'The Critic' Reboot: '90s Animated Series Close to Revival Deal
It could be two thumbs up for the short-lived yet beloved animated series The Critic, as apparently the Jon Lovitz favorite is closer than ever to making a return. Premiering in 1994, The Critic starred Lovtiz as New York film critic Jay Sherman – host of the popular series Coming Attractions – who was known for his harsh delivery and searing commentary. The former SNL star has been "trying for years" to get the show rebooted, and now it may have some gas in the tank thanks to creator Al Jean.
Jean got his big break in the business as one of the original writers on The Simpsons before going off to create The Critic along with fellow writer Mark Reiss. Though it only lasted for two seasons, the series is still remembered today for not only Lovitz's wonderful performance, but for the many films it parodied during the course of its run.
