Given the subject matter I find it remarkable that this movie fails so epically at recreating the moods, atmosphere and culture of the times. Perhaps it's the over abundance of anecdotes, references and stories that make it fall flat; in trying too hard to embrace the rich history of an epic era, it ends up empty handed and lacking focus.
