FilmRise Raises $25 Million for Acquisitions Fund
Fledgling film and TV distributor FilmRise, which is releasing such documentaries as Alex Gibney's Oscar contender "Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief" and Amy Berg's upcoming "Janis: Little Girl Blue" (November 27), has raised $25 million for an acquisition fund, mostly from New York private investor Josh Harlan’s Harlan Capital Partners. The Brooklyn-based distributor FilmRise has been on a recent buying spree, acquiring nine films from Gravitas Ventures for home media distribution, including "Back to the Future" doc "Back in Time" (October 21), David Gelb's "A Faster Horse," and Evel Knievel bio-doc "Being Evel," which will likely be released on DVD and Blu-ray this fall.
