The Bridge on the River Kwai (1957)
The Burma-Siam Railway and the bridge at the Mae Klong river – renamed Khwae Yai in the 1960s. The film is highly inaccurate since Colonial Nicholson is fictional and would have been quietly killed by the prisoners for collaborating with the enemy. The real officer was Lieutenant Colonel Philip Toosey of the British Army who encouraged his men to sabotage and delay the building of the bridge. -
