The Grand Tour
(2016)

Honest, unsolicited opinion
I'l basically start at the top of the show, and give my impressions as the show went on. From the three pages of reviews written thus far, only one gave an unbiased view, and surprise, surprise... It gets the most unhelpful clicks. Keep your head up buddy... Lots of fan boys and people associated w the show are the reason, but some of us actual, TV watching couch potatoes have the right to comment just the same.

Very first impression... Wow, I can't believe we have this much money in the wold to just burn. I mean wow... They spent so much money on the opening sequence, that they could have fed a small African country for a solid month or two. And it was all such a let down... Once they got out of the cars and to the stage, well, it was all underwhelming, same as once the show started in the tent.

Lots of glam shots of three super cars where the actual info on the cars wasn't developed very well, but they did use high end cameras and angles. You can def see the difference in image quality from the prev shows. But, will the huge budget ruin their charm? Feels like it so far.

Nothing really funny in the dialogue unfortunately. The old version also produced duds here and there, but there were also hilarious points/episodes. This one wasn't very witty or amusing, the banter seemed contrived. The first episode was more in the dud category for amusement. The only point that I actually laughed was when attempting to introduce the celebrities, in particular, Renner was the funny spot. At no other time did I feel amused or very entertained, unfortunately. I actually felt the desire to bail from the episode a couple of times, but just had to stick w it... After all the waiting and anticipation.

Test track seems okay. But this was the arguably the best part of the old show, and it seems to be the one thing they didn't transport well to the new. No small car, no standardization of a baseline for comparing results, no stig to benchmark, no actual celeb behind the wheel, the hosts didn't even lap a time. Disappointed here more than anything else. Hopefully they will fix this. Please fix this.

Overall, it was interesting to see the ridiculous amount of money they spent, and I hope this will pan out better in future episodes, but it was a dud on the first outing. It feels as if they jumped the shark almost. I hope that is not the case, but these guys aren't exactly hungry anymore, and now they have a glammed over, high production value, hollywoodish type of show that has lost a bit of it's obscure charm. I truly hope the great British baking show doesn't go the same route. It's like the trio has been 'americanized'... Oh say it ain't so... Here's to hope for the future episodes!

MacGyver
(2016)

A simple idea...
Network TV shouldn't be allowed to create any more new 'content'.

Just remove them from the mix, and let them run 24/7 commercials, just about the only thing they do well. And don't forget, only reason the commercials can be any good is because the networks aren't making them. So don't even let them make the commercials they will air.

Simple fix to what we are watching.

Which was worse? The macgyver reboot, or the xfiles? That's a tough one, but at least the xfiles was a blatant attempt at a one time cash grab, with little intent to abuse us with it for very long. Somehow, someway, someone thinks this show will run multiple seasons. And these folks are making darn good money to do it. Disgust all the way around.

Id rather watch someone trying to convince me to buy specialty toilet paper for my dog.

Match Game
(2016)

Actually funny
Was surprised by the negative reviews, so wanted to offer a counter to the nostalgic viewpoints. And just to say, I was a kid during the original show, and did see reruns here and there, but was never much of a fan. Didn't find it compelling in any noticeable way.

This version is actually very funny, and a good deal of that is because of AB as host. From my perspective, they said take your naturally quirky humor of 30 Rock, and get into the character of a cheesy game show host. It totally works, he is just funny. It has to be a hard gig, especially doing it over and over and over again over time, but right now, he is really quick witted and humorous. He has good chemistry for the role.

I actually just watched something like my fifth or sixth episode this evening... was basically smiling the whole way through. How often does that get to happen?

I am amazed how hard some the contestants and celebs make it... Some of the questions are really obvious, but get no correct matches. And yet some questions get so dumbed down, that they really aren't a challenge at all. Think the bonus round match "peanut ..."?!? I mean come on, who can possibly miss that? So yeah, I am critical in the sense that this show isn't very compelling from the perspective of having the home audience really investing themselves in the contestant outcomes, but I felt the same way from the original.

It can improve in the writing, and selection of both contestants and celebs, but really does stand out because of AB's humor in his role as host. We will see over time, but pretty darn funny stuff out of the gates.

The X-Files: Re-Opened
(2015)

Insulting to the original fan base
Absolutely horrible, just horrible... Episode 1's writing/dialogue is so very bad that the actors couldn't keep from smirking during their lines. It only gets worse from here. From product placement cuts to joel mchale to the writing to the lack of seriousness by dd... It is an incredible insult to the original fans. Just absolutely unwatchable. This is my only review on the site to date, just to express my complete dissatisfaction with this renewal.

Bottom line, it felt as of carter was/is fed up with the xfile legacy and decided to make a 'Community' style parody of the show, primarily to alienate his old fan base and give everyone the flying bird. The writing is so bad it insults the intelligence of the viewer, assuming that viewer took seriously the chance of a real xfile reload as happening. Not even the actors took it seriously, though w how bad the dialog was it is hard to blame them for not taking it seriously. It wasn't even a good parody, not at any point was it funny or amusing. Just insulting.

Clearly this was done not for attempting to make a quality show, but to hit and run a cash pay day. Taints my love for the original series, and movies. This isn't a tribute, it isn't a parody, it is just horrible TV. And insulting to the intelligence of the viewer. Disgusted. Totally unwatchable. Horrible. I have much more descriptive feelings, but IMDb wont let me write those words. Just absolutely horrible... And i blame cc. Though dd didn't do anything but wear a smirk under every line he uttered, so even he didn't take it seriously. GA at least tried, and mchale gets a pass simply because he isn't an actor at all, and is at least intelligent enough to recognize the junk he was scripted to speak. Horrible effort all around, except ga, though what could even she do w the writing? Nothing. It was all very, very bad.

Don't believe the 10/10's
I am giving it a 1/10 in an attempt to offset the number of perfect 10's, which if having seen the episodes, makes one wonder if there are shills at play. Maybe I'd give it a 2 otherwise. Read the other negative reviews and you will get a much more accurate picture of the reboot.

2cents: it is as if no one from the original series took this reboot seriously, as in trying to actually deliver on good TV, and this is especially true of CC... The writing is horrible, as is the directing, and the only main character that kind of tried (scully) was hobbled by the writing and directing. You would look into mulder's eye and basically see a smirk reflecting back at you, and mchale didn't even really try to hide it... He was actually smirking, and my guess is laughing to himself about the horrible dialogue he was forced into saying. Mchale was a gimmick anyway (like the product placement cuts), and is just an example of the series not taking things seriously. It felt more like a community parody where ahbed was going to pop out as cheesy fx'd alien. It was so bad in this regard, that i was left w a face of disgust while watching, wanting to change the channel multiple times, yet forcing myself to just get through it, apparently as a misplaced sense of fan loyalty. Others have commented that as a true fan that watched it all during live airing, one is left w feeling of being personally attacked (somehow),and leaving us almost angry at CC directly. Really, in all honesty, so far, the whole thing has been a horrible experience. Just awful TV... Everything that is wrong w modern network broadcasting. Just horrible.

An aside... Use this opportunity to notice the positive professional reviews... You can really pick out the knuckleheads. Soooo disappointed.
