  • The man shown in the photos labeled "Mark Miller" in "Bright Promise" is/was Mark Lincoln Miller, an openly gay actor who was a friend of George Nader and Rock Hudson. He never married and had no children, as one might expect.

The Mark Miller who actually appeared in "Bright Promise" was a TV actor and producer and also the father of actress Penelope Ann Miller and her siblings and the husband of their mother, of course. This is the man who resembled Dan Rather, except for Mark's having blue eyes. He later did TV commercials, some of which were for a headache medication (Excedrin?) from the late 1970s to perhaps the 1990s. Please contact Penelope Ann Miller to verify this.

There is/was an actor named Mark Jeffrey Miller who was connected with the "Cold Mountain" film, but he is a completely different individual.
  • I loved this show, and I vividly remember the story line about the student Sandy Jones who had an affair with the professor portrayed by Dabney Coleman. Sandy's father, Professor Jones, was not portrayed by the same Mark Miller shown in the imdb photos. The man I remember had very black, curly hair and looked something like Dan Rather, except that the actor had blue eyes. This gentleman later did commercials on television, and even 20 years later he looked much as he did in the "Bright Promise" series. Please check out the cast and the photos again.

Mark Lincoln Miller, whose photo appears on imdb, was born in Iowa in 1926, and the Desert Sun newspaper has his obituary on its website. According to the Desert Sun, MLM died in 2015. The obituary states he had a life-long relationship with his same-sex partner named Nader, and that both men were close friends of Rock Hudson.

The Mark Miller who appeared on "Bright Promise" was born in Houston, TX, in 1924. And he is the individual who passed away in 2022. He is the father of Penelope Ann Miller and her siblings, and the youngest daughter Savannah inspired Miller to write the book and the film "Savannah Smiles."

Someone in authority should check with Penelope Ann Miller to verify this information. Her father deserves to have accurate reports written about him and to have his actual photograph used on the internet.
