Straight after his hit Halloween, Carpenter made this TV biopic about the King of Rock and Roll. It was checked by his family for accuracies, too, so you can be sure it is a true biopic unlike most of the ones that come out nowadays. Elvis is good film. Carpenter's direction is inviting, allowing the actors and music to take centre stage. But the movie really belongs to Kurt Russell – his performance is an electric replica of Elvis Presley, complete with all the right mannerisms and a voice to boot. It's a portrayal that is massively underrated.

The movie is almost 3 hours long, and it does feel so. A couple of scenes seem pointless, namely those with characters staring blankly at brick walls. And the formula of inserting a song that Russell lip- syncs to every 10 minutes gets repetitive. It's a worthwhile ride however, providing an insight into the mind of one of the greatest musical performers of all time. The only reason Elvis isn't higher on the list is simply because the ones above are better.

Best Scene: I liked it when Elvis and friends chased a jealous dude via cars on the streets, until they break down and become stranded. And what's the first thing he does? Calls his mom. Aww, sweet.
