Emergency NYC
(2023)

Compelling show, too much propaganda destroyed it.
Like others have said, this series had a lot of great info, some very interesting aspects of care and surgery as well as a great flow between several hospitals showing the problems medical staff endure to take care of their fellow human being.

In between all of that greatness is nonstop propaganda for gun control, plugs about gun violence, equity and almost a weird reverence toward Covid and it's impact on some people.

Some of the doctors are more hippy and shaman inspired than I expected, they did prayer circles and crystal healing bowls...yeah, toss in some alchemy while we're at it.m right before neurosurgery.

American Ultra
(2015)

What was I even watching?
I hate to post negative reviews, but this film is a hot mess on many levels. Not a comedy, not drama, not action but a mix of all three that never seemed to find it's footing or really get going in any meaningful direction.

The best part of the film was John Leguizamo. His character was horrendous but he played it so well...then gets murdered in a scene that's over before you can blink. I've seen extras get better death scenes.

Worst part? Probably Kristen Stewart and her less than cardboard cutout acting ability. She was followed close by Topher Grace his canny ability to make me thoroughly believe he isn't a government agent....at all. Not even a good bad guy.

The story itself was so dull, they tried too hard to be witty and cool but the stoner know-nothing who is an trained killer never worked and wasn't remotely convincing.

Jesse Eisenberg was real good acting out his role as Jesse Eisenberg.

Last gripe, and this is a weird one even for me but the unnecessary barrage of the F-word just detracted from many scenes. It seemed forced and out of character, some of the actors had to force their way through those lines and it showed.

Rambo: Last Blood
(2019)

Weird installment to Rambo
Loved the film, lots of fun and a cool story but I don't see how this is a Rambo film. You could have changed the hero's name to anything else and this could have been a great stand alone film without any "Rambo" push.

Excellent acting, brutal ending and plot twists, all around good film just not Rambo, more Taken meets Death Sentence.

Maid
(2021)

Interesting story, infuriating protagonist
Title sums it up nicely, the story was great but the decisions the protagonist made throughout the film were absolutely infuriating and ridiculous.

If you want to watch a series that entertains go elsewhere.

If you want to yell at the screen because the star does the obviously opposite thing than she should every single time, this is for you.

My neck hurt from shaking my head so much.

The Matrix Resurrections
(2021)

Should have been straight to video
The charm and story of the trilogy is lost, part 4 is just good enough for a straight to video release. It just felt cheap, story was very mediocre, special effects weren't interesting or needed.

I applaud the attempt at something new, but I don't understand how no one working on the film couldn't tell it was THIS bad.

Cardboard acting, lame story...I won't go on, just know it took me 3 sitting to finish over 2 days. Yeah, it's that bad.

House of 1000 Corpses
(2003)

Guess you have to love Rob Zombie because it's trippy garbage!
This is literally one of the worst "horror" movies I have seen, nothing was remotely scary visually or psychologically. The story had nothing noteworthy or compelling, I didn't care one little bit about the characters on either side and the pacing at times was terribly slow.

The entire movie was a bore and hard to watch, it was significantly more about funky camera angles and flashing scenes than anything else. The actors were mostly cardboard aside from Capt Spaulding, his part should have been expanded and the rest of the family removed.

All in all, I guess you have to really really like Rob Zombies films, this was a real let down and certainly soured my concept of his films as a whole, it was just trippy garbage with a horror theme.

The Invisible Man
(2020)

Bad reviews are correct! Good idea, simply terrible execution.
Glad I only rented this mess, how it got a 92% fresh and over 7 star rating is well beyond me. The entire film was Swiss cheese, by that I mean illogical plot holes that never get filled and just keep coming. The writers for this film clearly though all other humans are idiots or are themselves extremely lazy and just pushed out the first outline available. It's a hot mess. I didn't like it from the first irritating scene and it never improved.

The idea was great, acting was ok but irritating at times and the directing was good. But overall execution of the film was shoddy. If you want to read about plot holes there's a hundred other posts highlighting them.

Do not buy this mess! It's barely a 1-time watch and I'd advise waiting for it to be free.

A Quiet Place
(2018)

Painfully slow, illogical at times and spoiled potential.
I really like the idea and concept of the film, but the direction and pacing is so slow I can't stay interested in the story or get drawn into it. I am literally 4 days into watching it, my family bailed after the first day but I am determined to finish it even at 10-15 minute intervals.

Don't get me started on how illogical it is, creatures attracted to noise is a cool idea but the execution for the monsters is hollow with little backstory and they have no real embodiment. The family decisions are borderline idiotic, to be nice, and interactions between the monsters and the family are brief and happenstance.

All the good parts are in the trailer. The rest of the movie in between the trailer cuts are dull, slow and boring. I get it, this is supposed to be an auditory movie, but it doesn't work.

There is a sequel coming out in 2 months so I might finish in time to watch it when I can stream it, no way I'll pay for this.
