I remember when Don Knotts was a "man on the street" on the old Steve Allen Show. He was a total wreck who shivered and shook while answering questions (Louis Nye and Tom Poston were the other guys along with Bill Dana). His frenetic behavior made a career for him and he never disappoints, so when he gets a chain letter that threatens him, he goes absolutely bonkers. He starts making bad decisions, but blames them on his not sending the letters on. He blames Andy for all his misfortune because Andy told him to throw the original away. A real Barney episode.
  • Barney's life totally disintegrates because of his reaction to the chain letter. Some amazingly funny scenes. Again (I keep saying it about season 5) some of the series best scenes.

Some uniquely funny interactions between Andy & Barney. Andy asking Opie what he'd do if he were Barney insinuating Barney is childlike in his thinking. Lots of funny Andy psychology bringing dope Goober over to hand deliver the letter, and confronting Barney being a slave to superstition. I like how Barney sent in Opie so he could hurl curse words at the driver Norbert who ran his foot over. Also, some of the series best Floyd lines as he paints a depressing picture to Barney if he doesn't send the letter.

Just a flawless, laugh loaded classic episode from start to finish.
