Stars: Douglas Smith, Kimberly-Sue Murray, Carrie-Anne Moss, Frank Grillo, Jonathan Cherry | Written and Directed by Lowell Dean
Die Alone is the most recent film from Saskatchewan-based filmmaker Lowell Dean. If you’ve heard of him, it’s probably because of the over-the-top genre comedies WolfCop and Another WolfCop. But he’s done several other films, including the zombie film 13 Eerie and the post-apocalyptic action film SuperGrid, which I was lucky enough to catch along with a Q&a session with him at the Saskatoon Fantastic Film Festival a few years back.
Both zombies and a post-apocalyptic setting return in Die Alone, but it’s not a typical tale of the zombie apocalypse, although that isn’t easy to tell from the opening scenes. Ethan and his girlfriend Emma were heading to his cabin when their car crashed. Ethan wakes up to find Emma and most of his memories, are missing.

I hope Jamie Campbell Bower and Eddie Marsan have enough room in their bellies for a second-breakfast because they’re joining the cast of Prime Video’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 3. Bower, who plays the Freddy Krueger-like villain Henry Creel/Vecna in Netflix’s Stranger Things, boards the show as a series regular, while Marsan will recur in new episodes of the big-budget fantasy series.
Details about their respective roles are scarce. However, the scoopers at Deadline hear that Bower plays a significant role in upcoming events as a “handsome high-born knight (code name Arlen). He may play a new love interest for Galadriel (Morfydd Clark), who, after the events of Season 2, continues to grapple with the fact that her previous love, Hallbrand (Charlie Vickers), is Sauron. Woof.

Middle-earth just gained two more inhabitants.
Jamie Campbell Bower and Eddie Marsan have joined the cast of “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” for the Amazon Prime Video series’ upcoming third season.
Bower will be a series regular, while Marsan will appear in a recurring role. The season is currently in pre-production and will begin filming this spring at Shepperton Studios in the U.K.
Bower is perhaps best known for playing the villain Henry Creel/Vecna in Netflix’s “Stranger Things.” He also played Mick Jagger in “Urban Myths: Mick & Margaret,” Christopher Marlow in “Will,” King Arthur in “Camelot,” the voice of Skiff in “Thomas & Friends” and 11-12 in the remake of “The Prisoner” alongside Sir Ian McKellen.
He made his film debut in Tim Burton’s “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street” opposite Johnny Depp, Alan Rickman and Helena Bonham Carter. He...

This is a match made in genre heaven — Jamie Campbell Bower, star of Netflix’s blockbuster supernatural drama Stranger Things, is joining one of biggest fantasy franchises of all time. Bower has been tapped as a series regular for the upcoming third season of Prime Video’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. Additionally, Ray Donovan alum Eddie Marsan is set to recur on the new season, which is currently in pre-production.
As usual, details about the role are being kept under wraps but I hear Bower plays Rings of Power’s biggest new cast addition, a character described as a handsome high-born knight (code name Arlen) in casting information that has been circulated around. He could be a new love interest for Galadriel (Morfydd Clark) who spent the second season facing the reality of her Season 1 love interest Halbrand’s (Charlie Vickers) true identity as arch-villain Sauron.

Premiering last year at Tribeca Festival, just before he was seen in Kevin Costner’s Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1, Michael Angarano’s second directorial feature Sacramento brought together the impressive cast of Michael Cera, Kristen Stewart, and Maya Erskine, along with the actor-director-writer-producer himself. Picked up by Vertical, who will release the drama theatrically on April 11, they’ve now debuted the first trailer.
Here’s the synopsis: “Following the death of his father, energetic and free-spirited Rickey (Michael Angarano) convinces long-time friend Glenn (Michael Cera) to go on an impromptu road trip from Los Angeles to Sacramento. Frustrated by Rickey’s Peter Pan complex, Glenn is encouraged by his pregnant wife Rosie (Kristen Stewart) to go on the adventure to reconnect. In the worn yellow seats of Glenn’s old college convertible, the two men confront their anxiety-ridden lives, addressing past mistakes and questioning what their futures hold.

