Come Together

'Sytycd' results: Two eliminated from Top 14?
Spoilers ahead. Two more dancers have left the competition after tonight’s performance show, which featured the exceedingly endearing Anna Kendrick as a guest judge. I’ll post my full recap of tonight’s performances later on; in the meantime, discuss!

Alexis Juliano and Curtis Holland have been eliminated. Curtis injured his shoulder during rehearsals this week, so that one was a given.

Jasmine Harper and Mackenzie Dustman landed in the bottom three for the girls, but only Alexis and Jasmine had to dance solos.

For the guys, Nico Greetham and Alan Bersten joined Curtis in the bottom three.

‘Twisted’ Recap: Was Scott Involved With Regina’s Death?
Things keep getting more intense — and befuddling — on ‘Twisted.’ No one knows who to believe, who killed Regina, or whether Danny can be trusted yet.

Regina (Karynn Moore) is still a very dead girl, and Danny (Avan Jogia) is still a very suspicious figure in his hometown, but no one knows whodunnit! On the June 25 episode of Twisted, the pieces started coming together for several characters, but nothing was really resolved enough for the viewers to come to any conclusions. But hey, we’re only through with the third episode; there’s so much more drama to be had!

The Necklace Mystery Is Beginning To Come Together, For Some

In the first episode, the red and gold necklace was the only thing missing from the scene of Regina’s death, and although Danny denied killing her, he was found to be in possession of the necklace at the end of the hour.

From Beyonce Knowles and husband Jay-z's return to the stage to Jennifer Lopez and Mary J. Blige's collaboration, here are the top 5 most memorable performances from this weekend's big event.

1. Beyonce and Jay-z performed their 2003 hit Crazy In Love, of which the crowd went wild when the rapper made his surprise entrance. The fierce couple even stole a kiss mid-performance.

2. Mary J. Blige and Jennifer Lopez joined forces to perform Come Together. The 40-something women both dressed in black leotards, and as one Et Facebook user Andrea Nott put it, their outfits looked like they were from a Kiss Concert.

J-Lo Branded 'A Diva' By John Legend's Fiancee At Twickenham Concert
Jennifer Lopez
Jennifer Lopez has come under fire for the second time in a week, after her arrival on stage at Twickenham Stadium for the Sound for Change concert prompted accusations of diva antics by John Legend's fiancee.

Jennifer Lopez gave a show-stopping performance, but someone wasn't happy

Model Chrissy Teigen tweeted her indignation about being shuffled off backstage, where she was watching her fiance Legend perform. Her tweets tell the story...

She shall still be my face and hair idol. Her people can kick rocks.

— christine teigen (@chrissyteigen) June 1, 2013

I have never once been asked to leave an area for an artist's supreme arrival. Maybe I should carry around a horn and streamers.

— christine teigen (@chrissyteigen) June 1, 2013

I'm bummed because I really loved her dammit. Anyhow, moving on.

Rock Icons Unite For Boston Concert
Steven Tyler
Boston -- The song "Come Together" their rallying cry, performers at a benefit concert for victims of the deadly Boston Marathon bombing had thousands of people cheering for a city that has pulled together to overcome adversity.

Veteran rockers Aerosmith helped close the 5 1/2 hour Boston Strong Concert on Thursday. After an energetic run through hits, such as "Walk This Way" and "Sweet Emotion," they were joined on stage by 1990s boy band New Kids on the Block and other performers for the Beatles classic.

The Boston Strong Concert had residents jamming to songs from the Dropkick Murphys, Boston and other musical acts and even laughing at a joke about the capture of a bombing suspect.

The concert kicked off with the rock band Boston playing songs including its 1970s hit "More Than a Feeling."

"Tonight, we are all Boston," lead singer Tommy DeCarlo declared to a crowd of thousands of people,...

Blu-ray Review: Ambitious ‘Cloud Atlas’ Falls Just Short of Heights to Which it Reaches
Chicago – There’s a large part of me that wants to wholeheartedly recommend and embrace “Cloud Atlas” for two reasons. One, it’s based on arguably the best book of the millennium so far, David Mitchell’s stunning masterpiece. And if more people see the movie, more are likely to read a book that everyone should experience. Two, I do agree with those who love the film that Hollywood doesn’t take risks like this often enough, and if we don’t encourage risks, we won’t get rewards. However, “Cloud Atlas” still frustrates me more than it thrills me. Maybe the book was simply un-adaptable as so many have theorized. But I think mistakes were made on top of the inherent difficulty in Mitchell’s novel.

