Pawno
(2015)

A very special movie
Pawno is an exceptionally special movie, it is tragic in many ways, but also has some exceptionally light-hearted and quite funny moments throughout. It represents a day or so in the lives of those who visit pawn shops. Whilst set in Footscray, quite deliberately, it could be a pawn shop in other parts of Melbourne, or the world. The Footscray backdrops allows a slight investigation to the multicultural melting pot of the suburb.

Really most notably, and for those who are unaware of the Aussie film industry, was crowd funded, exceptionally low budget. However, I don't think this is obviously. I have watched so many ridiculous movies, lacking heart, or character development that had multi- million budgets. This film was crowd funded. So if anything, I think it's important to note this piece of really quite incredible Australian cinema, was the vision of someone who went about to create something and they succeeded. Certainly worth taking the time to enjoy!

Mr Inbetween
(2018)

Sensational!
Scott Ray is a genius! As the writer and protagonist of the show he has created a unique viewing experience! It's a balanced blend of humour, heartfelt moments and plenty of thrills. My only complaint is the half hour show. If your able to stream the entire series this isn't an issue, but I watched a few seasons week to week and half an hour wasn't enough. I look forward to other creations by Ray and hope some serious Hollywood money comes into productions in the future.

Scott Ray performs with a range of talented, and equally versatile Australian actors who add value to each episode, directed by the fabulous Nash Edgerton. A shout out to Chika Yasumura who plays his daughter Brittney. She is an exceptionally skilled young actor.

1000-lb Sisters
(2020)

Fun and interesting trashy tv.
I really love finding out what the sisters are up to and championing them on their journey. I really like the humility of the show. It's just trashy reality. However, there is actual reality to this show, unlike so many others that claim to be. Their struggle with weight and their relationship are compelling to me!

I wish the girls the very best!

Mrs. America
(2020)

Incredibly interesting and perfectly performed
Miss America is one of the most interesting show in a while. Not only is it filled with female ideals, but the cast is tremendously filled with some of the most acclaimed actors of this time. As someone who grew up in and has remained left wing or "liberal" in the USA terminology, it is great to hear differing sides of this debate. Ultimately, this debate is complex and as usual politically women are shoved into one ideal or another in the fight just to be heard. Binge worthy!!!

Kingdom
(2014)

Binged Twice Back to Back!
Kingdom is exceptional television! I was aware MMA existed and even knew people who knew people who trained in it! That was about it. My fella chose it, I usually don't mind his choices, rarely do I love them. Kingdom was like a soul mate. Sensationally written with refreshing narrative structures, Kingdom is realistic, gritty, raw, heartfelt and tender with exceptional actors. Really glad it hit Netflix in Australia, because everyone deserves to see this show! Up there on my top telly shows alongside The Wire and Breaking Bad!
