  • Nunsploitation would seem to be more of a European thing, but the Japanese decided to have a go too, and Wet and Rope is one of the results. Asian cinema is often remarked upon for its bizarreness, and after having seen this film; I've got to say that isn't surprising...in the least! Quite what the hell the point of this film is, is anyone's guess, as all the sleazy elements on display don't mean a thing to one another, thus making the film merely a collection of oddities, united one very thin plot line. The story (if you can even call it that) follows a young woman who tries to commit suicide after being thrown out by her husband. After being saved by a priest, she is recruited into his convent...where all the nuns are more pervy than your average whore! The film features a lot of sex, some of it featuring things like masks, bread rolls and (wait for it) sheep costumes! I actually can't believe there was a time when I found lesbian sex out of the ordinary...it's the norm in films like these! It really is hard to take this film seriously, but it's not a complete dead loss as watching the events unfold is often very funny, and fans of wayward cinema are likely to get a kick out of it. Overall, I can't say that this is a favourite of mine...but it's just about worth seeing.

Spirited nunsploitation from Koyu Ohara, the director of "White Rose Campus: Then, Everybody Gets Raped!" Well, here's more rape-themed pink. After a blushing bride is raped on her wedding night by a bunch of thugs, her husband rejects her (in the grand Japanese tradition) and she contemplates suicide. She is saved at the last minute by a priest who invites her to join a convent on the edge of town. This convent is not your ordinary convent, it is a haven for hot lesbians in habits. These women spend their nights fondling each other and their days (yes, days!) visiting Tokyo discos and getting picked up by horny boys who don't take no for an answer. Into this scenario comes a man searching for his lost sister and a bizarre religious ritual involving rich men who pay to have sex/rape with a woman dressed as a sheep. The plot is typically bizarre for a Nikkatsu production and the performances are strong. Some of the sex scenes are mighty erotic, especially the lesbian trysts, which are numerous. Ohara has a shameless, perky film-making style that elevates sleaze to a gentle, perverse art. Although this film is inferior to Suzuki's masterful "Convent of the Holy Beast", it is still a must-see for fans of lesbians, nuns, and vaginas.
  • A young woman gets raped by three thugs on her wedding night while her husband is forced to watch. He then tell her to leave because his honor has been violated. Our poor gal goes to the ocean to drown herself but a priest stops her and convinces her to enter his convent. Every nun is of course (like in most Euro Nunsploitationers) obsessed by masturbation and sin. A wounded gangster seeks refuge in her room and she 'heals' him. Later she and a horny sister goes to a disco and meet some dancing studs and it ends in an orgy. She also fools around with the priest while a weird servant/sex freak licks the toilet bowl!?!. In the most bizarre scene of the film, the convent needs to raise money so they invite some sleazy business men who wear negro masks while watching our heroine getting raped on the alter in a bunny suit which turns everybody on and an all-out orgy unfolds - all in the celebration of St. Animals Day!?!

Compared to other Japanese Shock Videos, this one is more silly than nasty but definitely a must for psychotronic addicts of the exotic and deranged.

Rarely ever laughed as much or as loud than with "Wet Rope Confession"; a nunsploitation movie coming from Japan, a country where hardly even live Catholic people to begin with! This film simply needs to be seen in order to be believed, as it is cheap, totally incoherent and featuring the most absurd situations imaginable! The movie opens very interesting, though, with classy images of a nurse and doctor on their wedding day. When the girl gets raped by burglars on the same day, the husband banishes her from his life. Saving her from committing suicide by a narrow margin, a seemly helpful priest convinces the girl to enter a convent as a nun, where God will surely forgive her sins. The ordinary nuns fill their days with lesbian games, an occasional whipping or escape into town to go go disco-dancing (truly an hilarious sight) but the real perverts are the priest and abbess who rent out their nuns as sex-toys to rich business men. "Wet Rope Confession" never really gets shocking or sadistic and even the most uncut version doesn't feature that much nudity. It's just funny and trashy because the nuns dress up like sheep and are forced to walk in hurdles etc... This film is entertaining mainly because of its ineptness! For example, near the end of the story, the woman comes face to face again with the rapist who destroyed her life and you expect some sort of revenge, only...it doesn't happen!

