ABC News Biden Interview Tops Friday Night Ratings With 8.5 Million Viewers
Joe Biden
ABC News’ interview with President Joe Biden won its timeslot across major demographics on Friday night, as well as bringing in the most viewers with 8.5 million viewers in the fast overnight national ratings. The early numbers also showed ABC coming out on top in both in the 18-49 and 25-54 age demographics, though the 18-49 number just narrowly edged out Fox’s “WWE Friday Night SmackDown.”

The special, with anchor George Stephanopoulos interviewing Biden amid rising concern over his mental acuity and whether he can remain the Democratic Party’s nominee, was also the most-watched ABC News primetime non-election/debate program since Stephanopoulos’ 2018 interview with former FBI director James Comey.

In separate fast affiliate viewership numbers, ABC’s Biden one-on-one came ahead of a near-tie between CBS’s “Lingo” and Fox’s “WWE Friday Night SmackDown,” the former drawing 2.1 million while “SmackDown” pulled 2 million in the early viewership report. A...

All3Media’s Objective Consolidating Betty and Triple Brew: The Indies That Make ‘Lingo’ & ‘Wheeler Dealers’ Will Be Replaced By A Single Label
Image
Exclusive: Two well-known UK indies will become one as All3Media’s Objective Media Group consolidates Triple Brew and Betty into a new, as-yet-unnamed single label, Deadline has learned.

The restructure of Objective’s unscripted business means the prodcos’ combined slate, including the likes of The Cube, Lingo, Wheeler Dealers and Bear Grylls series Bear’s Mission With…, will be housed under one roof, with the well-known Betty and Triple Brew labels ceasing to exist. The rejig will mean job losses, we hear.

Objective houses a cluster of indie labels spanning scripted, factual and entertainment. It is one of the UK’s best-known production groups with several bases across the UK and an office in LA. It is owned by All3Media, which is in the throes of being acquired by RedBird Imi in a $1.45B deal.

Quiz and gameshow-focused Triple Brew Media was formed in 2019. It is led by Ben Shephard,...

David Oyelowo in Selma (2014)
Paramount Pictures and Path&#233 today announced that the feature film Selma will have a limited release in the U.S. on Christmas day and will open wide on January 9, 2015. Directed by Ava DuVernay (Middle of Nowhere), the film is being produced by Oprah Winfrey, Plan B, the producers of the Academy Award-winning 12 Years a Slave, and Cloud Eight Films' Academy Award-winning Christian Colson (127 Hours, Slumdog Millionaire).

Ava DuVernay’s Selma To Open December 25; Oprah Winfrey Joins Cast
Paramount Pictures and Pathé today announced that the feature film Selma will have a limited release in the U.S. on Christmas Day and will open wide on January 9, 2015.

The date puts director Ava DuVernay’s (Middle Of Nowhere) film in a prime spot during awards season. Definitely add this one to your calendar.

Selma is the story of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s historic struggle to secure voting rights for all people – a dangerous and terrifying campaign that culminated with the epic march from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama, and led to President Johnson signing the Voting Rights Act of 1965. The film’s release will celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the landmark legislation.

It was also announced that Academy Award nominee Oprah Winfrey has joined the cast as Annie Lee Cooper, an elderly woman and visible leader amongst the civil rights protesters in Selma who tried to register to...

David Oyelowo in Selma (2014)
Oprah Winfrey-produced 'Selma' moves to Christmas just in time for the Oscar game
David Oyelowo in Selma (2014)
I had been sitting back wondering whether Ava DuVernay's "Selma" would be ready in time for this year's upcoming awards season. Paramount already has a couple of things to play with, from Jason Reitman's "Men, Women & Children" to Christopher Nolan's "Interstellar." Well, add another, as DuVernay's film has just been slated for a Christmas Day limited release. The film, which is being produced by Oprah Winfrey and Brad Pitt's Plan B shingle, is still shooting in Atlanta, Georgia and Montgomery and Selma, Alabama, but I guess there is enough faith that the editing will come together in time. It of course tells the story of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s struggle to secure voting rights for all during the heated civil rights movement of the 1960s. This led to President Lyndon Johnson signing the landmark Voting Rights Act of 1965. The film will go wide on Jan.

The 8 Best Game Show Hosts of the 1980s
8. Chuck Woolery ("Wheel of Fortune," "Love Connection," "Scrabble"): Chuck Woolery was the original host of "Wheel of Fortune," but lost the gig to the smarmy wet blanket, Pat Sajack, after a salary dispute. Almost all of Woolery's episodes have been permanently lost, as NBC had a habit of wiping tapes to save money.

Where Is He Now? The man is over 70, so he's not doing much. His most recent show was "Lingo" on Gsn, which ran from 2002-2007. I don't know where it aired, but in 2003, there was also a reality show that tracked Woolery's daily life.

7. Ray Combs: ("Family Feud"): Combs started out as a warm-up act for sitcoms, including "Amen." He had very little experience when he was selected, but Combs was behind the revitalization of the show, after replacing Richard Dawson. However, after six years, Richard Dawson replaced Combs again. Combs last words on "Family Feud,...

Gurin hires pair to broaden range of TV production
Brad Wollack
The Gurin Co. intends to expand the scope of its TV production business by signing first-look development deals with writer-producers Brad Wollack and Chip Butterman. Gurin Co., headed by producer Phil Gurin, is known for producing game shows, including NBC's Weakest Link and Game Show Network's Lingo, but the company is looking to grow its business into other program genres, Gurin said. "Brad's a terrific writer and comic personality in his own right, and Chip's creativity as both a writer and as a talent manager bring complimentary skills to our company," Gurin said. "As we launch into multiple genres across the networks, cable companies and syndicators, it's great having these talented guys contributing to the strength of our bench."...

Woolery game for reality series
Chuck Woolery in Love Connection (1983)
NEW YORK -- Step aside, Ozzy Osbourne: Game show icon Chuck Woolery will be the subject of his own new primetime reality series. Slated to premiere on Game Show Network in the spring, Chuck Woolery: Behind the Lingo will explore the life of the TV veteran, whose credits include Love Connection and Lingo, the word-puzzle game he currently hosts for the cable net. Anyone expecting cable to deliver another controversial reality series will be disappointed, GSN president and Rich Cronin said. "It's more family-friendly than MTV's 'The Osbournes' or '(The) Anna Nicole (Show)' on E!" he said. "Chuck is quirky, not dysfunctional."...
