Aavesham
(2024)

Rangan Hero aada Hero...
Ever seen a movie which has no story but pumps adrenaline through your veins? Well this is it. The director Jithu Madhavan has just unleashed the beast Fahad Fazil in this movie. It might well be one of Fafa's top 5 performances in my opinion.

An action movie enthusiast can walk out of the theatre with complete satisfaction after the 150 minutes of Aavesham. Loved the newbie actor Sajin Gopu btw. His energy and comedic timing is another highlight of the film. By the end I felt like the movie should have been a bit longer considering how untedious it was.

I felt this movie was a better version of Ajagajantharam or Chaaver. Book the tickets without second thoughts if you want to experience 150 minutes brimming with action and laughter.

Anweshippin Kandethum
(2024)

Monotonous but very well crafted
A very finely made Neo-noir Mystery/Thriller movie. It is definitely the cup of tea for investigation thriller geeks. But I wouldn't recommend this to action movie fans because it's can a little slow paced at certain points. But as a passionate enthusiast of Mystery/Thriller/Crime films, I did not feel any sort of boredom.

Tovino really impressed as Sub Inspector Anand Narayanan. The purpose of presenting a young and straightforward police officer as protagonist was executed flawlessly. But the plot seemed a little random. For instance, during investigation, Tovino and his crew keeps grinding and finds evidence leading to the culprit but, it fails to flabbergast the audience inspite of the twist in the end(Joju George's Iratta would tell a different story). But it definitely kept me on the hook. A crime thriller enthusiast who likes to pay attention to details would never say this movie is boring.

If you want to see a well made and nuanced investigation thriller, this is a great choice. I would have gave it 10/10 if it gave me that adrenaline rush which Neru or Kannur Squad did. But due to the way this movie is made, it definitely deserves 8+.

Manjummel Boys
(2024)

Simply Exhilarating!
I have never been a fan of Survival thrillers. I just went for this movie for the sake of spending some time with a friend of mine and this movie was a great choice to kill the time. The fact that this has been made from a real-life story is even more amazing.

Each and every actor in the show did not fail to impress. The excitement a group of youngsters while on a trip and their recklessness which leads to trouble is portrayed really well. While watching, the movie gives us signs which portend the upcoming chaos (the creepy font style of "manjummel boys" painted on the rock) which shows the quality of making. I realised Balu Varghese is a really underrated acting talent and Soubin's ability to undertake bigger roles.

In a nutshell, this is a great Neo-noir survival thriller which keeps you on edge throughout the whole 135 minutes.

Neru
(2023)

Lalettan is back on track with a great courtroom drama which keeps you on the edge!
One of the best things about movies are them keeping up to the hype. I will staunchly say that Jeethu Joseph impresses again! This courtroom thriller will not at any point seem laggy or tedious and fills you with adrenaline rush and intrigue.

Everything seemed spot-on including the casting, story and execution. I would say Anaswara Rajan and Siddique impressed the most by perfectly playing their respective roles. I will say again the film was not monotonous or bland in any angle. I experienced one of the fastest 150 minutes I've ever came through.

Although I would say I was expecting that turn of event thing usually seen in Jeethu Joseph movies during the climax. The way it ended seemed mildly cliche to me. But that does not change the fact that Neru still remains one of the best best thriller movies in 2023.

Kuttavum Shikshayum
(2022)

Pragmatic and logical thriller
Kuttavum Shikshayum adequately displays the challenges which confronts a cop in their daily life. Asif Ali appears as CI Sajan Philip who is appointed to lead a task force for a manhunt operation of a gang who are wanted for jewel heist. The rest of the movie revolve around their hunt for the accused.

People who enjoy the realistic side of Cinemas can definitely enjoy this movie. The whole movie paces in that manner by displaying the hardships and the procedures of Kerala police. Those who expect an action-packed manhunt movie like Theeran will be disappointed as I did. But it does paint an image of what actual cop life is.

Kannur Squad
(2023)

Great mixture of thrill and intrigue
Thrill and intrigue two major elements present in my taste of movies. Since Kannur squad didn't lack those, I enjoyed it to the fullest. The duration of the movie which is 2 hours and 40 minutes seemed to be over in small span of time and that is strange because most of the movies are not that long. But this trait of the movie is what signifies how engaging and untedious it is.

Mammootty and his crew consists of 4 who usually work independently and are known for their prowess to untangle mysteries and performing encounters. I expected the movie to be more complex like a typical investigation film but the immediate shift to manhunt mode also seemed worth the watch. Ikka still has that vigorousness and skill in pulling off a cop role which is admirable at such an age. The casting was pretty much adequate with appropriately skilled actors who are fit for the respective roles.

