  • Again a master piece from great Kala Thapasvi (in Telugu it means The person who devotes his life for arts) K.Viswanath and first (always) in my favorite directors list.

It's a story of a Great classical singer (Mammooty) and a boy who is just starting his career in classical music. But with his knowledge and talent he is in a position to overcome that legend, which couldn't be tolerated by this boy. Internally he realize the boy's talents but couldn't tolerate him anymore.

This resembles the story of "Amadeous" but developed and shot for Indian classical base and environment. Needless to say music is the back bone for this movie and in the name of K.V.Mahadevan his assistant Pugalendhi has composed all the songs. Each song is a master piece.

Radhika did her best and (after "Swathimuthyam" by K.Viswanath) she got an excellent opportunity to show her talent.

    A Worth Watching Movie!!

Great film - highly recommended to watch, even for a westerner. The previous review has a slight error.

Essentially, the tale reflects on the Maestro's life; the narrator being the Maestro shows how he falls from grace because of his ego.

He simply couldn't accept that a young boy could be more talented than him. The emotions of The Godfather trilogy are captured in 1/3 the time.

Normally this writer/director has happy endings, not this time!

The brilliance of this director/writer is just something. I can't believe he hasn't done many more movies!!

Does anyone else share this view of the author?

I certainly hope he does some more, although he might be getting on...
  • Swati Kiranam (1992) : Brief Review -

Hollywood may have many classic musicals but they could never match the realism and philosophical touch of Regional Indian Musical Dramas, HERE'S ANOTHER PROOF. Hollywood begun successfully with Musical in late 20s and early 30s, just when talkies were established. Many 30s, 40s and 50s musicals have recieved universal acclaim and in 60s, Oscars just went mad over them. Let me tell you i have seen almost all those classic musicals of Hollywood, i mean almost every popular classic you name right from 'The Broadway Melody' in 1929 to 2020's Masterpiece 'Hamilton', and i am writing this review considering all those films. Those popular Hollywood Musicals were mainly made for entertainment hence, almost 99% films had simple theories and light-toned themes. Regional Indian Films have scored better merits when it comes to quality content in Musicals. One unforgettable product for me is Marathi Play 'Katyaar Kaljay Ghusali' (which was also remade in feature film in 2015), and now i have found the Telugu Competitor of it - 'Swati Kiranam'. Yes, I'm yet to watch few other Musicals of Indian cinema from 80s but for the time being Swati Kiranam is apt for me to say this. The story of a classical singer, who finds it difficult to cope with the rising popularity of a child-prodigy. What Hollywood's 'Star Is Born' failed to do, turning that arrogance and jealousy factor as a life-lesson, Swati Kiranam does it. Katyaar too did the same but different style. Even Hrishikesh Mukherjee's 'Abhimaan' failed to leave an impact on the sames so obviously it become more important thing to notice. Swati Kiranam has everything, from Melodious Music to Meaningful lyrics to powerful writing to amazing performances to lavish set designing to superb direction. One of those rare Musical which gets all the things right and for right reasons. In short, a Cult reformation of Classical Music Art in Philosophical Feature Film.

    RATING - 8.5/10*

In all respects this movie is supreme compared to current times and the content we are exposed to now. The mythological references to the main characters are excellent. Acting of that kid was top notch and mamooty nailed it and god vishwanath garu jandyala garu and sirivennela garu and spb.. where to start and where to end with these legends and their cordination through out the movie. That last scene where he joins again as a student and sings sarigamapa.. that scene alone is award worthy and can be adopted to any professional to the ones who lost himself in his way of evolution into the greater forms from his or her initial journey as a innocent student to the work or art he or her has been interested in.. provided if such morons are in a position to agree or atleast recognize their mistakes as mistakes they have been doing in the mask of reaching heights and correct them if possible. Gold Movie in all respects. Vishwanadh Garu 🙌🙌🙌