Rating: 3.0/5.0

I stand by what I said in my theatrical review, “It comes down to this — “Cloud Atlas” is a book that possibly...

American Idol Season 12 Finale Recap: Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Finalists [Updated]
Lionel Richie, Ryan Seacrest, Carrie Underwood, and Luke Bryan in American Idol (2002)
“Either way, we’re gonna celebrate tonight.”

With six simple words, Kree Harrison summed up what most American Idol fans have been feeling for the last fortnight. I mean, seriously, once we got down to what Loleatta Holloway once referred to as “the reeeeeallll nitty gritty” of the competition — by which I mean a righteous Top 3 of Candice Glover, Kree and third-place finisher Angie Miller — how could you really be too upset about where the chips ended up falling?

Oh sure, executive producer Nigel Lythgoe stacked the Top 20 deck with powerhouse ladies and guys with questionable voter appeal in his...

The Voice Recap: Let the Games Begin. Next Week.
It's here! The last day of the blind auditions. Of course it is not really the last day, as this whole season so far has taken place over the course of one very long day, but NBC is absolutely keeping up the facade that time has passed. Heck, even the judges kept mentioning that this was the last "day" for them to assemble their rag-tag teams. This is all okay, I guess, but what does it say of the producers’ general opinion of the viewing public?Mark Lennon, "Come Together"This was a truly adorable audition, because perennially undead Carson Daly traveled all the way to Venice Beach to interview Mark Lennon, lead singer of Venice. Apparently, when Carson Daly was just a leather-clad Lord Fauntleroy in someone's eye, he was a huge fan of the band. He went to their concerts! He even heroically met Stevie Nicks on their behalf!

'The Voice' recap: 'The Blind Auditions Premiere'
Shakira
"The Voice" is back, and for the first five minutes of this two-hour marathon show we are reminded how awesome it is compared to, say, other singing competition shows. Cough, "American Idol," cough, "X-Factor," cough cough. "The Voice" cares about the artists! It's not superficial! The voice has Shakira! And Usher! And, you know, Blake Shelton and Adam Levine! And Usher launched Justin Bieber! Take that, Randy Jackson! Before we get to the blind auditions, the judges perform "Come Together" by the Beatles. Adam Levine is on drums and Usher is on bass. There's Shakira being Shakira! You know, she can play guitar, too,...

Shakira and Usher Make Their Debut on an Emotional Premiere of The Voice
Shakira
The Voice is back! And there are new celebrity coaches.

Shakira, who welcomed a son, Milan, in January, and Usher officially took over for Cee Lo Green and Christina Aguilera Monday night, joining Blake Shelton and Adam Levine on the show's two-hour season 4 premiere.

The quartet kicked off the show with a group performance of the Beatles' "Come Together," with Levine on drums and Shakira playing a harmonica while Shelton and Usher traded licks on guitars.

But it was the emotional backstories of several contestants that stole the show.

The Voice Season 4 Premiere Recap: Love Shak, Baby, Love Shak!
Shakira
Diva-holics, relax! What Season 4 of NBC’s The Voice lacks in Christina Aguilera’s extroverted decolletage, flying-saucer hats and impromptu “this is how it’s done” vocal displays, has already been made up for with Shakira’s harmonica riffs, inspirational quips (“faith is the engine!”) and killer Blake Shelton impression.

Yep, we’re only one episode in, and the uni-monikered Colombian superstar is already proving so charmingly adept at her new gig that Xtina and Cee Lo’s absences barely registered. I mean, it’d be nice if one of the coaches went out and got an animal sidekick a...

'The Voice' Season 4 premiere: 10 things to expect when Usher & Shakira join Adam Levine & Blake Shelton
"The Voice" returns for Season 4 tonight on NBC with new coaches Usher and Shakira joining returning favorites Adam Levine and Blake Shelton.

How do the newbies fare? Surprisingly well. As Carson Daly told us about the new quartet's chemistry, the line-up delivers everything we've come to expect from "The Voice." (And even if no one is quite as sassy as Christina Aguilera, Shakira is so adorable that it doesn't really matter.)

We got an advance look at tonight's season premiere and while we won't spoil the Blind Auditions fun by revealing who winds up on which team, we can share the following 10 highlights of what to expect.

Shakira and Usher are both very excited to join the show: Not that they'd say anything different, but Shakira is eager to "help someone else achieve their dreams" and Usher believes "The Voice" has "credibility" and gives him an "opportunity to do what I love,...