"Tombstone," from 1993, is the Wyatt Earp movie most people remember from the '90s, but it's hardly the only star-studded spectacle about the legendary marshal. A year later, "Wyatt Earp" came out, reuniting actor Kevin Costner with filmmaker Lawrence Kasdan, the director who first made him a charismatic cowboy in 1985's "Silverado." A love of the old west clearly stuck with Costner, who made his directorial debut with "Dances With Wolves," an epic about a Union Army Lieutenant (Costner) who goes native. If you haven't seen it, you've probably at least heard the plot of "Avatar" compared (unfavorably) to it. It won seven Oscars, including Best Picture and another for Costner as Best Director.
Covering more of Earp's life than just the famous gunfight at the O.K. Corral, "Wyatt Earp" came loaded with actors both familiar and new, as one would expect of an old Hollywood epic biopic. It...

If you're ever fortunate enough to interview a great filmmaker, or simply find yourself occupying the same space as one and want to make the moment meaningful before it passes, you'll always get a genuine answer when you ask them to name the movie that made them fall in love with the medium. This may not be true in years to come, when creators who grew up during the downtick in theatrical exhibition and the explosion of TikTok craft art meant to be digested in 30-second morsels on your smartphone, but right now it is a near certainty that your favorite director got bit by the cinema bug while sitting in a darkened theater — and that's a memory they can access as fast as their first kiss (do not ask them about that).

A couple of years earlier, Kevin Costner was the revered cowboy character John Dutton, whom everyone seemed to love. However, Costner seems to have lost his footing in the Old West. With his Yellowstone exit and the disastrous outcome of the first part of his passion project Horizon, Costner has fallen far as an actor and filmmaker.

After spending three weeks at No. 1 on Nielsen’s overall streaming viewership chart, Netflix’s Squid Game has relinquished its crown.
Netflix’s Jamie Foxx-Cameron Diaz thriller Back In Action landed the top spot this week with 1.5 billion minutes viewed, Nielsen said in its weekly update on Thursday. Squid Game fell to No. 4 on the overall streaming chart with 1.25 billion minutes viewed during the Jan. 13-Jan. 19 frame, the most recent week in the data firm’s tally.
Meanwhile, Billy Bob Thornton-starrer Landman kept up its run with 1.05 billion minutes of viewing and represents the only Paramount+ show outside of library title Dexter to chart in the top 5 for this week on either the TV or movies charts.
Speaking of Western-influenced shows, Peter Berg’s American Primeval, which was the top premiere on the streaming chart last week, rose to No. 2 on the overall chart with 1.41 billion minutes viewed.

The film version of John Krasinski’s Jack Ryan is shaping up. It was reported late last year that Sienna Miller will star alongside the former star of The Office in the upcoming film adaptation, which is in development at Amazon MGM Studios. Now, Deadline is reporting that four more actors have joined the Tom Clancy-inspired thriller.
Max Beesley, Douglas Hodge, JJ Feild and Betty Gabriel have all joined Jack Ryan along with Miller. Gabriel is also a former cast member who appeared in the third and fourth seasons of the series. Amazon will be producing in association with Paramount Pictures and Skydance. Additionally, Krasinski and Allyson Seeger are producing via their Sunday Night production, and Andrew Form is also on board this project as a producer.

Being a pioneer is a long, tough road. That's the theme of Kevin Costner's "Horizon: An American Saga" both on and off the silver screen, as the filmmaker's epic passion project concerning an ensemble of characters in the Old West struggling over a piece of untamed land continues to run into all sorts of obstacles in the real world. Chief among those obstacles is the question of any sort of release: after "Horizon: An American Saga — Chapter 1" was released in theaters on June 28th of 2024, it struggled to even get close to making its $50 million budget back at the box office, earning just $38.7 million. That figure, combined with the film's tepid critical reception, caused New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. to revamp its original plan to release "Chapter 2" of the saga on August 16th of last year, postponing the release seemingly indefinitely. This fate seems to be a current (and troubling) trend,...

