Honest, unsolicited opinion I'l basically start at the top of the show, and give my impressions as the show went on. From the three pages of reviews written thus far, only one gave an unbiased view, and surprise, surprise... It gets the most unhelpful clicks. Keep your head up buddy... Lots of fan boys and people associated w the show are the reason, but some of us actual, TV watching couch potatoes have the right to comment just the same.
Very first impression... Wow, I can't believe we have this much money in the wold to just burn. I mean wow... They spent so much money on the opening sequence, that they could have fed a small African country for a solid month or two. And it was all such a let down... Once they got out of the cars and to the stage, well, it was all underwhelming, same as once the show started in the tent.
Lots of glam shots of three super cars where the actual info on the cars wasn't developed very well, but they did use high end cameras and angles. You can def see the difference in image quality from the prev shows. But, will the huge budget ruin their charm? Feels like it so far.
Nothing really funny in the dialogue unfortunately. The old version also produced duds here and there, but there were also hilarious points/episodes. This one wasn't very witty or amusing, the banter seemed contrived. The first episode was more in the dud category for amusement. The only point that I actually laughed was when attempting to introduce the celebrities, in particular, Renner was the funny spot. At no other time did I feel amused or very entertained, unfortunately. I actually felt the desire to bail from the episode a couple of times, but just had to stick w it... After all the waiting and anticipation.
Test track seems okay. But this was the arguably the best part of the old show, and it seems to be the one thing they didn't transport well to the new. No small car, no standardization of a baseline for comparing results, no stig to benchmark, no actual celeb behind the wheel, the hosts didn't even lap a time. Disappointed here more than anything else. Hopefully they will fix this. Please fix this.
Overall, it was interesting to see the ridiculous amount of money they spent, and I hope this will pan out better in future episodes, but it was a dud on the first outing. It feels as if they jumped the shark almost. I hope that is not the case, but these guys aren't exactly hungry anymore, and now they have a glammed over, high production value, hollywoodish type of show that has lost a bit of it's obscure charm. I truly hope the great British baking show doesn't go the same route. It's like the trio has been 'americanized'... Oh say it ain't so... Here's to hope for the future episodes!
