The Night Agent
(2023)

Extremely dumb
Wow, this is the new "hit"? If so, it makes me really sad. The story is extremely dumb and implausible and makes you laugh, the dialogue is stilted and cringy, the acting is mediocre, and that is putting it charitably. The leads have no charisma to speak of, especially the man who is supposed to be an FBI agent. I am amazed that this got made at all, and I really cannot believe that people are willing to watch it, and not only that, they are apparently enjoying it. Well, to each their own, but if this is supposed to be the new standard, I am truly dismayed. We are surely capable of producing infinitely better television than this sub-par nonsense.

The Boys: The Instant White-Hot Wild
(2022)
Episode 8, Season 3

Excellent finale
I dont understand the critics. This season was fantastic and the finale was awesome. Plenty of plot and character development, great action, lots of emotional moments. The show continues to be outstanding.

The Orville: A Tale of Two Topas
(2022)
Episode 5, Season 3

Simply outstanding
Simply outstanding. This is how you tell a nuanced story about a complicated and sensitive subject. Presenting opposing views, not constantly bashing the audience over the head with "the message". The resolution is a little too convenient, but that is a small flaw in an otherwise perfect episode.

Watch and learn, new Star Trek shows.

Nightmare Alley
(2021)

Disappointing
For Guillermo del Toro, really disappointing. There is a great idea in the second half, but it could have been executed much better. The bigger problem, though, is that the movie consists of two wildly disparate halves and if the first one wasn't there, it would be a much better movie. It is baffling that anyone thought this was a good screenplay.

The Green Knight
(2021)

Incredible
Incredible. Fantastic. Visually stunning, psychedelic, deep. Music is beyond belief. It is a crime that we have degenerated so much that a movie as brilliant as this is largely overlooked.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings
(2021)

Embarrassing
Marvel is losing it and it is becoming embarrassing and ugly. Black Widow was pretty bad, this is downright awful. The script was beyond idiotic (want your kids to come home? Send assassins to kill them), the pacing was all over the place and Katy has to be the worst combination of annoying character and annoying actress since Rose Tico. Seriously, cut your losses and run.

Kalifat
(2020)

Absolutely incredible
Absolutely incredible. In all respects. Puts American TV shows to shame.

Archive
(2020)

Very interesting but falls apart
A "slow burn" sci-fi that explores many interesting themes. Unfortunately, the twist ending feels very cheap, doesnt make any sense and more or less renders the whole plot irrelevant.

Black Widow
(2021)

Boring, uninspired
I dont expect much from Marvel movies, I just want to be entertained. I am OK with plots that start to unravel if you think about them a little bit and with stories that are easily predictable. But this one is just boring and uninspired and feels like all of it has been done before. By the way, I dont understand the praise for Pugh. All the actors were fine, no problems there, but she didnt stand out. And she doesnt really have a superhero physique.

Loki: Journey Into Mystery
(2021)
Episode 5, Season 1

Excellent episode
Awesome episode, but who cast the boy? He was beyond awful. Why not go with someone like Asa Butterfield? Surely there is more than a few capable young actors.

Friends: The Reunion
(2021)

Better than expected
Honestly, it was pretty good. A healthy dose of nostalgia with a few surprises. Yes, James Corden was a weird choice, and the decision to include David Beckham, Jon Snow and four random people from Ghana was even weirder, but they did not spoil the overall experience.

Oblivion
(2013)

The sheer amount of stupidity is staggering
A quintessentially American movie. Looks stunning, but has absolutely no brains whatsoever. I mean, the sheer amount of stupidity is staggering. The characters, the plot, technical stuff - literally nothing here makes sense.

A.I. Artificial Intelligence
(2001)

Beyond awful
A. I. starts out very promising and the first 30 or 40 minutes are excellent. But instead of dealing with moral quandaries (which is what the movie clearly promises), it morphs into a sci-fi road movie that gets worse and worse and is completely devoid of logic. Somewhere around 90 minutes, the film straight up abandons any reasonable cohesion and just throws random things at you.

Gifted
(2017)

Amazing movie
Absolutely amazing movie, much better than your usual "genius" fare. Funny, sweet, dramatic, sad, and it really makes you think. Everyone is great here, McKenna Grace really shines. Go watch it!

Mrs. Doubtfire
(1993)

Absolutely fantastic!
Very moving, incredibly funny, Williams as both a comedic force and a great serious actor. Literally all the other actors are fantastic, too. How can you not love this movie?

Lovecraft Country
(2020)

Definitely not worth your time
Some episodes are quite good, but overall, the series is very confused and extremely uneven. A shame.

Saturday Night Live: Maya Rudolph/Jack Harlow
(2021)
Episode 15, Season 46

Painfully unfunny, again
SNL is beyond embarrassing this year. Sketches are cringy, acting is incredibly weak. I keep hoping that they can pull themselves up again, but it does not look good.

Hannibal
(2001)

Meandering and vulgar
Narratively meandering and unfocused, extremely vulgar. Hannibal, a lover of fine things, is reduced to a common killer, although a very efficient one. But where The Silence of the Lambs relied on subtlety, this is just gore, gore, and some more gore.

WandaVision
(2021)

Not worth your time
Completely unnecessary first three episodes that really sour the whole experience. And then? A good material that would have been a great study in sorrow and could have worked great as a short movie; but it is Marvel, so instead, they made it into this meandering, overblown mess that ultimately destroys its own message with idiotic final act. Because if there were just honest emotions instead of pointless CGI fights, the audience wouldnt enjoy it, I guess. Shallow, mediocre. A missed opportunity.

The Undoing
(2020)

Mediocre
Moments of greatness marred by very mediocre script.

Saturday Night Live: Regina King/Nathaniel Rateliff
(2021)
Episode 12, Season 46

Just end this
Put them out of their misery. There cannot possibly be anyone who looks at this and is proud of the work they are doing.

Saturday Night Live: Dan Levy/Phoebe Bridgers
(2021)
Episode 11, Season 46

Awful
Somewhere between sad and cringy. I laughed exactly twice.

Mad Max: Fury Road
(2015)

Accurate
I have lived in Australia for a year and I can confirm that this documentary is quite accurate.

Saturday Night Live: John Krasinski/Machine Gun Kelly
(2021)
Episode 10, Season 46

This is getting sad
As much as I hate agreeing with Trump, it just might be time to retire this show. SNL is really, really bad this year and the new cast members are incredibly weak.

Outlaw King
(2018)

Absolutely fantastic
I do not understand the low rating. This movie is excellent in every regard. An absolutely fantastic watch!