The Santa Barbara International Film Festival landed a major win for its 40th anniversary with the U.S. premiere of Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 2 on February 7. It was a big moment for Kevin Costner, who first introduced his ambitious four-part Western in Venice last September.
After the screening, festival director Roger Durling led a conversation with Costner, costume designer Lisa Lovaas, and composer John Debney.
Costner shared what inspired him to bring this story to life, highlighting the myths and harsh realities of westward expansion. ‘People believed if they could just cross that ocean, they’d find paradise. But if you were tough enough, you could just take it,’ he said.
He didn’t shy away from the darker side of that history, adding, ‘That dream was a nightmare for the Native Americans who had been here for 15,000 years. This land was fought over from one coast to the other,...

Squid Game dominated the streaming charts, though it cooled off a good amount in its third week at No. 1. Landman also peaked following its season finale, and American Primeval had a strong debut.
For the week of Jan. 6-12, Squid Game racked up 2.37 billion minutes of viewing on Netflix, according to Nielsen’s streaming ratings. That’s down by about 48 percent from the previous week — but still almost a billion minutes clear of Landman in second place. Since the Dec. 26 premiere of season two, Squid Game has totaled 11.88 billion minutes of watch time in the United States.
As for Landman, its 1.38 billion minutes for the week leading into its Jan. 12 season finale continued the Paramount+ drama’s streak of improving every week it’s been on. It grew from 1.3 billion minutes a week earlier.
American Primeval, a western from Peter Berg, was the top premiere of the week with 1.25 billion viewing minutes on Netflix.

Kevin Costner’s Horizon: An American Saga is now a big streaming hit – but there’s still no sign of a proper release for Chapter 2.
As much as co-writer, star and director Kevin Costner originally envisioned his four-film western Horizon as a saga – it is called Horizon: An American Saga, after all – the on screen drama is being rivalled by the battle to get the next film seen.
Costner has completed two of the four films thus far, and shot around nine minutes of Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 3. But when the first film didn’t earn big bucks at the box office last summer, Warner Bros pulled the theatrical release of Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 2. A delay, we were told. Here we are, some six months after the film was supposed to be release, and there’s no sign of it on cinema release lists.

Paramount+’s Landman continued its upward trajectory in the first few days of 2025, hitting its best viewing-time mark so far in Nielsen’s streaming rankings. Squid Game had a second straight huge week for Netflix as well.
The Korean hit drew just under 4.6 billion minutes of viewing in the United States for the week of Dec. 30-Jan. 5, topping the 4 billion mark again a week after its season two premiere. The series fell by less than 7 percent week-to-week from the 4.92 billion minutes it had for its long-awaited return.
Landman snagged 1.3 billion minutes of watch time in the week leading up to its ninth episode. The Taylor Sheridan series, starring Billy Bob Thornton, has improved its totals in every week since it first hit the rankings in late November.
Two other shows also reached a billion minutes to open the year: Virgin River came in at 1.39 billion for Netflix, and Missing You...

Kevin Costner is returning to Fox Nation.
The actor has set a new three-episode docuseries at the Fox News-owned streaming platform, something of a sequel to his 2022 project Yellowstone One Fifty.
The new series is called Yellowstone to Yosemite with Kevin Costner, and will see the Oscar winner retrace the 1903 Yosemite expedition of Teddy Roosevelt and environmental advocate John Muir through the American west.
The first episode debuts Feb. 8, and will kick off what Fox Nation is calling its “America 250” campaign, which will celebrate the 250th anniversary of the country next year.
“Once in a while, you come across a story that has that truly special mix of elements; it’s stranger than fiction and happens against all odds. It results in something that legitimately changes the world for the good and, most importantly, it all really happened,” Costner said in a statement. “The story of President Teddy Roosevelt...

In February 7, the Santa Barbara International Film Festival (Sbiff) will host the U.S. premiere of Kevin Costner’s grandiose western epic, Horizon: An American Saga — Chapter 2.
The movie will be shown at the Arlington Theatre at 6 p.m., after Horizon: An American Saga — Chapter 1 was shown there earlier in the day at 2 p.m. for free.
Santa Barbara – Details About The Santa Barbara Film Screening
This dual screening mirrors the approach taken at the Venice Film Festival last summer, where Chapter 2 had its world premiere. Venice Festival director Alberto Barbera had described the event as “a heartfelt and respectful tribute to the visionary project of a great actor and director.”
Costner, in turn, expressed gratitude for the opportunity, stating, “The fact that now they have decided to show Chapter 1 earlier in the day and then the world premiere of Chapter 2 that evening shows not only their belief in how...

