Review

  • The beginning had me hooked at first. I genuinely thought they were going to hold Lara responsible for being a foreigner raiding cultural artifacts and trespassing in these ancient tombs she has no business really being in. Don't get me wrong, I loved the first two. I was stoked to play this. The intro sequences here implied that, for once, Lara should take a look at her actions and own up to how they affect other people, and that the world doesn't revolve around her.

That doesn't last too long though. The story/character development quickly reverts back to grandiose heroine Lara. I got to about 50% through the game and found that I felt like I'd done very little. I was upgrading weapons that rarely even saw combat. The story felt flat and predictable. The visuals, of course, were stunning, but overall this game just didn't measure up to its predecessors. I got bored halfway through and ended up uninstalling it awhile later when I realized my desire to play it through just wasn't there.
