  • I'm not saying this is War and Peace, but you have to take it in the context and within the genre it was meant.

The overall story is about Vivian who is in a relationship with Steve. Steve is popular and a swimmer and everything a girl should want, except everything might not be perfect with their picture perfect high school relationship. Roy is a tattooed half Italian kid from the trailer park (aka rougher side of town). He is struggling to keep his spot on the swim team and get scholarships to go to college. Roy generally sneaks into the pool at night to practice, which is how he discovers Steve's secret. Steve is having a relationship with their swim coach, Dylan. Vivian catches her mom having an affair, only to discover that her parents have actually been separated for six months and just lying to her so they won't mess up her chance to do well on her exams and get in to college. Freaked out by this news and Steve's absence, Vivian blows off her exam. Then she parties hard at her friend's house. Then feeling a little chagrined, and wanting to get out of her house, she decides to surprise Steve in Rome where the team has gone for a swim meet. There while waiting for Steve to show up, Vivian and Roy go out to share a fun day sightseeing in Rome that leads to a kiss. When she finally finds Steve he's in bed with Dylan. Vivian runs out of the hotel and ends up getting hit by a car putting her initially in a coma and then leaving her with short term memory loss. Will she remember Steve's betrayal or her romantic day with Roy?

This was a fun and colorful teen romance, filled with the usual brooding scenes and lots of angst. What sets it apart is the gorgeous Rome setting, some of the great clothes (loved Vivian's deep blue dress and pale blue scarf she wears in Rome), and the two gorgeous leads...Bella Thorne and Benjamin Mascolo. These two are like fire together. Sexy with tons of great photographable images, this teen romance does what it promises...it satisfies the young and romantic at heart.