After the success of This is Us for NBC, it was undeniable that showrunner Dan Fogelman would have carte blanche on his next series. Taking another swing with his superstar collaborator, Sterling K. Brown, Fogelman hopes to repeat that success with Paradise. The new Hulu drama lands with mystery and Rated R content, giving Fogelman’s writing team more wiggle room than his last project. However, while Brown and the cast around him elevate their material, there’s a hollowness the show never fully overcomes.
Paradise Plot
After a shooter tries to kill the President (James Marsden), Secret Service agent Xavier Collins (Brown) is read in on national secrets. Afterward, the President is murdered in cold blood. Collins and the other secret service agents try to investigate the assassination, but they’re thwarted at every turn. Meanwhile, billionaires led by “Sinatra” (Julianne Nicholson) continue covert actions. As the mystery begins to unspool,...

Kevin Costner’s Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 2 is to get its American premiere at last, nearly six months after its planned release.
Ah-ha! Now this feels like progress. Since the release of Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1 last summer, co-writer/star/director Kevin Costner’s passion project. The first of four planned films, it didn’t set the box office alight, and the planned release of the already-completed Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 2 was mothballed.

On Feb. 7, Sbiff will screen the first film at 2 p.m., right before the second at 6 p.m., at the Arlington Theatre. Yellowstone star Kevin Costner finalized his divorce from his second wife, Christine Baumgartner, last February after 18 years of marriage. Having just turned 70, Costner says he hasn’t been looking for a new lover for his new decade.
Despite recent reports linking him to Jennifer Lopez, a source close to the actor told People that he is “in a good place and having fun with his family and friends.” However, in recent months, Costner has been linked to various female celebrities, including Sharon Stone, Jewel and January Jones.
Costner feels comfortable staying on the market without being tied down romantically. “He is not seriously involved with anyone and not necessarily looking for anything more than that right now,” the insider said. “Kevin is cool, real, and in some ways old-school in his thinking. He has a lot of interests and loves being busy when he is in that mode.”

At the outset of 1987, Kevin Costner was best known as the cocky gunslinger Jake in Lawrence Kasdan's Western romp "Silverado." This was a make-good role from the director, who'd cut Costner out of "The Big Chill" because his portrayal of the deceased Alex didn't play well with test audiences; basically, the ensemble cast had done such a great job of building up Alex's significance that the then unknown Costner couldn't live up to the legend. And while it was a nice gesture on Kasdan's part, "Silverado" didn't quite catch fire at the box office in the summer of 1985.
So when Costner landed the plum role of Eliot Ness in Brian De Palma's 1987 gangster saga "The Untouchables," Paramount Pictures mounted a publicity offensive to sell the appealing 32-year-old actor as a major movie star who'd at long last arrived. Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 2 gets a hopeful release update from Isabelle Fuhrman. The sequel to Kevin Costner's series of epic Western films was originally slated to release on August 16, 2024, before Warner Bros. pulled it from the release calendar. After debuting at the Venice International Film Festival, Horizon: Chapter 2's reviews have been largely negative, which does not bode well after the first movie's poor box office performance and lackluster reception.
While speaking with ScreenRant about her new film Wish You Were Here, Fuhrman shared that she believes Horizon: Chapter 2 will be released soon. She clarified that she has not been told of a confirmed release date and that actors often are not told about such information in advance. Fuhrman also emphasized how meaningful it was to see Horizon: Chapter 2 at the Venice Film Festival alongside an audience and expressed her enthusiasm for the movie's upcoming release.

Kevin Costner seems to have lost his footing in the Old West. With his Yellowstone exit and the disastrous outcome of the first part of his passion project Horizon, Costner has fallen far as an actor and filmmaker. A couple of years earlier, he was the revered cowboy character John Dutton, whom everyone seemed to love.

After initially joining Taylor Sheridan’s Western series with prequel 1923, Helen Mirren is set to reprise her role as Cara Dutton in the upcoming second and final season of the show.
While her performance has earned widespread acclaim, the circumstances surrounding her casting raise concerns about Sheridan’s unconventional approach, especially in light of the rift between him and Kevin Costner.

