Hamlet
(1996)

I loved it
I loved this film version hamlet because Kenneth portrays this Shakespearean tragedy surrounded by beauty; the sets, the film's score(Patrick Doyle), the performances were impeccable, especially Kenneth's. I also think that it was very intelligent of Kenneth to have cameos of American actors in the film, which was refreshing and entertaining. There's so much to say about this visual masterpiece, Robin Williams, Jack Lemmon, Billy Crystal, Charlton Heston. It has such a huge cast, and i can understand why all these actors wanted to be part of this film, come to think of it, i don't blame them, lol. This is my favorite hamlet adaptation, the director sees the tragedy in a beautiful way, and not all darkness and chaos. Kate Winslet was great, too. One of her first 5 films. I highly recommend this film, it is a jewel of cinema,

Hamlet
(2000)

Strange interpretation of Hamlet
I didn't like this movie for many reasons, there really wasn't any excitement in the film, Ethan Hawke's character seemed as if he were on Valium, hamlet's character was enraged, Ethan hawke wasn't. Although Ethan Hawke is my favorite actor and his presence on screen is mystical, but i didn't like this film. I preferred previous hamlet versions, i.e., Kenneth Branagh's hamlet and Laurence Olivier's. I've noticed that Diane venora likes to play Shakespearean characters, well, she graduated from the Juilliard school. I would have loved to seen Ethan hawke play a more enraged hamlet, which would have made the film more exciting to watch, and the other characters too. Well, it was a strange interpretation by Michael Almereyda. I wouldn't recommend this film.
