George R.R. Martin After Losing to Harry Potter: J.K. Rowling May Have “Billions of dollars and my Hugo” but She Can Never Have Readers Like Mine

George R.R. Martin could not accept his defeat after Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling won at the 2001 Hugo Awards. Martin, who rose to fame for writing A Song of Ice and Fire series, has spoken about this in the past a couple of times. He could never let go of the fact that Rowling’s book was chosen over his work, but little did he know that this would happen twice with his two other novels.