'American Idol' Top 9 interview: How Kree Harrison made Beatles night her own
There is a reason why many are considering Kree Harrison a front-runner to win "American Idol" Season 12. And Kree's show-opening killing of "With a Little Help from My Friends" on Beatles night showed that well. We talked to the singer right after the show -- find out what she had to say in this interview.

How are you feeling?

Kree Harrison: I feel great! Really good. I mean, the judges' feedback was awesome. Randy and Mariah tricked me for a minute, so that was a little nerve-wracking. I literally had a minor heart attack when she was like, "I didn't like it." And I was like, "Please, please like it!" But it worked out.

How did it feel going first?

Kree Harrison: That was the most nerve-wracking thing about it. It's a lot of pressure to go first. 'Cause, not only do you have to beat your last performance,...

"American Idol" Recap: I Want to Hold Lazaro's Hand
Wuh-oh. Looks like a few of our favorite could-be-homosexuals tripped in their character shoes this week.

The catalog of Lennon and McCartney provides ample opportunity for Idol singers to prove they can do artistic things like warble the lyrics to "Come Together" with a straight face or care about the plight of Father McKenzie. Please! Paul Jolley don't have time for that! He's too busy "woodshedding" with my boy Devin, hopefully.

How did the kids do this week? Let's rank the rubber-souled scamps from #9 to #1.

9. Lazaro Arbos, "In My Life"

Well, my prophecy is coming true: The worse Lazaro does, the more gorgeous he gets. And this week he was absolutely terrible/stunning! Wearing a primary yellow blazer that Samantha Jones might bring to a business-casual orgy, Lazaro took to the stage with those trembling, all-too-wet pupils and basically murmur-whispered "In My Life" in a funereal drone. That might be...

'American Idol' Top 9: The Beatles prove hard for several Idols
It's the Beatles songbook night on "American Idol," which we would like to think would be a great night because it's great music. But that is not always the case on "Idol."

Before we can start anything, Carly Rae Jepsen and Coke are asking You (all Uncle Sam-like) to help choose lyrics or stage effects for her songs? Hmm. Does anybody actually care enough to go vote?

Again, before any singing, we find out the 11th Idol to go on tour is ... Aubrey Cleland. Wow, it's pretty surprising she beat out tween-bait like Charlie. But good for her.

1. Kree Harrison, "With a Little Help From My Friends"

Interesting song choice for Kree. It wasn't what we would've first thought of, but it actually really works for her. She doesn't sound like the Beatles, she doesn't sound like Joe Cocker, she just sounds like herself, but it's not bastardizing the song in any way.

American Idol Top 9 Performance Recap: Such an Easy Game to Play [Updated]
Lionel Richie, Ryan Seacrest, Carrie Underwood, and Luke Bryan in American Idol (2002)
At first, I didn’t understand why American Idol needed to get Jimmy Iovine to endorse the John Lennon-Paul McCartney songbook at the top of tonight’s Top 9 performance telecast.

Then, as several contestants approached their ditties the way I might open an AP Calculus textbook — which is to say with bewildered ignorance and/or total indifference — I remembered: I’m an old man. Come to think of it, you’re probably old, too. And those Beatles songs? They’re history, like the Dead Sea Scrolls.

But who among us hasn’t scraped a little mold off an...

Studios Not Rushing to Advertise Upcoming Movies on Oscar Telecast
One thing movie fans might not get much of during Sunday’s Oscar telecast, ironically, is a lot of advertisements for upcoming films. Kenneth Branagh recalls the opening ceremony of London 2012 | Eyewitness 2012
27 July: the actor relives working with Danny Boyle to help create the dazzling opening ceremony of the 2012 Olympics

I was in Liverpool on a location scout for the film Jack Ryan when I got the call. Danny Boyle rang me and explained that they'd had a great tragedy – Mark Rylance's daughter had passed away and he was pulling out of his role in the opening ceremony. He asked if I would take over. I was standing on a street corner and I was so shocked at Mark's news that I didn't really take in the second part.

A couple of days later I went to see Danny at the Olympic Stadium. It was three weeks before the ceremony and the place was packed with thousands of people all doing things impressively. Danny seemed to know everybody's first name – it was like taking a walk with the Pied Piper. We...

