The Midwich Cuckoos
(2022)

Feels like copied homework
This series gives off a disjointed feeling as if someone heard a really great story and then tried to retell it from memory but messed up on the delivery.

The premise and world building is amazing. One can see that the original version of whatever this was based on must have been very thought out. However, the execution and dialogue is bad at times, and people don't act in logical ways.

They even get UK laws wrong and the police and military procedures seem to be using '80s Hollywood-movie police standards, which really takes you out of the story.

Made in Mexico
(2018)

Hilarious
Okay, if you want to see the day-to-day life of an average Mexican, watch a documentary. This isn't it. This is hilarious. They're rich people who signed up and did an actual reality show.

Old Henry
(2021)

Really Good
I was pleasantly surprised by this. At no point was I bored. All the acting was very good and the dialog was on point. I never heard about this movie before and it is weird that it wasn't promoted more.

Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency
(2016)

Amazeballs
Even if I told you what happened, I couldn't spoil the show. The first episode is kind of reminiscent of '80s Doctor Who logic, so you have to just go with and then the story falls in place. You might feel some second hand embarrassment if someone walks in while you're watching a scene with the Rowdy 3 because they seem strangely written until that too falls into place. I really hope there is a season 3, but I like where season 2 left off as well.

I didn't read the books, so I can't say how closely it follows them.

Élite
(2018)

Very Good
Kind of has the pacing of a Korean drama, but with 10x more drama.

The Witcher
(2019)

Not good
I'm puzzled by all these "Wow" reviews because I felt like we watched a different show. It was not good. Some of the fight scenes were okay, but not great. It was confusing at times and that's coming from someone who knows the source material. It's easy to blame the writers, so I won't because I don't know how much a script changes as it gets passed around... but at the same time, this show is so bad that I do ponder about the production process, whereas other shows I don't think about where they went wrong, character arches (or lack thereof) or if that's the best the casting agents could do etc. If you can't afford to do the Witcher right, you should have saved money and made it as an anime series.
