King of the Hill: Happy Hank's Giving
(1999)
Episode 7, Season 4

second best episode
this episode, is so damn funny!! it is so well done, and typical of a family trying to fly on the holidays...families that have no idea how the airline business works, at their mercy......so life like in it's execution..... ..the only inaccuracy here concerns dale, but it is still too funny...... it is second only to the king of the hill episode where the boys become volunteer firefighters, only to burn down their own fire house!!!....hank is especially funny as he inexperienced leads his brood through the airport, while cradling his bird....bobby's gluttony is apparent, and his dis like of salad, and his face is a must see!!

Alvin and the Chipmunks
(2007)

excellent
this film is a delight. very well done, the acting is terrific. the actor who plays "david seville" looks a lot like the original "david seville". if you can't fall in love with all three chipmunks, especially theodore, you have no soul. the story line is excellent. the song "witch doctor" is modernized a bit, but not enough to ruin it's ever lasting charm. "david seville sr." can look down with pride at how his legacy is being handled by "david seville jr.". hopefully, this film will be a great success, and result in a few more feature films on the adventures of these timeless characters.

definitely a must see, and a DVD purchase, when released. great job one and all!!!

Starting Over
(1979)

excellent film, but academy nomination for bergen???
this film is very well done, portraying those very real situations that people find them selves.

first off, in small but very important, vibrant roles, Mary sternhagen, and Charles durning once again prove their worth, their talent, and their ability to MATTER to a story. both of these actors are just fantastic at recognizing their roles, and DELIVERING more than needed. just fantastic.

also look for Austin Pendleton, in a small but vital role playing it to the hilt. he is a spectacular actor who deserves way more credit and recognition then he receives from Hollywood. versatile, fantastic actor. without actors like him, Hollywood would never survive.

as to the two female leads, well, one and a half, as i can't see why Candice bergen would be nominated for an academy award for this limited performance. she is definitely a major part of the story, BUT NOT A MAJOR FORCE ON THE SCREEN. now, Jill clayburgh, on the other hand is so good in her role here, and so believable, that she definitely deserved recognition. she has the character, the personal trauma, the desperation, the fear down pat. bergen, on the other hand, while she does nail the character, is not that memorable at all.

and Burt Reynolds, is is usual magnificent self, giving 110 % to the story, the character, the production.

if you are an aspiring actor, STUDY Burt Reynolds. he is far more than a plastic banana head sex symbol, leading man. he is of the same cloth of classic actors Humphrey Bogart, Clark gable, john Wayne.....he gets the character down, and gives his all.

this film is a keeper, very well done, and keeps your rapt interest in the final outcome, WHICH IS NOT ETCHED IN STONE, by any means. it can go either way.

well produced, well directed, and well acted.

Pray TV
(1980)

great parody of the religion business
this film is such a great commentary, like the film repossess, on the business behind organized religion, not only on TV and radio, but on your street corner.

the skits are simply hysterical. they move through very quickly, and help keep your interest through the sub plot of greed, along with the stupidity of the faithful. the skits are designed to offend the religious zealots in the audience, and they succeed. those in the audience who understand the hypocrisy of religions, will roar with laughter, and a tremendous awakening.

dabney coleman plays his part to the hilt, it's kind of like the mr.hart character from 9-5, with a lesser edge. mr. coleman is a fantastic actor, and he takes this part all the way.

the other actors are also well cast, not a bad performance in the lot.

in a nut shell, if your a religious zealot, YOU WILL BE OFFENDED by this film, no matter WHAT religion you practice. it's like a don ricles monologue....it hits EVERYONE....no one is spared. and it is hysterically funny, and very true to life.

Guess Who
(2005)

could have been much better
wow, i was expecting a bigger comedy film than i got. very few laughs, those that are there, are few and far between. the acting is pretty good, however, but the script is lacking punch. the ending is well done. but this film is lacking a comedic touch. it seems they were going way too far to make a social comment, to provoke thought. they also should have used the grandfather much more, he was funny in his short time on the screen. same with the aunt, and the girl friends. all in all, a good film, but far from great. a missed opportunity for a superb film. all the actors are very believable in their roles, and when one finds out the reason for the resignation, one is amazed

Are We There Yet?
(2005)

a 3??? are you guys mutants???
this film again proves the mature ice cube as an entertainer, and producer of comedy that has social redeeming features as well. you sit there wondering what is going to happen next, and are surprised by the answer. it has a tremendous comedy feel, and guess what??? the story is told without every other word a four letter word, or t & a needed to attract attention. the kids are great, cube is great, this film is a great diversion for a couple of hours. ice cube, like steve martin before him, has matured into a fantastic film maker, for all people. same with cedric the entertainer, he too is a film maker to watch in the future.

keep them coming cube, your on the right track for a sustained, long, appreciated career.

Island in the Sky
(1953)

go duke go
after sitting through "the high and the mighty", this film was a RAY OF DUKE SUNSHINE!!!!! it is simply awesome from start to finish, a great study in human determination, and survival, not only of the stranded, but of the searchers. john wayne's performance here is pure duke, along with harry carey jr., andy devine, bob steele, lloyd nolan, and all the others. not one bad scene, not one bad line, not one bad picture. after sitting through the "high and the mighty" the night before, and then this, i can't see how ANYONE can rate that long, boring, silly film above this one. it has all the stupendous duke elements. great story, great acting, great cinematography, great supporting cast, and on the edge of your seat excitement. love ya duke, AND MISS YOU. rip dear duke, rest in peace, and thank you for your films you left us.

The High and the Mighty
(1954)

not enough duke
very over rated, quite disappointed over this film. the passengers lives are not interesting, robert stack as usual is a wooden, uninspiring actor. it also is missing all the great "wayne players" who could have brought life and excitement to this bland presentation. the duke is fabulous, there just is not enough of him. very disappointing after all the hype from "those in the know".............it reminds me of the "titanic" movie with clfton webb, and bawa stanwyck....webb saves the film from a completely uninspiring, bland wooden performance by stanwyck. the whole movie is in the last 30 minutes, on both of these films. robert stack's character is not developed at all. in fact, in the "mighty", none of the crew other than wayne are established.

all in all, a five because of wayne, everyone else could have called in their performances.
