  • Dhaakad review :

Out of the two Bollywood releases this weekend, I preferred Dhaakad for two main reasons : one is for its pulsating action sequences and second for Kangana Ranaut who has always impressed me as an actor since her debut Gangster (2006). On both the fronts - action and Kangana- Dhaakad met my expectations but sadly, fell woefully short at an overall level.

Don't know whats it with Bollywood but they just dont seem to get their secret agent stuff right. Sriram Raghavan's Agent Vinod (2012) was a royal drag and here, newcomer Razneesh 'Razy' Ghai falters completely with his Agent Agni. Kangana plays the titular character trained since childhood to become a ruthless killer and her latest mission oscillates from the calm streets of Budapest to the noisy coal mines of Madhya Pradesh which is apparently, the hub for human trafficking.

Next, Agni lands in the big bad place and tries to infiltrate the empire of a prostitution kingpin Rohini (Divya Dutta) who partners with the mine lord Rudraveer (Arjun Rampal) in this flesh business whose clients extend right upto some Sheikh in Budapest, no less. Before that, we get to see a black and white montage of quite too young Rudra and Rohini sweating it out in bed before beginning their illicit collaboration.

To be fair, the action sequences are superbly executed almost giving you a Hollywood movie feel. Charlie's Angels (2000) and Kill Bill (2003) are its obvious influence. The spectacular cinematography as well as the zany background score deserve a special mention as well. Razy Ghai's vision is clearly international but his script is rooted in 80's Bollywood. Especially that personal vendetta angle which creeps up and occupies most of the time post interval. C'mon dude, why do agents really need that?? Bond or Bourne never fought to avenge their pitaji's death, did they??!!!

Of the cast, Divya Dutta is super in a negative role. The brilliant actor that she is, Divya truly elevates Rohini to a different level altogether. Kudos! Arjun Rampal is also impressive as Rudraveer. Note the dining table scene where he plays a game of Russian roulette with a small girl.

As for Kangana Ranaut, her hard work and painstaking effort is visible in each and every action sequence. She is indeed marvellous as Agent Agni and this one had a franchise potential. Unfortunately, the insipid plot and an illogical climax defies it that!! Going by the zilch turnout at the Cinepolis Thane multiplex on a Sunday morning show, Dhaakad has no chance, whatsoever. Sorry Kangana!

    Regards, Sumeet Nadkarni.
  • I was super excited about this movie; a film featuring a femme fatale similar to Atomic Blonde, Salt and such. But I have come to understand that having such expectations is only going to disappoint me more. Dhaakad falls short by a lot.

Agent Agni has had a traumatic past. But she has channeled that trauma and anger into becoming one of the most ruthless spies ever. She is tasked to track down a dangerous human trafficker; her toughest challenge till date.

Kangana Ranaut is by far one of the most talented actors we have today. She has portrayed a variety of characters; each different from the next. But none of these have been successful despite the actor receiving praise for her performances. Dhaakad is no different. She is stellar in her first action film. She pulls it off with such panache! The action set pieces are well choreographed albeit a little violent. Arjun Rampal is menacing but his accent is off. Divya Dutta is excellent and so is Saswata Chatterjee.

Dhaakad could have been much better. It could have been our Atomic Blonde or so. But the plot is predictable and plods along for most part. The melodrama and emotional scenes just make it worse. But hats off to Kangana and Divya Dutta; the dhaakad duo of the film!
  • Action sequences were fine and Kangana does a good job at them. But besides that it's really average. Storyline is very very weak and Kangana never comes across a tough agent something like Jason Bourne she was trying to portray. A Emotionally hollow movie where we don't connect with the lead character at all. Good effort though. If there's a second part then we hope it improves.
  • Warning: Spoilers
No Story At All, Only Action, But That Was Aslo Copied, Very Very Poor Acting, Even A Common Person Can Act Better Than Her.

Worst Watching, Simply Waste Of Money.
  • My earlier review which got more than 1000 likes got deleted by the star cast n makers of this movie.

That means some fellas are burning n they cannot digest opinions.

Then again my reviews got deleted multiple times.

