Song of the Dead
(2005)

My Friend cried after this movie, it was so bad...
I had the unfortunate opportunity to sit through this ghastly waste of digital video during a St. Louis film festival. The whole premise of the movie was, "Let's compare a zombie holocaust to the war in Iraq, and make our movie as patriotic as possible..." Reggie Bannister in a shiny Uncle Sam's suit belting out patriotic opera rock? This guy was in Phantasm, for Christ's sake! He's just a step below Bruce Campbell on the coolness scale. But in SOTD, it is truly an embarrassment to see him reduced to lip-syncing a terribly recorded, grassroots, anti-war, hippie ditty. Why, Reggie, Why? An obvious, low budget feature, shot in Columbia, MO, SOTD severely lacks a hook. The first song didn't even having me tapping my feet, and by the fourth and fifth reprise of that God-Awful "United We Stand" song, I was forcing myself to fall asleep in the theater. My friends wouldn't leave cause they were hoping for a nude scene or something to make the $7 tickets worthwhile...I should have driven myself.

I did laugh a few times at the unintentional humor that comes with watching a piece of crap. This really could have been a good ten minute short. But it dragged and droned and on and on, and let's rip off this zombie movie a little, and let's rip off Evil Dead....I thought a zombie musical would be fun. Instead, I had to console my sobbing friend on the way home, since we both had been raped by this visual abortion called "Song of the Dead." Please don't see this and give this movie any more attention. It really doesn't deserve any. If you want to watch a crappy movie with your friends, rent Troll 2, Pinata Island, or Bewitched.
