The Sopranos: Pine Barrens
(2001)
Episode 11, Season 3

One of the best of 2001
Just excellent, from Gloria's meltdown to Paulie suggesting that they suck Relish & Ketchup simultaneously from packets in the Nathan's bag inside the deserted truck. This was the first time Paulie is checking out Christopher's appendage as Christopher takes a reliever outside of Paulie's Window in the deserted truck...the next time it is in a later episode to see if Christopher is wearing a wire and Paulie is not so kind in his observations of same.

In the Pine Barrens? Not hardly, I grew up there, the other place I lived was Orange County NY, where the filming actually took place. Really wish that they had filmed it in the Pine Barrens with those Jersey Devils running amok..Tony could have brought them a Philly Cheese Steak..LOL.

Now I'm trying to remember whether or not that strong as an Ox Russian survived that encounter in the Woods....

The Lake House
(2006)

Fair warning
to fans of Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock. This was certainly a disappointing film. All the Actors seemed lost, all the characters seemed lost, the concept seemed lost.

The Mailbox was really bad Sci-Fi, totally Lame.

There was nothing endearing about this film or the lackluster characters, I watched it until the end but regret doing so. Just Sayin', fair warning for fans of Bullock & Reeves and Alternate Dimension Sci-Fi. This attempt at combining "You've Got Mail" with the "X-Files" just doesn't work here. The Dog had more character development than most of the Ensemble. The Ensemble seemed really thrown together as an after thought.

Crash
(1996)

Should come with a Warning Label
My cable provider incorrectly listed this as Crash 2004, so after about about a half an hour into this movie, it hit me that this was not the award winning "Crash". Its a rarity that I ever cut off a movie mid-way but I did it with this one. This movie should really come with a warning label, if you've ever been in a nasty auto accident, witnessed one first hand or dealt with the survivor of one you may find this flick severely disturbing. I can appreciate that there is a sexual fetish out there for just about everything and remain open-minded to discovery on this. But, this sexual fetish I find hard to believe, and I'm not the type of person who is turned off by scars or amputees. The art-noir attempt came off as tedious and boring, not the least bit fascinating. The lack of substance/explanation/identification with any of the characters is in part a problem. It was hard enough to get through the subject premise without also not having any connection with these characters. There is not too much blood & guts horror, that was not the negative issue here, its just disturbing on a different level. I suppose you could actually create a movie about the subject of sexual fetish related to deadly car accidents and pull it off, but I did not find that to be the case here. Fact is that car accidents don't give me a hard-on and if they do you. you've either never been involved in one or you should seriously check out psychological counseling.

Blade Runner
(1982)

Mesmerizing Effect
Not only is this my top sci-fi film it is among my top 5 favorite films. The story line, music (Vangelis), cinematography and acting are top-notch and blend perfectly. Harrison Ford is at his best. Sean Young is a perfect pair-up compared to Harrison's usual supporting actresses. This is also one of Rutger Hauer's best performances. Casting is perfect from Joanna Cassidy to Darryl Hannah to Edward James Olmos, great performances. A+ on screenplay and direction and for taking a short story that I always loved and making it work beyond my imagination. The dark, gritty texture of the perceived futuristic L.A. is believable, even 25 years after the film's making. The film is truly mesmerizing. Do androids dream of electric sheep? You bet they do.

Armageddon
(1998)

A disappointment
I managed to miss this '98 film but finally got a chance to check it out. Sci-Fi action, Bruce Willis, Liv Tyler, BBThornton, giant asteroid crashing into earth, how could it not be good?? It was a huge disappointment, especially given that I love Bruckheimer's Law & Order series. Hokey, corny, disjointed, contrived, gratuitous, are some of the reactions I had to this film. The story line and the over the board stereo-typical character personalities border on the absurd. I have only ever cut off a film a few times in my life, after 2/3rds of the way through this one, I went to bed. It was too painful to watch this unfold. The special effects were fairly good, that is why I hung in there. Although seeing the (SPOILER HERE): World Trade Center and my favorite the Chrysler Building destroyed gave me more angst than I imagined.

Law & Order: Criminal Intent
(2005)

D'Onofrio
Its all about D'Onofrio. He is so freaking great in this series. Just perfect casting. Was always a fan of him but now I go out of the way to catch this series. He's got to be ad-libbing a lot of this and must have a very patient Director. HBO needs to do something with this guy! Be sure to see Salton Sea and Men In Black (Hilarious). I was actually surprised to see him on a basic cable TV series. However after seeing the other Criminal Intent shows, my confidence in non-HBO programming increased. D'Onofrio is just an incredible actor, even if the script is hokey (Claire Bloom episode). Also, he may not be a pretty boy, like Chris Noth, but there is something attractive about him.
