)

Suffering, Suffering
No one suffers more in movie after movie than Ann Harding. The suffering is gloriously acute, intense and wonderfully relentless.

One Rainy Afternoon
(1936)

Fun Romantic Comedy
This is a fun romantic comedy which relies upon Ida Lupina's face expressions to do much communication. This is an under rated enjoyable movie w lots of laughs. Ida is terrific.

Romance in Manhattan
(1934)

Fun Touching Movie
My family immigrated at a time when America was the land of opportunity. The "Protestant Work Ethic" (they were Roman Catholic) was that any work that provided for one's Family was "holy" or "honorable." Anyone could work hard and dream big. This sustained them in the Great Depression where self sacrifice and American rugged individualism triumphed. This movie, like so many of the classics, remind us of what a great country America was, in an era of hard times. The success story of love and hard work is touching in spite of its overuse. This movie works.

The immigrants came to work and assimilate. They took the oath of citizenship, eschewed welfare and prevailed. The setting of the underdog works here.

Another feel good oldie to enjoy!

Another Language
(1933)

Touching Drama
These non politically correct movies are the most enjoyable. Although his comedy is best, Robert Monty's drama skills are put to good use in this romantic drama. Snobby family versus down-to-earth daughter in law is predictable but it still works.

-But the Flesh Is Weak
(1932)

Monty's Always Funny
The typical argument to marry for money or love, with now the male gold digger. Fun movie. Robert Montgomery did a good job with less than stellar script but still enjoyable.

The Golden Arrow
(1936)

Fun Predictable
Heiress fins in the 30's are most always interesting and entertaining. The message is the same: rich bsd, poor good. He, it works. Bette Davis was a versatile actress who could pull off anything. George Brent made a good partner. 1929-1939 produced the most enjoyable films over other decades. It's pathetic that TCM feels the need to apologize for non PC movies. Soon, movies that display human nature accurately may be banned.

Enjoy them while you can. This is a fun one.

Beauty and the Boss
(1932)

No PC Here
Rapid fire dialog rips through this charming pre code gem so fast you'll have to put down your iPhone to enjoy. Marian Marsh shines and Warren William is offensive and hilarious.
