The Haunting of Hill House
(2018)

Best horror series I've seen in a long time--maybe ever!
I am a lifelong horror fan--not the slasher horror, but THIS kind of horror, the real deal, with ghosts, both malevolent and friendly. There's not enough real horror movies (good ones) or series of this type! The Haunting of Hill House has an 8.9 rating as I write this review. A high number that should be higher. Take away the reviewers who just look for things to complain about and find fault with everything, and the rating would be a 9+. Complaints of too many monologues and unwelcome melodrama--I find nothing wrong with monologues, if they add to the drama--and they did. It is a dramatic piece, with well-developed characters living their lives, not melodrama. The acting was spot on and each episode kept me on the edge of my seat, wanting to stay with it and watch the whole series at once. But, one has to sleep sometime! I loved this from start to finish. The ending was perfect! I wouldn't change a thing, beginning, middle or end.

The Open House
(2018)

One star is being generous!
I don't know how the average is 3.3. I scanned through several reviews and saw an incredible amount of 1/10.

This movie was complete garbage. Not a horror movie--a thriller, I suppose, although I don't feel thrilled. I do feel horrified that I wasted my time watching it. Do not bother watching. Ever.

The OA
(2016)

The OA is excellent! I want a season 2 right now!
I have watched a lot of movies and TV series, and seldom do I take the time to write a review. Actually, the only reviews I've written have been negative, of movies I strongly disliked.

The OA is so good and so engaging, I had to write my first positive review. I skimmed some reviews of The OA already on IMDb, including negative ones--each to their own opinion, I guess. Some people are cynics and some people spend their time looking for flaws and gaffs in movies and series, but I prefer to sit back and enjoy this for what it is; a well-written, thought-provoking and enjoyable story. It left me thinking about what happened, hungry for what happened next, and made it almost impossible to stop watching until I'd watched every episode.

I pretty much binge watched the whole thing, not in one sitting, but over two days. And now it's over...why do I do this to myself? I'll just have to wait for season 2. But, admittedly, if there is never a season 2, season 1 was good as it is, with its unanswered questions and some intrigue.

Rebirth
(2016)

"a nightmare with no escape"
I thought it might be worthwhile watching. As it began, I thought it had potential to be, maybe not great, but an okay thriller. Stuck with it. Wanted to turn it off, but stuck with it (thought it had to get better, there must be some great surprise coming).

Well, there's 1 hour, 40 minutes and 27 seconds I'll never get back. SO bad, so very very bad.

There it is, right at the top of the Netflix screen, NETFLIX ORIGINAL. Sucked me in, tempted me to watch it--Netflix original, probably good, right? HA!

Yes, it definitely is a nightmare--but there IS an escape. Don't start watching. If you do start to watch, and think it will get better, it won't. Turn it off. End the nightmare that is "Rebirth".

The Visit
(2015)

I like supernatural horror.... :-(
From the trailer and the hype about the movie, I was looking forward to a good old horror movie--not the slasher type, but the supernatural type. I was disappointed. It was a thriller. It did have some scares, and one time I actually jumped--a little. And I didn't figure "it" out until I was supposed to, which was satisfying--I hate figuring out a plot twist too early. But, it was not a supernatural-type horror movie.

The movie started off very slowly. I actually found much of the first half quite funny, but I don't know if it was supposed to be. The kids' dialogue was not believable, the premise was not believable (what parent sends her two kids off on a train to grandparents she's been estranged from for years and her kids have never met???) and the kids' acceptance for the crazy actions of the "grandparents" was far from believable.

Wait a minute. I gave this movie a 6 at first. After writing this, I downgraded it to a 5. And that's probably too high. But I've seen worse!
