The Price Is Right model Alexis Gaube surprised on stage by dancing contestant
Image
A contestant on The Price Is Right celebrated her win in style, which may have caught model Alexis Gaube off guard.

During a recent episode, viewers saw Danae win her way on stage with host Drew Carey by getting the closest bid to an item while at Contestant’s Row.

She got to play the Bonus Game for a trip to Maine worth over $7,000.

It featured four spots on the gameboard, featuring four smaller prizes worth $140 or less.

Danae had to tell Drew if the price for each smaller prize was higher or lower than the price they showed. If she got it right, she’d win that prize on the gameboard.

To win the trip to Maine, she had to win the prize on the gameboard with the word “Bonus” behind it.

25 best TV game shows of all time, ranked
Image
It seems as though the past few years have brought a resurgence of game shows, which were once a staple of both daytime and primetime television viewing. As a kid, I relished snow days and sick days when I could miss school and curl up on the sofa to watch all my favorites – “Pyramid,” “Family Feud” and “Password” were just a few. Every day after school I rushed through my homework so that I’d have time to watch “Tattletales” and “Tic Tac Dough.”

Game shows go all the way back to the days of radio, with one such program becoming the first game show to air on broadcast television – “Truth or Consequences” debuted on July 1, 1941, and before long the genre became a popular form of entertainment. All “Big Three” networks carried a variety of game shows on both daytime and primetime schedules until their popularity began to fizzle in the ’80s and ’90s.

Kristin Bjorklund, Emmy-Winning ‘Family Feud’ Producer, Dies at 67
Image
Kristin Bjorklund, who worked on the game show Family Feud for more than 40 years, most recently as co-executive producer, has died. She was 67.

Bjorklund died Sunday in Phoenix from sepsis after undergoing a kidney transplant, her friend Diane Hamilton announced. She had been on a transplant waiting list for years.

Bjorklund was “my co-worker, my buddy, my sister from another mister,” Brian Hawley, her fellow co-executive producer on Family Feud, wrote. “She could be feisty, strong-willed and oh-so-anal, but she had a fun, raunchy sense of humor, and there was nothing better than hearing her laugh.”

Born in Mineola, New York, on July 8, 1955, Bjorklund graduated from Dartmouth College in 1977 and began her career at game show giant Goodson-Todman Productions before starting on Family Feud in 1982.

She held the title of co-executive producer since 2002 and shared a Daytime Emmy Award for outstanding game show in 2019 (she was nominated six times in all). Along the way,...

Alec Baldwin-Hosted ‘Match Game’ Canceled at ABC
Joyce Bulifant, Richard Dawson, Patti Deutsch, Fannie Flagg, Elaine Joyce, Dick Martin, Johnny Olson, Gene Rayburn, Charles Nelson Reilly, Nipsey Russell, Brett Somers, Marcia Wallace, and Betty White in Match Game (1973)
“Match Game,” which Alec Baldwin has hosted since 2016, won’t return to ABC’s lineup next season, and neither will “Card Sharks,” “Celebrity Dating Game” and “The Hustler,” a source close to the productions confirmed to TheWrap on Friday.

The decision on “Match Game” comes after Baldwin accidentally shot and killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins in October. Despite the civil lawsuits filed against the actor, the pending cancellation is likely unrelated, according to Variety, which first reported the story.

“Match Game” last taped in 2020 before the pandemic and only ran two new episodes in 2021. “Card Sharks,” hosted by Joel McHale; Sony Pictures TV’s “Celebrity Dating Game,” hosted by Zooey Deschanel and Michael Bolton; and All3Media’s Studio Lambert’s “The Hustler,” which was hosted by Craig Ferguson, have also not aired since 2021. “Match Game and “Card Sharks” are both Fremantle productions.

Meanwhile, “Holey Moley” was previously renewed for a fourth season,...

Alec Baldwin's Match Game, Three More Game Shows Cancelled at ABC
Image
ABC is trimming down its lineup of summer game shows: The network has cancelled its Match Game reboot hosted by Alec Baldwin, according to our sister site Variety, along with Card Sharks, The Celebrity Dating Game and The Hustler. (A source confirms to TVLine that the four shows are unlikely to return.)

Based on the classic ’70s hit, Match Game asked contestants to fill in a blank in a sentence, trying to match the answers of a panel of celebrity guests. Baldwin served as host, with a rotating panel of celebs including Niecy Nash, Jack McBrayer and Cheryl Hines. It...

Alec Baldwin’s ‘Match Game’ Canceled at ABC, Along With ‘Card Sharks’ and More as Network Firms Up Summer Plans (Exclusive)
Image
The Alec Baldwin-hosted “Match Game” isn’t expected to return to ABC, as the Alphabet web begins to firm up its plans for its annual game show-heavy summer lineup.

Also unlikely to return are “Card Sharks,” “Celebrity Dating Game” and “The Hustler,” while “Celebrity Family Feud,” “Press Your Luck” and “The 100,000 Pyramid” are expected to be back.

The fate of “Match Game” had been the source of speculation in the wake of Baldwin’s accidental shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of the independent production “Rust” last fall.

But ABC’s decision to cancel “Match Game” is not related to that incident; “Match Game” hasn’t been in production since 2020, prior to the Covid-19 pandemic — and only aired two new episodes in 2021, which had been left over from the previous year.

The latest revival of “Match Game,” hosted by Baldwin, debuted in 2016, and ran for five seasons.

Drew Carey in The Price is Right (1972)
Jay Wolpert, ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ Writer and ‘Price is Right’ Producer, Dies at 79
Drew Carey in The Price is Right (1972)
Jay Wolpert, a TV game show producer who helped popularize “The Price is Right” and had a late career resurgence as a credited writer on Disney’s mega-blockbuster “Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl,” has died. He was 79.

Wolpert died Monday morning in Los Angeles after suffering from Alzheimer’s, his longtime manager of 20 years told TheWrap.

Wolpert created CBS’ “Double Dare” in the ’70s, spending much of his early career at Goodson-Todman Productions. He also worked with Chuck Barris and Dan Enright and helped develop classic game show hits such as “Family Feud,” “Card Sharks” and “Match Game.” But he most importantly helped introduce some of the humor and narrative elements to “The Price Is Right’s” Showcase Showdowns, working on the show as a producer between 1972-1978 and for over 1,300 episodes.

He also found success writing for the big screen, moving into screenwriting and...

ABC Orders ‘Judge Steve Harvey,’ Sticking the Comedian in a Courtroom to Rule on Actual Cases
Image
The comedian who knows a thing or two about family feuds is now actually going to have the final say. Steve Harvey, who hosts “Celebrity Family Feud” for ABC (as well as the syndicated daytime civilian “Family Feud”), has been tapped to host a new courtroom series for the Alphabet network.

With the working title “Judge Steve Harvey,” ABC has ordered 10 episodes of what it’s billing a “courtroom comedy series.” But the cases will be real: Harvey will welcome real-life people into his courtroom to rule on conflicts ranging from family disputes and sour friendships to actual small claims. “Steve plays by his own rules, basing his courtroom on his own life experiences and some good old common sense,” the network said.

“Judge Steve Harvey” will air on ABC sometime in 2022. Walt Disney Television’s new alternative unit will produce with Den of Thieves. Casting is currently underway by MysticArt Pictures,...