If you are interested in something which is a mixture of detective and hard-boiled fiction along with some action book the tickets without second thoughts. This movie does not have that masala trait where Mammootty has fiery dialogues and sasses higher officials like his characters such as Inspector Balram or Ramanathan IPS does so please do not expect that. But the absence of masala element is what makes this film way better.

Voice of Sathyanathan
(2023)

Nothing extraordinary but deserves better verdicts
Voice of Sathyanathan is devoid of that certain element of blunder which brimmed in most of the recent Dileep movies. And when considering his recent long absence in Malayalam Cinema, Voice of Sathyanathan seems like a good resemblance of his portending success.

Several Dileep movies are known for the cringe and bland exhibition of comedy. That is not seen reoccurred here. After quite an amount of time I was able to watch and laugh instinctively at a Dileepettan movie and that has not happened since King Liar. So, It really felt satisfactory. Not to mention the other actors such as Siddique Ikka who was hilarious with his display of physical comedy. The touch of Jagapathy Babu starring as an ethical character proved to be a unique and good attempt. Overall, I would say this movie will not disappoint a family audience as most of the Dileep movies have never done before.

Better Call Saul: Point and Shoot
(2022)
Episode 8, Season 6

Been dumbstruck for some time
I guess the "storm has begun". The 49 minutes I went through while watching this is literally the fastest 49 minutes I've ever spent. Man! The tension, anxiety and adrenaline rush I felt is just beyond explanation.

It's been some time since my heart has pounded like this. Well, I couldn't help it with the actors and story writers doing their job in the finest way. Also, thanks for presenting the most terrifying villian I've ever seen in the show.

Kudos to PG and VG for keeping your promise about S6 the perfect way. I don't know what's coming next but it sure isn't gonna be displeasing. I have that confidence because, the way you brought the story so far is perfect. So it's common sense that you are probably not gonna mess up the final episodes.

Porinju Mariam Jose
(2019)

Did meet expectations but, disappointed in some aspects at the same time
Porinju Mariam Jose is one of the finest Action-drama entertainers I've ever watched. The screen presence of Joju is just lit 👌🏻 But the thing is, that is the only plus point of the movie. The story arc doesn't have any unique traits and there seemed like too many unnecessary emotional scenes. The climax didn't seem bogus but wasn't satisfactory either. To be frank, I didn't feel that Joshy touch. Although I think it deserves 7 because Joju George is probably the finest actors of this generation.

Better Call Saul: Black and Blue
(2022)
Episode 5, Season 6

Keep calm and wait for carnage
"Black and Blue" did get the job done. I wouldn't say it was exhilarating as Ep 01-03 or even 04 but, it doesn't seem bogus. That particular uniqueness BCS crew gave season 6 hasn't gone anywhere. We have just have to wait till things take an electrifying turn. Good to see Howard choosing the path of relentless instead of vulnerable. Always been a fan of Wexler-McGill couple but Howard being a wimp only makes their story arc pathetic. What the viewers wish to see is a solid battle. Lalo Salamanca appearing at last was an icing on the cake. So was Mrs. Ziegler's appearance. The only reason I'm giving this a 9 instead of the usual 10 is that smidge of tediousness which I didn't see in the preceded four. I would never say it lack the quality of the rest. Anyway, eagerly waiting for further amazements.

Better Call Saul: Hit and Run
(2022)
Episode 4, Season 6

Quality persists
Just as expected, S6 E4 keeps me on the hook exactly like the succeeded 3. I'm disappointed to wait another week for the next one to air actually. "Hit and run" is just a little less action-packed unlike the the first three episodes. Besides that, the plot is top-notch. But less action doesn't mean it's tedious. It has got some intense scenes. Suprised to see the duration only being 44 minutes. Anyway, there is nothing in the episode which seemed to disappoint me. So I'm just gonna rate it 10 since the BCS crew kept their word about Season 6 being a big one. So far, so good.

Better Call Saul: Wine and Roses
(2022)
Episode 1, Season 6

One word: Top-notch
It's always delightful when a premiere crew gives their work so much hype and audience gets justice. This very episode has me thinking that this 6th season will be something bamboozling. The duration is 59 minutes and I didn't even feel a little tedious the whole time. The story arc and dialogues were way better than I expected. Props to the all the actors especially Tony Dalton for keeping us on the hook playing the ferocious and charismatic LALO SALAMANCA. I bet this season is gonna be much scary and intense than the other 5. Beware Breaking Bad, because I think your prequel show is going to eat your ratings for lunch 😈.
