A second season of ABC’s Superwog, the brainchild of brothers Theodore and Nathan Saidden, will begin shooting this week in Melbourne.
Produced by Superwog and Princess Pictures, the second instalment will dive further into Superwog’s volatile family as he and his dad chase their passions, test their friendships, fight relatives and butt heads with authorities.
The Saidden brothers have written and will star in all episodes, with Theodore to direct. They co-produce with Mike Cowap and Antje Kulpe. Executive producers are Emma Fitzsimons, Elia Eliades and Katherine Dale, with Todd Abbott and Andrew Gregory for the ABC.
Superwog‘s beginnings are viral YouTube skits. Google/Screen Australia then supported a TV pilot via their Skip Ahead initiative, which then led to the ABC ordering the first season.
“We couldn’t be prouder of Theo and Nathan,” Cowap said.

Nick Boshier.
Nick Boshier and co-creators Anthony MacFarlane and Jarod Green are developing a long-form series of their animated comedy Beached Az.
That will be a sequel to Beached Aziversary, which Robot Army produced last year for Facebook, YouTube and Instagram, marking the 10th anniversary since Beached Az premiered on the ABC.
The 10 x 3′ online series followed the bizarre adventures of a philosophical, Kiwi-accented whale and his cocaine-addicted, murderous seagull friend. The unlikely couple had a steamy love affair which spawned a love child.
As part of the re-boot, the team launched a beer range, Beached Az Brew, in partnership with Sydney-based brewery Modus Operandi. A significant percentage of profits goes to charities which clean up beaches around Australia.
As lead writer Boshier is crafting the treatment and pilot for the Beached Az TV series with David Webster’s Cheeky Little Media and Ian Collie’s Easy Tiger.

‘Yolo: Crystal Fantasy’.
Adult Swim’s next animated series will be set in a perhaps unexpected location – Wollongong. The WarnerMedia-owned network has commissioned eight episodes of Yolo: Crystal Fantasy from Australian creator Michael Cusack, the first series order it has made outside the Us.
Produced by Princess Pictures, the 8 x 15 minute series will follow two Australian party girls looking for “fun times, new experiences, positive vibes, and hopeful horoscopes. Sarah’s quest is to find love, whereas Rachel hungers for chaos, often bringing them into conflict as they encounter surreal Australiana, strange bush creatures, and eccentric nomads.”
The series expands on characters first seen in Cusack’s YouTube hits Yolo and Yolo 2; though he tells If they’re more developed and get into situations you might not expect if you’ve watched the shorts.
“It’s a lot of stream of consciousness writing,” he says.

Daniel Monks.
After making his feature film debut in director Stevie Cruz-Martin’s Pulse, Daniel Monks moved to London in 2018 because he figured the UK offered more career opportunities.
That proved to be a smart decision as the actor made his West End debut this year as the lead in Teenage Dick – and then went straight into rehearsals for a contemporary re-imagining of the classic Chekhov play The Seagull.
In the adaptation by Anya Reiss which premieres at Playhouse Theatre on March 11, he will play Konstantin, an aspiring playwright who is smitten with Nina (Game of Thrones’ Emilia Clarke).
Indira Varma, another GoT alum, will play his mother, the celebrated actress Arkadina, with Tom Rhys Harries as Trigorin, who steals Nina away from Konstantin.
Monks, whose right side has been paralysed since a spinal cord tumour was removed when he was 11, is thrilled to be playing an able-bodied character and alongside such a stellar cast.

The second Digital Ignition Multi-platform Clinic held by Screen Australia will focus on multi-platform extentions to feature films. The clinic will look beyond websites, webisodes and social media to create a ‘multi-platform production bible’.
The announcement:
Screen Australia has announced that its second Digital Ignition Multi-platform Clinic will focus on multi-platform extensions to feature film. Recent high-profile examples include extensions to The Dark Knight, District 9, Prometheus, Salt and Tron: Legacy but these strategies can be equally applicable and advantageous to lower-budget productions.
The five-day intensive workshop in late November 2012 will support up to seven teams to develop a multi-platform strategy for a feature film. From advertising campaigns to online video series, the term ‘transmedia’ gets quite the work out. But what does it actually mean? Cathie McGinn trawls the media landscape for a definitive definition.
Transmedia, all media and multiplatform are terms often used interchangeably when referencing modern storytelling techniques. Yet, depending who you speak to, there are distinct differences between them.
According to industry experts Encore spoke to, the key elements that define transmedia can be summarised as follows: platform, time, audience, adaptation, and creative collaboration.
“Transmedia projects involve the use of more than one medium to tell multiple stories from the same story world,” says Christy Dena, author of the first PhD on transmedia practice. But the main differentiation between transmedia and multiplatform is whether the content is adapted for each platform or simply syndicated. Each storytelling element must be shaped for individual platforms, operating independently but contributing to a richer experience of the whole.
