Despite being responsible for multiple mishaps, Homer Simpson has been employed at the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant for well over three decades. The Simpsons Season 36, Episode 4, "Shoddy Heat," explains how the character has managed to hold on to his job for so long.
As it turns out, Homer's dad is to thank for his continued employment. The revelation is made during Episode 4, "Shoddy Heat," which details Abe's time working as a private detective in the 1980s. The story begins when Lisa encourages her Grandpa to reopen the cold case that involved the power plant's owner, Mr. Burns, and eventually caused his partner Billy O'Donnell (Topher Grace) to go missing under very shady circumstances.