Nunsploitation film from Japan of some infamy.Thieves break into the home of newlyweds. They beat the husband and rape the woman. The man can no longer stand his wife and he turns her out. About to jump into the ocean she is stopped by a priest who sends her to a convent where all sorts of nasty things happen. She eventually escapes dressed as a sheep (don't ask) with a gangster who turned up. As with most of these sort of films the proceedings are way way over the top. The events border on the silly and are ultimately for a small audience. The problem is that the whole point of the film is the weirdness and little else. There is no plot and other than seeing what new twist they've come up with there is nothing to see. I think that the attempt at a normal movie keeps the films passion from ever going anywhere since the structure of the film-making process keeps everything distant and makes one think that perhaps there is a reason for all of the depravity (yea right). It was for me a waste of 70 minutes (well less because of scan). Watching films like this I often ponder why I bother since while they are often well made, they are much too over the top to ever be take seriously. I mean how can you be shocked when you're laughing to hard?
  • WET & ROPE is another of the notorious Japanese pink eiga movies. These were softcore dramas that extensively pushed on-screen depictions of sexuality to the limit. This film's not as powerful or violent as some, but it's still frequently unpleasant. It begins with a woman walking sorrowfully through the woods before we flashback to her home life, which is interrupted by a gang of raping goons. Later she's rescued by a priest and taken to a nunnery, but this is the kind of place that you see in the likes of Jess Franco movies. Expect wall-to-wall couplings, extensive nudity and some truly bizarre moments involving animal costumes.

    8/10 for pure sleaze.

I'm not sure why it's called Wet & Rope, it should be called Nuns Need Lovin' Too. Or Disco Nuns. Maybe the sleaziest nunsplotation flick I've seen yet. I loved it! It's only 70 minutes long, and it has so much sleaze packed into it. Spoilers (lol) ahead. Where to begin…

--the main character gets raped on her wedding night in front of her new husband. The rapist leaves, and the husband throws her out. So she becomes a nun.

--Japanese nuns wear very large knickers.

--nuns like going to the discotheque, picking up two guys and doing them at the same time.

--the subtitle translator went to the Ralph Wiggum school of English. They actually had "unpossible" as a word.

--nuns seem to enjoy bread for other purposes then to eat.

--if a guy rapes a nun in front of another nun, it seems to be allowed in Japan.

--two nuns dry hump and diddle each other while a priest watches them and polishes his silverware. And I actually mean polishing silverware. Not a euphemism.

--The nuns throw a party for something called St. Animals Celebration (I know my Catholicism is a little rusty, but St. Animal?), where business men come and pay to see who gets to rape a nun dressed as a sheep on the alter. Meanwhile all the other business men orgy out with the other nuns.

--our main character sees her rapist (the first one that is, from her wedding night), but doesn't get any form of revenge.

--at no point is the Devil or a demon part of the movie.

Now it's possible that not all nuns everywhere are into this type of behavior, but if I learned one thing from this movie, it's that Japanese nuns like getting raped.
  • After being brutally raped,Mikki attempts to commit suicide.A friendly priest talks her out of it and she decides to become a nun.Once inside the convent, she becomes again a victim of sexual abuse."Wet and Rope" by Koyu Ohara is a truly fantastic piece of sleaze. It's not as beautiful and visually stunning as Norifumi Suzuki's exploitation classic "School of the Holy Beast",but certainly offers everything a nunsploitation fan could want-beautiful and often nude women,a perverse priest,a nunnery full of lesbians and wickedly deviant finale. The acting is pretty good and the main actress Yuki Nokihara has a great body and beautiful eyes.A must-see for fans of nunsploitation sub-genre or exploitation cinema in general.8 out of 10.Highly recommended.
  • Not as one might assume from the title, a bondage movie, but even more strangely, a Japanese nunsploitation. Told gleefully, as if by Bunuel, this torrid little saga begins with a wedding. But be not mislead, before the marriage can be consummated, baddies break in and tie up Mr, forcing him to watch the vigorous rape of Mrs (who doesn't seem too put out). She's upset afterwards though because her man prevents her from phoning the police lest his reputation be destroyed, and casts her out the house. Needless to say she ends up in a convent getting more of the same. Lots of sex, some bondage and whippings but best of all a glorious orgiastic climax with the star of the show taken from behind dressed as a lamb by a business man in a mask.

In terms of "classic" exploitation cinema, and specifically in regards to the pinku and nunsploit genres - WET AND ROPE is not the "best of the best" (a spot that I still hold for SCHOOL OF THE HOLY BEAST) - but this film does try pretty damn hard. A ridiculously fun and bizarre entry in a fun and bizarre genre - WET AND ROPE is definitely one of the more entertaining pinku (or any genre for that matter) films I've seen in a while.

