Nearly two decades after Dexter Morgan made his television debut, the character's origins are revealed in Dexter: Original Sin. The new prequel series is set in 1991, fifteen years before the original show, and follows a 20-year-old Dexter, now played by Patrick Gibson, as he commits his first murders and learns to fit in among the less psychopathic denizens of Miami. While the cast is comprised of brand new actors playing familiar roles from the classic series, Michael C. Hall does appear in the pilot, and narrates the series.

Like the original series and Dexter: New Blood before it, Original Sin is stewarded by showrunner Clyde Phillips.
