Ambush
(2023)

How horrible? Let me count the ways
I'm a Vietnam vet. Well I began writing things down starting with the horrible salute given and laughable beret worn by the Special Forces captain I ran out of paper. The huey is wrong. The uniforms and weapons are wrong. There was no ambush. The corporal is called sir. One guy has a beard. Insignia are screwed up. Camouflage uniforms are after the war. Most of the M16s are A2s, the wrong model A couple of hours of research would have been helpful. And not just Commando comic books. Obviously they had no military advisor or if they did they ignored him. Just a terrible waste of time. Probably the worst war movie I've ever seen.

Zombie Tidal Wave
(2019)

Just hideous
It's like somebody drove a minivan by a 1st year acting class on campus and a bunch of students jumped in. Then off they went to make a movie. Oh, and the students had all been kicked out of the class.

Moulin Rouge!
(2001)

Stunning
Full disclosure. I am not a fan of musicals. I'm a lover of epic westerns, film noir of the late 40s, classic syfy and dark comedies. But my wife likes musicals so I rented this years ago. I was captivated from the opening scene. Within 20 minutes I longed to be in Paris in 1899. I wanted to be a bohemian artist. I wanted a tiny apartment with perking paint and a view of the Seine. What a story! The naysayers who were bored by this must be very cold and unimaginative souls indeed. The film swept me along and at the end I was so glad I had experienced it. Possibly the only film both my wife and I love unconditionally. We now have tapes, dvds, blue rays, and I'm sure whatever the next generation of electronic entertainment is we'll get that too. Timeless stuff and Hollywood at it's best.

Brothers in Arms
(2018)

Just bad
Another lame "reality show". As a former Army officer I can't begin to address the inaccuracies, fractured history comments and just plain silliness of this show. 14 year old video gamers may like it but it's certainly not for firearms enthusiasts, military historians, or simply adults. Please cancel this mess.

Carter
(2018)

Enjoyable
Okay I'm a red blooded American retired police officer...and sorry, but I like this show. A light, breezy, entertaining romp with good characters. I've always liked O'Connell. I have the ability to suspend disbelief when it comes to cop shows like this one because it's just fun. The "serious" cop shows just turn me off. I'll continue to watch Carter for a relaxing evening while sipping a quality bourbon....or occasionally a good Canadian whiskey.

Unbranded
(2015)

An honest and totally engrossing film
I had no real expectations before seeing this film. All I knew was that it was about a long trail ride. What I got was simply a great look into an adventure experienced by four recent college grads, but not in a Where The Boys Are scenario. These young men undertook a trek riding mustangs from the Mexican to the Canadian border through the amazing public lands of the West. The controversial management of the wild horse herds in America was looked at impartially from both sides. Beautifully filmed and edited, this film will be earning multiple honors if there is any justice in the world of cinema. It is one of the best made documentaries I've seen in years. Not a moment drags. The challenges faced and overcome with strength, friendship, humor, and guts should give us hope that the character of America's young people is still strong. One great movie!