London 2012: Opening ceremony – reviews
Writers, critics and campaigners give their view of Danny Boyle's spectacular curtain-raiser to the sporting spectacular

Ai Weiwei: It was about real people

Brilliant. It was very, very well done. This was about Great Britain; it didn't pretend it was trying to have global appeal. Because Great Britain has self-confidence, it doesn't need a monumental Olympics. But for China that was the only imaginable kind of international event. Beijing's Olympics were very grand – they were trying to throw a party for the world, but the hosts didn't enjoy it. The government didn't care about people's feelings because it was trying to create an image.

In London, they really turned the ceremony into a party – they are proud of themselves and respect where they come from, from the industrial revolution to now. I never saw an event before that had such a density of information about events and stories...

Cate Blanchett in Elizabeth (1998)
Olympics Opening Ceremony Pays Tribute to British Favorites
Cate Blanchett in Elizabeth (1998)
Saying "Good evening Mr. Bond," Queen Elizabeth had a star turn in the opening ceremony as Britain put on a show to dazzle the world and kick off the London Olympics on Friday. In a night of surprises, the Queen, 86, arrived at the Olympic Stadium following a filmed sequence that showed her leaving Buckingham Palace with the world's most famous spy played by Daniel Craig. Then stunt actors playing her and Bond helicoptered across London to the venue and, to a tumult of cheers, she appeared on the steps of the VIP seats. Her moment on film was a high...

Himbo to highbrow
If Matthew McConaughey is best known for forgettable romcoms, then his latest film, Killer Joe, might come as quite a shock. But then he has really been a serious actor all along, he says

For Matthew McConaughey, as someone whose name escapes me once said, the handsome lessons have definitely paid off. Chiselled of jaw, glittering of eye, radioactive of tan, McConaughey has spent the best part of the past decade nailing down a rugged-yet-sensitive screen persona that has seen him crowned as the smirking prince of the romantic comedy, the repository of apparently inexhaustible yearnings for a tamed alpha-male mate. His screen foils read like a rollcall of the romcom damned: Jennifer Lopez, Kate Hudson, Sarah Jessica Parker, Jennifer Garner. For all his crimes against motion pictures – The Wedding Planner, Failure to Launch, Fool's Gold – McConaughey is despised as much as he is envied. He is, after all, an actor who,...

Mad Men (2007)
How Much ‘Mad Men’ Paid for The Beatles
Mad Men (2007)
Don Draper (Jon Hamm) in ‘Mad Men.’

At first, the discussion of the Beatles in last night’s “Mad Men” seemed like just another example of the show’s famous cultural set-dressing, much like the news update on Vietnam heard in the background of the same episode. Then, in the closing scene, Don Draper unsheathed a “Revolver” LP and cued up the song “Tomorrow Never Knows.” The general reaction on Twitter was, “Whoa.” That sentiment was immediately followed by something like,...

Robots Performing Beatles Invokes Inspiration
Joining the ranks of robot musical greatness this week comes this amazing little video titled The Hubos Come Together. Watch it and continue reading below.

Watching this actually inspired the completion of a half-baked idea I've had for awhile. For the longest time I've thought a mockumentary about the future would be an awesome idea and I think I found the perfect subject matter to tackle it! We live in a world where music is heavily produced as is, but what if we reach a point where machines are actually the ones making music?

Former amputees guitarists with mechanical arms, smart computers with bass/techno rhythm algorhytms, to a human Simon who finds his match in a robot Garfunkel, all would be really intriguing to me. The whole movie could be focused on the beginning of robot rock and the battle between those for and against the mechanical integration into a truly human art.

Jennifer Lopez & Marc Anthony (Mostly) Get Along on Q'Viva! The Chosen
Jennifer Lopez
Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony say their relationship on their talent show ¡Q'Viva! The Chosen is strictly professional, but that doesn't mean Anthony, in particular, doesn't get smacked around - literally - every once in a while. "We laugh a lot," Lopez, 42, told Ellen DeGeneres in an interview with Anthony and their costar Jamie King that will air Monday. But King begged to differ. "Not always," he said. "I find myself in the middle refereeing sometimes. It's fantastic." Related: Jennifer Lopez Isn't Sure About Marrying Again - Yet"It's true," Lopez admitted. McCartney, Van Halen, Flack, Fray and Bentley
By Roger Friedman

Paul McCartney’s wonderful “Kisses on the Bottom” is not the only Beatles-eque CD of the day. Roberta Flack is delivering her long-awaited “Let it Be Roberta,” a stunning reimagining of Beatles songs like “We Can Work it Out,” “In My Life,” “Come Together,” George Harrison’s “Isn’t it a Pity,” and –shockingly–a three minute version of “Hey Jude.”

