The Movies That Made Us
(2019)

Horrible editing and audio
This series was an excellent idea but so poorly excecuted that it's almost unbearable.

It's edited as if the viewer suffers from a severely short attention span.

The bleeping of "curse" words paired with cheap sound effects and jokey (overbearing ) editing gives nothing but a cheap impression.

Not to mention the incredibly loud, generic "background" music, which is exaggerated not only in volume but also in the way they try to force emotion on you.

I'm young, have great speakers but can't stand listening to all the noise!

I love nearly all movies featured, and I just want to slap the ones who ruined an excellent idea with such a cheap execution. Shame on you.

Gaga: Five Foot Two
(2017)

Unappealing personality
According to what I saw it's painfully obvious that Lady Gaga is her own biggest fan, and it's all pretty depressing.

I expected a warm person with a sense of humour, but I saw someone who fell into the "OMG I'm a such a hot superstar"-trap, who thinks the world revolves around her. What a disappointing revelation.

I'll still listen to her music but I couldn't possibly admire her as a person after seeing this.

Everest
(2015)

Cautionary true tale
Well made and well acted. To those who complain about the story - it's a true story so who are you complainaing to? God? Fate? The actual truth?

Come on. The filmmakers did a good job, and if anything it sends the message to not attempt this climb unless you're truly fit and mentally prepared for it. I'm happily never setting my feet on Everest but enjoyed the realistic views from the comfort of my sofa.

Friends: The Reunion
(2021)

Mixed feels
Loved seeing the cast together, and everything with them - old and new.

A big BUT though - Why did they have to ruin it with pointless cameos?

Ben, Emma and Mike were not even mentioned but they throw in Beckham, Gaga and Bieber?!

A show like Friends doesn't need to brag about how big it is. Those parts from random people around the world is cringeworthy.

Great feedback for those involved but for us viewers - who cares? I couldn't care less what some singer/actor/footballer thinks about Friends either.

When fans of the show come up with better ideas than the makers of this special did it says something - it's not that great.

My rating is high as I like the cast and really appreciate that they agreed to this. But overall, it gives a rather cheap impression for the reasons I've mentioned.

The L Word: Generation Q
(2019)

S1 review only- Drop the new characters
I loved the original series, it had momentum, except for the Jenny-drama, and you could sense the chemistry between the actors.

Here, I found myself only caring about the original cast.

The new characters brought nothing and frankly the acting wasn't good. Finley - May we never see her again!

Alice's love triangle is pathetic. Both women are painfully BORING, we all know that Alice has a fun personality.

To throw in a bunch of newbies into a well established cast without giving them enough backstory and redeeeming personality traits was a bad move. It just steals time from the core characters, and for no pay off.

I hope for a new season with better acting and writing.

The Queen's Gambit
(2020)

Why so liked?!
Here's a refreshing take on this inexplicably highly rated bore fest: it's overrated and under entertaining. Nothing happens apart from the non-surprising winning streaks. Also, socially awkward girl loses virginity and is underwhelmed... Yawn! Then has better sex (implied) with a guy she likes... double yawn! What's the point?? Nothing goes anywhere, apart from the chess success which is as predictable as daylight at noon. There's even a vaguely implied sensual relationship with another woman. Another loose end going nowhere. The one person I liked was the woman who adopted her and she dies. Good for her, she's off the snooze fest that is her daughter's personality and her ugly haircuts!

Lost in Translation
(2003)

Critics kissed Coppola ass
This movie is boring and forgettable. The acting is good, but it means nothing because there is NO story. The only reason critics claim to like this movie is because of Coppola being a Coppola. Anyone of us watching could have made a better movie and no one would've given a crap because most of us can't leech on our dad being Francis Ford Coppola. Truth!

The Blues Brothers
(1980)

Boring and dumb
There's nothing smart or funny about this movie. I didn't laugh once. It's a string of car chasing scenes mixed with too long scenes of nothingness.

The actual movie audio is horrible. I saw the version on Netflix in 2020. If people love this they could've at least remastered the audio. Not to mention the murky picture quality. Appalling.

P.S. I Love You
(2007)

Boring and superficial
I like Hilary Swank and Kathy Bates, but this time I just couldn't be won over. At no point did I care about any of the characters.

The "Irish" accent from Butler made me want to cut my ears off! I have lived in Ireland, Irish people don't sound like that!

It drags on with attempts at being funny, but it just never hits home for me. What on Earth makes people cry to this movie?? There's not a real emotion anywhere. It's far too long, feels overtly superficial for such a heavy subject and fails even at the light hearted stuff. Like watching a stage play with low grade actors.

Again, I usually admire Swank and Bates but I won't recommend this to anyone.

Mona Lisa Smile
(2003)

Dull and predictable
As a female, I am of course already aware of the injustice and oppression that my gender has suffered throughout history. This movie adds nothing of substance. I appreciate some good acting, but the story is predictable and dull. Not Julia Robert's finest work, and her character is quite frankly boring. This movie could've been somewhat saved if more focus laid on Maggie Gyllenhaals character, which was the only interesting role.

La casa de papel
(2017)

Yuck
I dislike every single character. None are cut out to complete their mission. They all have weak minds and the whole thing is so unrealistic it's laughable. If they had made this to be set in an alternate reality where people are stupid and the government has no power MAYBE I could stand it.

American Murder: The Family Next Door
(2020)

Cautionary true tale
As many says - it's hard to rate this. It's a true story, and a horrible one at that. It's a cautionary tale - Don't ever think that you truly know someone. No matter how close you are. I like the aspect of being able to observe the criminal's behaviour. From faking innocence until the confession. He couldn't even fake tears in the beginning, only cried once caught as a liar. I was surprised at the inclusion of some very personal text messages, the ones between Shanann and her friend. I guess they wanted to show as much as possible that she was a normal person - which I was already convinced of. I feel like something is lacking within the story... A sign that he truly was sorry. I don't buy his crying, most likely he's sorry because he got caught. May he rot in prison. I hope Shanann and the children have peace.

Cobra Kai
(2018)

Funny, moving and nostalgic!
I'm late to the party and haven't finished the first season yet, but I LOVE it so far! The clips from the KK movie are done in a tasteful and purposeful way for the storyline. That it's Ralph and William starring in the show is amazing when you think about it. The other characters are great too, with substance and relatable story lines. I for one am happy that I survived school (being a teenager is hard work!) Cobra Kai is funny, moving and nostalgic. Anyone rooting for underdogs will love this, and obviosuly anyone who loves the KK movie (the REAL one) will love this. Can't wait to finish it and probably add another star to my rating!

The Last Dance
(2020)

Entertaining! Why the timeline jumps?
I know nothing about basketball, but I grew up knowing about Michael Jordan. So I looked forward to knowing more. I was not disappointed! This is a fast- paced, highly entertaining documentary. I'm not giving it a full score because if two things. 1. The timeline keeps jumping back and forth and I have yet to figure out why. You have the whole story, so why not tell it in chronological order? 2. The story is in part told by Jordan himself, which is great but it probably means that his worst critics were not welcome to contribute. That's to be expected, but something a little more edgy than his team mates saying Jordan was a bully and occasionally "talking trash" could've been interesting. I was really entertained though and finally got to know a little more about basketball and especially Chicago Bulls.

Dead to Me
(2019)

Never a dull moment!
I love the dry, witty humour blended with the believable portrayal of grief and "real" tough emotions. There's never a dull moment as the story moves forward with twists and turns. A great plus that it's NOT predictable and boring (at least it wasn't for me). Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini deliver superbly, and so does the rest of the cast. Season 2 made me even more hooked. Absolutely loved it!
