Another strong episode with great chemistry between the leading characters, humour and music.
There is a different look and feel to this second series. You just consider it to be it's own show then it mentions "Tyler" to remind you of the show's DNA.
Far better than it was at this stage in the first series. A great reward for those that have stuck with it.

More and more 'Ashes' is stepping out of the ashes (pardon the pun) of 'Life on Mars' and standing tall as a show in its own right.
This is another very strong episode, that's perhaps a bit darker in tone due to the police corruption story line that appears to be running through the series as a whole.
That doesn't mean to say though that there isn't more than enough laugh out loud moments from Gene Hunt and the gang because there is, as well as the Gene/Alex flirtation bubbling in the background.

Sleepin_Dragon9 August 2015Really unusual start to this episode, the team are tracking a car, where the driver seems out of control, Gene tries following the car which comes off the road and crashes into a Gypsy site. Instantly the team have an unease with the gypsies. A definite conspiracy seems to be going on between Gene and Mack, is it real or not? You really get a sense of growing mistrust between Gene and Alex. There is a wonderful part when Paola Dionisotti does a tarot reading for Alex, really well acted scene. The episode has a definite masonic feel to it, and Gene's initiation is intriguing. A satisfying ending, with more intrigue from the man who knows more about Alex's situation, very very good episode, which ends with a classic 80s tune A flock of Seagulls, Wishing. The series continues to feel more grown up somehow then the first series.