This is the list of the movies from which Dhaakad copied: Naked Weapon, Columbiana, The Long Kiss Goodnight, Elektra, Salt, Red Sparrow, Underworld, Atomic Blonde, Mr n Mrs Smith, Kill Bill, Hanna, Gunpowder Milkshake, Sucker Punch, The Protege, Kate, The Old Guard, Anna, Black Widow, Ava, Nikita, Haywire, Point of no Return, Proud Mary, The Villainess, Everly, Kite, Stiletto, Cat Run, Lara Croft, etc.

The lead actress' body in this movie is a proof that she hasn't done weight lifting exercises.

The hand to hand combat looks fake n the worst is the sword fight scene.

The lead actress' chubby cheeks is a proof that she hasn't done any vigorous or intense training.
  • Dhaakad is not so much a film as it is a series of embarrassments lasting over two hours. In an Indian film scenario that rarely gives women actors central roles in action flicks, the unwavering focus on Ranaut in Dhaakad should ideally have been a happy development. How though can one celebrate vacuous writing, dull direction and a boring result.

There's also a scene in which we are told that Agni has a rare congenital condition (one that does indeed exist in the real world - I checked) in which her heart tilts towards the right of her chest, unlike most human beings whose hearts lean to the left. I don't know if this was meant as a joke - but I know for sure the scene's concept is purely copied from 2009 film Ninja Assassin.

Given all this, the reference in the closing song is laughable, because even the worst of Tarantino is better than the most tolerable parts of Dhaakad and its insipid heroine.
  • Warning: Spoilers
A wannabe action movie with scenes copied from around the world! The hand to hand combat looks fake n the lead actress looks physically unfit and unnatural to play the said role. That sword fight scene is the worst.

The writing is bad, the screenplay is the biggest minus. That's 2:30 hours of my life I will never get back. Doesn't even deserve a theatrical experience. NOT AT ALL RECOMMENDED. AVOID!!
  • Not at all worth watching. Kangana tries to overdo all the time and grabs major screen time. Copying good old Hollywood movies and other movies has been going on for years. I do not know how they find the previews acceptable and go ahead with releasing without making any change.

Just waste of time. Lesser said better it is.
  • So Jaa re So Jaa re..... unbearable no Story nothing waste of time money. Avoid Koi Jarurat nahi is bakwaaaas ko 2hr jehlne ki...........................................................
  • It's very great action movie from an actress I don't expect such movie from bollywoods woman actress This movies is really great and amazing Watch it and enjoy.

That's 2:30 hours of my life I will never get back. Flavourless cocktail of so many Hollywood and Bollywood movies, mixed and mashed togeheter. The trailer was okay, but the film is nothing like that - it completely deceives us. Surprisingly Kangana Ranaut hasn't done a good job here at all. She overacts throughout the film. Arjun Rampal, Divya Dutta and Sharib Hashmi are the saving graces of this picture, action is okayish - but otherwise Kangana, cinematography, story, dialogues, music, background score, direction, VFX - everything sucks. The high budget of 150-200 crore doesn't even get shown here, it seems the movie is made of 2-3 crore rupees only. NOT AT ALL RECOMMENDED.

One time watch, new concept in Bollywood, nice to watch lady centric action movie. There has been only a few scopes to i.prove otherwise overall itsba genuine time pass.
  • Brilliant Action Brilliant direction Brilliant performance Mediocre story And perfect casting Arguably most cinematic action movie of bollywood.

Kangana was great but Arjun's character was the main highlight.

Good to watch if action thriller are your genré.
  • Very poor story in this film. They trying to copy Hollywood movie but actually looking like copy of a action game. It's much boring than playing an action game on game pad or mobile. Watching this movie is a totally waste of money. Watching the entire movie is no less than a torture and in reality there is no any point to watch this movie by wasting time and hard earned money 💰
  • Just a waste of time. Divya Dutta and Arjun Ramal did nice job, Kangana is weak as usual in acting, I am surprised she call tapsee pannu as her sasti copy. Taapse pannu is a much better and versatile actress compared to Kangana.
  • It's a wannabe black widow movie with no background, they should refund the money for such movie. You can watch the movie of you want to ruin your day.
  • Full non logical storyline, total waste of time and money. Producer should reimburse viewers. When I saw only 3 people apart from me inside the hall, I knew I have wasted my money.
  • Omg one of the worst movie of Kangana.. seriously why would u do such film.

