Pat
(2016)

Gentle depiction of rural life in small village in Ireland
As a retired postman, Pat has a busy life, especially when it comes to his routine. He still does his daily rounds and most people in the village let him get on with it. However, one man, Mangon, wants to put a stop to the pretence.

Set in a small village in the west of Ireland, the scenery is beautiful and this short film has some great acting from Jon Kenny, with support from Jack Walsh, and RTÉs John Creedon. I am not surprised it won various awards at film festivals in Ireland.

It's an interesting role for Jon Kenny. Jon was once teamed up with Pat Shortt as a comedy duo called the D'Unbelievables. Pat Shortt has gone on to do similar rural roles to this in films such as Garage and The Guard. It looks like Jon is trying a similar route. In any case, the quality of Jon's acting shows that he would be a great asset to any Director or film.

The Drive
(2017)

Simple short film, well acted
As short films go, this is up there as one of the briefest at only six and a half minutes long. However, it is filmed well, with good images and great acting.

The film is about two strangers who, as it turns out, are both looking for an escape, and, by chance, meet on the streets of Dublin late at night. They end up by the sea at Howth, just north of Dublin.

Compared to other short films I have seen, this is subtle and beautifully acted, with a touch of honesty and realism. It could almost be the start of a much bigger film, as the viewer is left wondering about each of the characters, how they got there, and where they will end up next. Good, simple entertainment.
