Bromance-A-Roni
(2022)

Funny slice-of-life comedy in my fave city!
Bromance-a-roni drew me in from the start -- it's interesting, the characters are all energetic and I love anything set anywhere in New York City. It starts off as a series of random conversations and moments that culminate into one family and their friends having a series of misunderstandings while no one is actually dealing with anything they should be! Definitely relatable!

While the whole cast is very talented, I found Tristan G. Henson-Smith to be especially amazing, with a very naturalistic style of acting you don't see in a lot of child actors. I have no doubt he is going to become a major star.

King Lahiri
(2022)

A charming story about a family and their community in NYC
Set in Jackson Heights, Queens, King Lahiri shows 3 days in the lives of the Lahiri family (widower Mr Lahiri and his 3 grown children) and all their many friends and neighbors as they run their convenience mart.

Mr Lahiri wants his children to care about the store the way he and his late wife always did, but they all have different ideas of what that means to them.

A great tale about the paradigm shifting for all involved with this crucial decision and how they move forward from it.

Side note: Danish Farooqui (Danish) went on to star in Broadway's The Kite Runner as did Uma Paranjpe (Salima) as the first female Pi in Broadway's Life of Pi.

Go Back to China
(2019)

An interesting insightful look of the complicated relationships between a patriarch and his daughters
BRAVO to Emily Ting for writing a movie about a complicated relationship that few movies have examined.

We have all heard about Asian Tiger parents, and this movie actually delves into that, and the expectations that are placed on children according to birth order. Eldest daughters are often given the strictest standards, finances can be used to control -- all of it is true.

Is it EVERY truth about an Asian family? No. But it is a truth and Emily Ting deserves kudos for putting it out there.

(BTW - I am South Asian and there are many similarities that were shown. My sister and I loved it. It spoke to us.)

The Sweetest Thing
(2002)

I made the mistake of watching this in 2021
It just didn't age well. The snow white cast makes xenophobic comments like when Mr Mooney can't find an employee "It's like Indonesia in here!" Whatever. So bad, even the comic genius Christina Applegate isn't enough to save it.

Exposure
(2021)

Loved it!
First, my friend Krys Fox was on it and he is fantastic! As were all the others. It was nice to see a reality show with truly healthy competition. Everyone on it were actual friends, not backstabbing or bringing drama every other minute. And the photos were beautiful!