Following his exit from Yellowstone, Kevin Costner moved on to a different Western project, which premiered in 2024 but is now available on streaming. Costner starred as John Dutton III in the first four and a half seasons of Taylor Sheridan's popular TV show. However, in between parts 1 and 2 of Yellowstone season 5, news broke that the actor was leaving the series. Given that Costner's John was the face of the neo-Western drama, his exit came as a big surprise to many.
Taylor Sheridan's upcoming Yellowstone spinoffs and prequels include 1923 season 2, The Madison, 6666, 1944, and an untitled Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler sequel series.
In the months following the announcement of Costner's Yellowstone exit, more details regarding why he left emerged. However, many were also concerned with how Sheridan would write John out of the series. The Yellowstone season 5, part 2 premiere revealed John's fate, and the show was never the same.

Ever think the way movies are made has gotten a little…well, safe? Kevin Costner sure does. And when the actor known for his versatile roles and iconic performances speaks up about Hollywood’s recent choices, you can bet it’s worth listening.

There’s something almost poetic about Costner’s view on the state of cinema. He’s not just an actor; he’s a storyteller who’s seen it all—decades in the business and a deep connection to the craft. But behind his usual stoic exterior lies a man who isn’t afraid to speak the truth, even if it involves a cheeky revelation. Speaking of cheeks, there’s a rather amusing tale involving Costner and his bare bottom.

The world’s largest streaming service has a comfortingly consistent ad experience across its library.

Costner's most recent movie endeavor, Horizon, is said to be a project he's been working on for decades.

“The Substance” (Mubi) and “Flow” (Janus/Sideshow), two very independent specialized releases, add to their theatrical and awards successes with strong interest on home viewing.
“Wicked” (Universal), expecting even greater recognition repeats as #1 at both iTunes (ranking by transactions) and Fandango (by revenue) in its second week out. The studio, which like others rarely announces home video returns, said its first week out had $70 million in rentals and sales. They get 80 percent of this after a small carriage fee deduction, a much higher return than in theaters. This buttresses the claim of how vital PVOD is, even if its often early streaming release seems to intrude on theatrical play.
Netflix, meanwhile, underwent a wholesale turnover this week, with only three films listed last week still on their top 10. “Ad Vitam,” an original French thriller in the Liam Neeson-mold that follows a lone avenger saving a family member in danger,...

Prior to 1985, Kevin Costner was probably best known in Hollywood, to the extent that he was known at all, as the corpse of Alex Marshall in Lawrence Kasdan's Baby Boomer drama "The Big Chill." Alex is the friend whose death occasions the gathering of the University of Michigan alums, and whose presence is felt rather than seen. This was not initially by design. Costner's Alex was supposed to appear in flashback, but was completely cut out of the movie by Kasdan when test audiences reacted poorly to meeting the character after ninety-odd minutes of build-up.
When 1985 rolled around, Costner had two films sitting on the shelf, a Canadian crime drama called "The Gunrunner" and Kevin Reynolds' college friendship comedy "Fandango." The former was lousy and would sit on the shelf until 1989, while the latter was a charming misfire that, because it had been disowned by producer Steven Spielberg, was dumped into U.

1923 season 2 will be the end of the Yellowstone prequel, and here's what it means for Taylor Sheridan's Yellowstone franchise. Premiering February 23 on Paramount+, 1923 season 2 continues the saga of Jacob Dutton (Harrison Ford) and Cara Dutton (Helen Mirren) defending their Montana ranch from adversaries keen on taking their land. Meanwhile, Spencer Dutton (Brandon Sklenar) hurries home from Africa to help his family wage war, despite being separated from his new English bride, Alexandra (Julia Schlaepfer).
Yellowstone, Taylor Sheridan's present-day-set neo-Western starring Kevin Costner as John Dutton III, became one of the biggest shows on television throughout its five seasons on the Paramount Network. Yellowstone's success spawned a franchise detailing the history of the Dutton clan in Montana, starting with the prequel 1883, which streamed on Paramount+ for one season. 1923 picks up the Duttons' story 40 years later. Yellowstone also sparked a growing franchise of TV shows on Paramount+ executive produced by Taylor Sheridan,...
