Michael Clayton
(2007)

Requires Multiple Viewings to Fully Appreciate
I didn't understand a lot of the nuances and hints throughout the film until multiple rewatches. It's become one of my favorite films. Incredible acting and direction.

It's a smart thriller and I guess I wasn't expecting I had to be so engaged to catch all the story details first time through. On multiple other viewings I caught all the details that the director intended. Just wish the trio of actors could have worked on more legal thrillers. I'm a big fan of Grisham films and this tops all of those.

The story is obvious but the weightiness of it all just sits with you after watching the film. Not a light watch but one to enjoy if you're in the mood for thinking not just zoning out.

Tulsa King
(2022)

Unbelievable at Times but Very Entertaining
It is incredibly unbelievable at points but the entertainment factor is through the roof. The story keeps pushing forward at a fast pace but it has great dialogue, intriguing concept and great execution of it. If you suspend disbelief at points, it is incredibly satisfying.

The cinematography, atmosphere and directing is solid. Editing has some weak points.

I am a fan of mobster movies/shows but not the biggest fan. This plays on all the typical stereotypes of mobsters and cowboys in the South, biker gangs but the stereotypes and acting is believable. Don't watch for some kind of realistic mobster show.

Fat Man and Little Boy
(1989)

Underrated Gem
Very solid movie with some surprisingly moving scenes. Highly recommended if you have any interest in the Hanford nuclear site, Oppenheimer, the Manhattan Project or World War 2.

The only downside is the pacing of the movie didn't allow for any one particular part to be fleshed out fully. If it was 2 1/2 hours long the director could have done this but I understand the decision to keep it shorter too it's a balancing act.

I really enjoyed this movie in preparation for more backstory before watching Oppenheimer. The acting is very good, the dialogue is solid, but the screenplay could use a little work imo.

American Movie
(1999)

Brutal Reality
This documentary shows the reality that poverty can have on following your dream in America but it is still possible. Very interesting documentary it is worth a watch if you are a big fan of the art of film. Mark shows that making movies takes determination and money more than it does any real training or skill yet he clearly has somewhat of an eye for cinematic shots. Mostly I was fascinated by the unfiltered look behind the scenes of a lower class family with little ambition.

Mark seems to have gone on and had a career in filmmaking since so his dreams really have come true. A reminder that if even someone with many roadblocks in life like Mark can go toward their dreams so can anyone.

Better Call Saul: Nippy
(2022)
Episode 10, Season 6

A morality tale?
We see even in Saul's "retirement" he is living by looking over his shoulder moreso than before retirement. It is certainly getting me to think it is both a morality tale and further character development of Gene. Crime never pays because you always have to look over your shoulder? I enjoyed it for what it was, the setup was classic Jimmy doing a long con.

Only thing I'm disappointed in is we don't hear/see of what happened with Kim after episode 9. Maybe that is building the suspense even more for us. I sure hope that's not the end of conflict with her. Feel like that could have been a full episode going down that path further, which I would have enjoyed more than a full episode of Gene. But hey I've learned not to question these guys are genius writers and have a way of tying everything together so well in a short amount of time. That's why I give it 9/10.

Uncharted
(2022)

It won't win any Oscars but that's ok
Uncharted is based off a very popular video game so knowing that going in helps prepare you for it. It is nor particularly realistic or logical. Think Indiana Jones and National Treasure on steroids. It is very intense and has great action sequences that are fit for the big screen. If you enjoy pure mindless action and adventure this has it all.

Dead Poets Society
(1989)

The best coming of age film I've seen
The battle cry for youth looking to branch out against societal norms: carpe diem. It is the best coming of age film I've ever seen or know of. It invokes emotion and passion and motivates you to look at your own life to see if you've settled in areas you shouldn't. I've seen it over a dozen times now and it gets better each time I watch it as I catch more subtleties.

Better Call Saul
(2015)

Rewatched it 12 times
I've watched the entire series over 12 times at this point, I've lost count.... I guess I like the show.

Jim Gaffigan: The Pale Tourist
(2020)

Gaffigan at his worst
I've enjoyed all of Jim's previous stand up routines, been watching his stuff for a decade. But this one is just boring and cringeworthy (the hideous accents) at parts. Maybe laughed two times total between the episodes.

All he is doing is reciting facts about Canada and Spain respectively and trying to be relevant with the crowd but it just does not work at all. Feels like just a cash grab, he really should rethink his entire strategy and approach. The same schtick just isn't working any more he needs to reinvent his act.

Saving Private Ryan
(1998)

How could it not be a 10/10?
For what the film is it's nearly flawless. A realistic depiction of WW2 and the destruction it caused families

The Usual Suspects
(1995)

Great movie the first time you watch it...
The more times you watch this movie you see the sloppiness and gimmicks behind it. I've watched it a half dozen times now and never again. The big twist, once revealed and thought about really is ludicrous. Pointless movie because it's pointless for Spacey to talk to the cops for hours...

Kingsman: The Golden Circle
(2017)

Has to be worst movie sequel I've seen in a long time
Here's the high points:

Good acting, great action sequences with some sweet cinematography.

Everything else in the movie is absolute garbage. The movie ranges from parts that are truly disturbing to completely juvenile and downright infantile comedic parts.

I only gave it 4 because I enjoyed the action a lot. There are some legitimately amazingly done and uniquely executed action scenes.

I Am Number Four
(2011)

Solid film for teenagers...
When I first watched it about 7 years I really liked it...watching it again I've obviously grown in my tastes...only watch if you enjoy sophomoric humor and films.