A young woman is raped in front of her husband by a group of thugs on her wedding night. Her husband kicks her to the curb, stating that his "honor has been ruined" (a trend I see often amongst rape-victims in these films...), so the new wife decides to commit suicide. She is stopped right before plunging off a cliff to her demise by a seemingly kind priest who says she can join his nunnery and God will heal all. Of course, once inside, the nunnery is filled with lesbionic, hot-dog-bun-f!cking nymphos who want nothing more than to screw guys and go to the "Diskotek" in full nun regalia (?!?!). Add in some strange side characters and plots, including a toilet bowl licking, Igor-like "assistant", an overly horny priest and abbess, a man on the run from a robbery, some clueless cops, and the absolute best part - the festival of St. Animal (???) where well-paying businessman come to dress up in Negro masks and screw all the nuns, while one lucky "winner" gets to bone one DRESSED AS A SHEEP (???!!!????!!!!). For real - I couldn't make this sh!t up if I tried...

I honestly find it hard to believe that the Japanese could cram so much material into 65 (or so) minute films. It's another reason I love the pinku genre so much - lots of craziness condensed into a manageable time-frame, so you rarely have a chance to be bored. Finer points like character development and continuity may end up lost in the shuffle - but who watches exploit films for that stuff anyway? WET AND ROPE isn't the best pinku or nunsploit film out there, but it is an infectiously fun entry for fans of either genre, or for anyone looking for something deliriously different...8/10
  • I have to give Koyu Ohara's 'Wet Rope Confession' a high rating because among other things, it is an utterly unique and fascinating viewing experience. Here is one of the oddest 'pink' films of all time, concerning a beautiful young woman who joins a bizarre convent after being raped on her wedding night, by a gang of thugs. Loaded with surreal imagery and filmed with great style, director Koyu O'Hara utilizes garish colors especially well, and some scenes are truly gorgeous. Other scenes are quite indescribable, such as when the young woman Miki, and a fellow nun enter a disco in the middle of the afternoon and are picked up by some shady looking characters. Some scoff at the bizarre imagery here, but I believe everything has it's meaning. Symbolism is in fact the dominating factor in this one. The ending is especially bizarre, but somehow extremely sweet and romantic at the same time, as actress Yuki Nohira possesses a rare quality of appearing very sexual and also totally naive and innocent at the same time. The acting, as in most of the Japan 'pink' films of this time, is extremely good. The film-makers touch on a very obscure but potent erotic nerve by showing nuns in sexual situations, while appearing to enjoy the experience while simultaneously being disturbed by what they are doing. Fans of cult cinema should have a very special appreciation for these films, for before the advent of DVD productions like 'Wet Rope' were absolutely unheard of outside of their native land. The 1970's were truly a great time for underground cinema, and 'Wet Rope Confession' is a nice example of what that decade had to offer. See this mysterious and beautiful film!
  • A lovely young lady goes from marriage to cliff jump suicides edge after thugs break into her home and rape her on her wedding night. Unable to deal with the shame her husband kicks her out (an honour thing I guess though it seems like a straightforward dick move to me), and just as all seems lost a friendly abbot recruits her to a convent. Here she settles in to a quiet life of worship and contemplation, the rest of the film playing out as a restrained and respectful treatment of convent life and the religious way. I'm yanking your chain of course, as one might expect from the title this is pinku territory. What one might not expect is how fun the film is and not just fun in a "laugh at all the degradation and weirdness" way, but intentionally amusing. Director Koyu Ohara adopts an approach to this nunsploitation film that owes more to Bunuel (albeit a rather perverse Bunuel) than it does the likes of Flavia the Heretic, he is critical, but more concerned with oddball comedy than he is grim shock tactics. The convent our heroine finds herself in is something of a hotbed for lust and corruption, it has made a pretty poor job of withdrawing from secular concerns and perversions. We get cruciform poses during sex, bread masturbation alongside prayer, money woes and a gangster in hiding and much of it is in a spirit of good fun. The women are beautiful (leading lady Yuki Nohira is a particular delight) and there's a fair amount of nudity, a little abuse but nothing too elaborate, and the film zips along nicely. Tensions do build though, as various higher ups prove to be pretty slimy customers and everything builds to a completely bonkers and pretty darned funny climax. As with the other pinkus that I've seen so far, this one didn't completely hold my attention, it is never boring but my mind did wander and I expect it wasn't supposed to, I don't whether its a problem with the film or just me but it is worth saying. On the other hand, this is probably the most fun that I've had with the genre so far and even the most accomplished I've seen. Ohara directs with real vision, vision that goes beyond twisted characters and crackpot sleaze. Memorable images are well spread throughout, and he gives the convent a clean, reverent look that contrasts very well with the shenanigans within. There's a great sense of hustle bustle where needed as well, he has a good handle on action when it gets more kinetic. The proof of his skill comes I think at a point where the dreaded Japanese beaver blockers appear and are irritating more for ruining the symmetry of the shot than the eroticism. Nothing more to say really, but if you dig this kind of cinema give this one a look pronto, its quite a winner.
