If you’re a fan of fantasy anime set in ancient times, Yona of the Dawn is definitely a must-watch. Sadly, it’s an often-overlooked shojo anime from 2014 that never got renewed for a second season; nevertheless, it still boasts a dedicated fanbase eager for a Season 2.

Yona of the Dawn takes place in a fictional, historical world filled with magic and ancient dragons. While the story is packed with adventure, at its core, it’s a shojo romance that embraces many of the genre’s classic tropes.

It is a Reverse-harem anime with many bishonen characters and plenty of romantic tension to go around. Princess Yona starts as a typical helpless shojo protagonist, but the series’ beautiful writing and narrative show how she breaks the mold, setting a powerful example for other shojo heroines.
