Review

  • Steven Spielberg's first feature movie.

The premise is extremely simple: A truck driver from hell is following a private car's driver in the middle of nowhere and doing everything he can to make his life miserable.

I'm not sure if it was inspired by any previous movie, but I do think it has inspired movies that came after it, such as THE CAR (1977) and NEVER PLAY WITH STRANGERS (2001).

While there are some good scenes and good tension, the movie is extremely slow and way too repetitive. It could have hold a 15 minutes film, but not 96 minutes. I found myself using the fast-forward button way too many times without losing any scene.

The truck driver is given no reason or motivation to do what he does and the movie ends without getting an answer to that, and that's fine, I guess. IIRC, The Car was supernatural without an actual driver, which may and may not give a better "reason" to this homicidal behavior.
