A wonderful, unusual comedy, brilliantly directed and performed. A beautiful photograph of a moment in the lives of the three characters, the film has all the energy that a short film should have.

    David

The feeling you see Will Ferrel sitting there as a dead serious shrink and know that he would explode at any second. You love to see it.

A weird and funny triangle which turns to be surprising. A film about family relationships which take too much space, between a father and his son.
  • Will Ferrell stays true to form finding humour from material he is given. Playing a therapist, his son David interrupts a life threatening session of one of his patients as work and home life comes to a head! Such a simple plot packed with stomach belching laughs, the cast (Fred Hechinger and William Jackson Harper) don't miss a beat in the delivery of this tales punchlines.
  • DAVID starts as a dark comedy and gradually grows as an exploration of an ordinary(-ish) father-and-son relationship that will questions about what we need in our life. In his first directorial debut, Zach Woods has proven himself to be a director to watch. And with strong performances from all cast, this is definitely a joy to watch.
  • It's fun to see Will Ferrel go a little darker in this short film with a role custom built just for him. I love that there are two characters named David and they both need help. All in all, a memorable dramedy short.
  • I think people do not realise how hard it is to tell a story in 10 minutes.

    This is a short film.

It is not a video, it is not a segment, it is a full on film.

And it is done in 10 minutes. Fantastic writing.
  • I am far to be a fan of Will Ferrel. But this film, in my case, change more about my opinion about him. Because not only he gives a beautiful job but it propose a brilliant portrait of the large halls of tension in fine silence moments. A shrink, his pacient, his boy , frustrated by the absence of the father from his significant wrestling match. Easy, you say the spoiled young man, the vulnerable pacient, the father in difficult/delicate situation. But you know be much more. At the end, you feel this short film being about yourself, from options to duties and the schedule defining you, priority by priority.
  • Story pulls you right in and the characters don't let you go as the actors certainly delivered.
  • A great comedy with a surprising twist and perfect character development, a must watch!
  • Funny, witty scriptwritting makes this piece take a serious matter and shine light on different perspectives of one situation. The cinematography feels natural and fits the comedic theme of the narrative (things like whips of the camera between actors whilst the narrative is progressing).

Bringing in the big names of Will Ferrell and William Jackson Harper - talent who have made their reputation in comedy further adds to the authenticity and the light-hearted approach that this short film brings.

Overall, a very sophisticated, yet comedic piece.
  • Great storytelling and characters in an unexpected and surrealistic situation.

The film is a deep dive into our human natury and a film that makes you think, at the same time its a parody of a tough conversation, with great humour and genius manuscript.

People dont understand how hard it is to tell a story in 10 minutes.

It deserves so much! It deserves very much its price in Cannes!

  • Come on, what's with all the high ratings; it was decent! It received a whopping 29 nominations, but only 2 wins, that tells your right there it's not a 10/10 film!