HollywoodNews.com: Paul McCartney‘s wonderful “Kisses on the Bottom” is not the only Beatles-eque CD of the day. Roberta Flack is delivering her long-awaited “Let it Be Roberta,” a stunning reimagining of Beatles songs like “We Can Work it Out,” “In My Life,” “Come Together,” George Harrison’s “Isn’t it a Pity,” and –shockingly–a three minute version of “Hey Jude.” On the latter, Roberta simply turns the main song into an acoustic rendering and drops the long “na-na” section. Her versions of “Let it Be” and “The Long and Winding Road” are terrific, too. Go straight to amazon or ITunes right now for these CDs. Then of course Van Halen has “A Different Kind of Truth” with David Lee Roth returning as lead singer and Wolfgang Van Halen replacing Michael Anthony as bassist. There are also two more contemporary releases: from the Fray, and...

The 100 Greatest Madonna Songs
The premiere of Madonna's video for "Give Me All Your Luvin,'" the first single off her new album M.D.N.A., is today, children. It's bound to be a little over-the-top and nutty, like the deranged song itself, and I assume it's not going to live up to the greatest stuff in Madonna's catalog. Then I remember: What does live up to the best stuff in Madonna's catalog? Turns out, not much. Madonna's repertoire is a varied and thundering collection of self-empowering pop ditties, soulful ballads, and kooky little anomalies. And they're mostly all irreplaceable. In the tradition of Rolling Stone, who listed their 100 Greatest Beatles Songs a couple years ago, let's reinspect Madonna's complete history and name her definitive 100 jams. Ready? Start disagreeing Now.

100. "Dance 2Night" from Hard Candy

American Idol Season 11 Premiere Recap: Midnight in the Garden of Good & Bad Auditions
Lionel Richie, Ryan Seacrest, Carrie Underwood, and Luke Bryan in American Idol (2002)
Season 11 of American Idol kicked off with a reminder that, like East German Olympic speed-skaters of the 1970s, this year’s crop of contestants has been groomed for singing-competition glory with scientific rigor and a singular focus. They’ve been listening to renditions of “A Moment Like This” and “Flying Without Wings” from inside their mothers’ wombs. They executed their first Whitney Houston-style runs before the age of three. And if they’re not up to following in Scotty McCreery’s footsteps, then by golly, at the very least they can ably replace Ryan Seacrest — at half the cost...

It seems like only yesterday Scotty McCreery was named “American Idol,” but it’s that time again. Tonight, Savannah was the city that kicked it all off when part one of the premiere of the 11th season aired.

And just like last year, the judging team of Randy Jackson, Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez didn’t hold back with the wanna-be-Idols – 10,000 of them lined the streets hoping for a shot.

'American Idol': David Leathers Jr., Phillip Phillips Wow
Gabi Carrubba, Shannon Magrane and Amy Brumfield also stand out during Savannah, Georgia, auditions.

"American Idol" kicked off its 11th season Wednesday (January 18) with auditions in Savannah, Georgia, and Steven Tyler, Randy Jackson and Jennifer Lopez were in a very giving mood when it came to handing out Golden Tickets.

In all, 42 singers were given the green light to Hollywood, as the show placed an overwhelming emphasis on true competitors rather than gag auditions. The mood of the show was sunny and positive, a far cry from the days of Simon Cowell, when acid-tongued barbs were the order of the day.

The evening started with David Leathers Jr., a wayfarer-clad 17-year-old who claimed his nickname among his friends is "Mr. Steal Your Girl." But his most defining characteristic was bluntly pointed out by Lopez: "You look like you're 12," she told the singer.

Watch: Weird Al, Steven Tyler & Alice Cooper Sing Beatles
Steven Tyler
On New Year's Eve 2011, three men entered a stage. Those three men were Steven Tyler, "Weird Al" Yankovic and Alice Cooper. They sang "Come Together" by the Beatles. If those in the audience told their friends, their friends would not believe them. But now, we have proof that magical things can, indeed, come true in 2012.

Heralding the year 2012 after, we assume, an exclusive meeting of the Society Of Guys With Beautiful Hair Well After We Thought Was Possible, the three men did the most surreal karaoke we've ever seen in Hawaii at the Mala Ocean Tavern in Wailea, Maui. The late-period Beatles record (which had previously been covered by Tyler as an early Aerosmith hit) got the supergroup treatment it deserves in front of an enthusiastic crowd. And thanks to YouTube user johno808maui, we can experience it for ourselves.

Somehow, these men are more relevant than ever. Although your...