It is Bollywood's first ever spy action drama led by a female agent, and that's all there is to remember about it. Yes, there is nothing else in the film that can please you or is worth your money.

Kangana is truly Dhaakad as agent #Agni. She carries many looks in the film and looks apt in every look. Arjun rampal starts off on a high note, but then fails to keep the impact unremitting. Again, the same issue of the accent and portentous writing plays spoilsport. The second lady, DivyaDutta, also goes on giving a forgettable act when the expectations from an actress of her calibre were higher.

Dhaakad is destroyed by its writing and screenwriting, but there is one thing that is pleasant and noteworthy about it - the action. It could have made a decent film out of its weak script, but then it succumbed to #RazneeshRazyGhai's poor vision.
  • So much money spent by a crazy producer to make a nonsense movie and to try to prove that the big mouth Kangana can also do big action.

Result is that we see a senseless script, toothless story and gory violence that makes no sense.

This Dhaakad has been reduced to stale non-crunchy papad.

Just avoid and eat some real crunchy papad instead.
  • Bollywood really needs to check on what it is producing. Things are bad with even worse films like dhakkad coming on screen. What are they even expecting..... Don't waste your money and time.
  • This movie is definitely not an 10/10 and has its issues but it is definitely not a bad movie. The negative reviews are definitely biased and feels more political than the actual ones.
  • I was watching this movie with my friends and all of us were so bored that we had to leave it in between, firstly i thought I'm only the one who is bored but i was wrong 😂😂😂 max of the people in cinema hall were bored and 70% of the people left the hall in between the movie.... Worst ever and breaking record of the movie ( Sadak) 😂😂 never expected this from kangana.... So guys better not to waste ur money and time on this movie better go for other movies.... Or of still interested in watching this movie firstly try it on ur phone then think of going in cinema just an advice.
  • In this movie you will never get bored.... Kangana and her acting was flawless...Arjun rampal was also good...If you love action movie this movie is a must watch...Vfx is also good...Matching hollywood level....
  • I was always fearing that Dhaakad, having shown off an impressive trailer, might just fail in the main product solely because I have no clue who the director is and his previous work. Same thing happened about 10 years ago, when the trailer of the Saif Ali Khan film "Agent Vinod" released and had promised terrific action scenes and was promoted as Indian James Bond but sadly it tanked miserably due to poor storyline. Dhaakad nearly falls in that "Agent Vinod" category.

My fears nearly came true. The story is not bad. It's just plain ordinary and predictable. The makers completely focused on the action (I'll talk about it soon) hence decided not to invest in the story. Dude, this is what Vidyut Jammwal makes mistake in, taking part in action heavy film with weak story and Kangana now falls prey to it.

Not only is the story ordinary, but certain technical things are also flawed. Abrupt sequence changes , for example, Kangana training in a forest and the very next moment she lands up in Budapest . There should be a proper transition na. Overuse of the song "So jaa..." becomes irritating really ....Was that song made to send chills down our spines? Yes. Did it succeed? No. Then what did it do instead? Made veiwers start to fall asleep instead.

Coming to action. Terrific choreography. South, take note, the action in this film means serious business while the ones we witness in south films (wont name them cuz you know, it will hurt the ego of south fans lol) is just outright hilarious so please, no arguments there. The action sequence just after interval is the highlight of this film. The climax hand to hand combat is a treat to watch. Imagine south recreating it, the villian would go flying in the air and bouncing up again in slow mo as the hero beats him up, lol!! Full marks to Dhaakad for the action.

Kangana, Arjun have given their heart and soul in this film. Both do a terrific job in carrying forward an ordinary story. Saswata is good too although he has a really forced twist at the end which I didn't like. Divya Dutta is good too. Sharib is wasted as a caricaturish JK of Family man.

Overall, this film isn't as good as i expected nor is it as bad as straight 1 star reviewers says. In fact, you shouldn't even read those 1 star reviews because the film does have a fair share of positives too. 5 stars for action + performance. 2 extra star for coming up with a film with a women action lead where the action is of the level which Normally we see the male dominate. Thank you for breaking the shackles and allowing more filmmakers to think of action products with female leads and Dhaakad's ordinary story should allow filmmakers to take as a lesson to invest on story as well.
