Kevin Costner's "Yellowstone" exit ahead of season 5 part 2 is still a topic of conversation, even though many of the details surrounding it are still unclear. The rumors claim that he left following a behind-the-scenes fallout with creator Taylor Sheridan and a desire to focus on his "Horizon: An American Saga" project. Whatever the reason, though, Costner's departure resulted in a breakdown in communication with co-star Luke Grimes, who revealed his surprising reaction to the drama.
Grimes has discussed Costner's "Yellowstone" exit in the past, noting that he understands why the John Dutton actor left the series. While speaking to Esquire, however, Grimes revealed that Costner's absence from the set made season 5's final episodes easier to shoot:
"Hopefully everyone can see that it was time ... To be really honest, there was a part of Kevin being gone that meant some of the conflict was gone. Obviously, it didn't make...

Stories about survivors in a post-apocalyptic world continue to fascinate viewers in such streaming series as “Fallout” and “The Last of Us,” but “Homestead” likely marks the first time such a scenario has been used for a faith-based movie. And it definitely is the first time a theatrical film in that genre has been designed as the pilot for a TV series — a fact that, when it becomes clear in the movie’s final minutes, may strike many viewers as a bait-and-switch trick.
Indeed, the TV series gets what can only be described as emphatic promotion in those final minutes, complete with a kinda-sorta coming attraction trailer (not entirely unlike the one Kevin Costner employed at the end of “Horizon: An American Saga — Chapter 1”). One of the lead actors appears on camera to directly address audiences about what lies ahead, along with an on-screen Qr code that the audience can...

After over a year hiatus, Yellowstone Season 5 Part 2 will land in November later this year.

And they’re off.
Awards season just got entirely official with the revealing of shortlists for the 97th Oscars in 10 categories today. See the lists from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences below.
Fifteen movies each are moving forward in the contests for International Feature Film, Documentary Feature, Original Song, Music Score and Documentary, Animated and Live Action Shorts. Ten films each also advanced in the categories of Sound, Visual Effects and Makeup & Hairstyling.
Celebrating the Oscar shortlists the most today undoubtedly is Emilia Pérez with a towering six mentions, missing only from the Visual Effects list of possible inclusion, though that would have been a longshot. This sets up a possible huge showing for Jacques Audiard’s film, which could also land two Best Song nominations, the only film to have a pair among the finalists.

Yellowstone, the perpetually snubbed by the Emmys frontier drama, aired its likely final episode on Monday night, to 11.4 million same-day viewers. The fifth and final season was split in two, and the big conclusion was a 4% increase over the last episode in season “5A.”
While these numbers are nothing compared to finale records of past generations—the 1983 conclusion of M*A*S*H had 106 million viewers in the United States alone—take a moment to consider that this means, in the age of streaming and apps and TikTok and whatnot, that 11.4 million television sets were tuned, at the same time, to Paramount Network or CMT.
The season 5B premiere in November, the first episode following the departure of Oscar and Emmy-winner Kevin Costner, carried a whopping 16.4 million viewers. That special event episode and its same-day encores aired on 8 cable networks plus CBS.

Time waits for no one. But for fans of Yellowstone, the opposite seems to be true. Time keeps pulling us back to Kevin Costner, even though he has long left the ranch behind. The show’s popularity may have soared, but there’s one thing that still lingers in the air, like the scent of sagebrush: the unmistakable presence of Costner.

His departure has left a cloud hanging over the show. As the final season unfolds, rumors of what went wrong behind the scenes are floating, and it’s not just about who left but why. Denim Richards, who once played the lovable Colby, recently hinted about the tension that started long before Costner’s exit—and it paints a picture that’s less about creative differences and more about clashing egos.

Despite the odd colossal, almost career-ending box office flop, Kevin Costner has had a remarkably consistent career. Even when he wasn't matching the high of winning Best Picture for his celebrated Western epic "Dances With Wolves," which he both directed and starred in, Costner was consistently working, cementing his status as one of Hollywood's most enduring movie stars. Despite a few missteps, Costner's best films, such as "Bull Durham" and "Field of Dreams," showcased his remarkable talent and established his reputation as a serious actor — a reputation that has withstood such blunders as 1997's "The Postman."
This was part of the reason Zack Snyder cast Costner as Superman's dad in 2013's "Man of Steel." The actor played Kal-El's earthly father, Jonathan Kent, alongside Diane Lane as Martha Kent in the blockbuster Superman reboot. Snyder explained his decision to cast the pair to Gizmodo:

Life’s too short to be anything but honest, but when it comes to the world of Yellowstone, it’s clear that honesty comes with its own share of drama. At its peak, Yellowstone was the talk of the town. But things took a turn when news broke that Season 5 would be the last. Costner’s exit, reportedly to focus on Horizon: An American Saga, sparked rumors of tension with creator Taylor Sheridan. Yellowstone is a Western series that has left fans craving for more after each episode, which is no surprise because creative brains like Taylor Sheridan are at the helm of it. But what elevated the show more was Kevin Costner’s commanding presence as John Dutton, who became a cultural phenomenon.

To watch the Dutton family saga unfold was such a treat because it was laced with drama, heartbreak, and battles for survival. However, there was also a drama off-screen, one that led to Costner’s departure from the show, and here’s why we think that Sheridan might be deeply unhappy with this outcome.

Although Yellowstone fans might have missed Kevin Costner, at least one co-star got along just fine in his absence.
Luke Grimes recently shared his honest opinion of the 2x Oscar winner and his experience filming the fifth and final season of the Paramount Network neo-Western family drama, which airs its finale ‘Life Is a Promise’ on Sunday, Dec. 15 at 8pm Et.
“Hopefully everyone can see that it was time,” he told Esquire. “To be really honest, there was a part of Kevin being gone that meant some of the conflict was gone. Obviously, it didn’t make it super fun to be around. Not pointing any fingers, but it was actually the easiest season we’ve filmed.”
Costner didn’t return to Yellowstone for the final episodes due to scheduling conflicts with his film Horizon: An American Saga, the self-funded western film series he’s producing, co-writing, directing and starring.

When you step into the world of Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone, it’s impossible not to feel the tension between the majestic Montana landscape and the complex lives of the Dutton family. It’s a world where power, land, and loyalty come crashing together, and before you know it, you’re caught in the maelstrom of drama and conflict that defines this rugged land.

But if you ask most fans about the show’s lead character, John Dutton, they’ll likely describe him as an antihero—a man who’s as ruthless as he is protective. Well, wait—not every character is meant to be loved, right? And John Dutton, Yellowstone’s tough-as-nails patriarch, is living proof of that.

As Martin Scorsese once said, “Music and cinema fit together naturally. Because there’s a kind of intrinsic musicality to the way moving images work when they’re put together. It’s been said that cinema and music are very close as art forms, and I think that’s true.” The right piece of music––whether an original score or a carefully selected song––can do wonders for a sequence, and today we’re looking at the 25 films that best expressed that notion in 2024.
From seasoned composers to accomplished musicians, as well as a smattering of soundtracks, each perfectly transported us. Check out our rundown of the top 25, which includes streams to each soundtrack in full where available.

Kevin Costner’s unceremonious exit from Yellowstone doesn’t seem to have an adverse effect on his relationship with one actress in the series. Kelly Reilly’s Beth Dutton is the daughter of Costner’s John Dutton in the series and both characters have left a lasting impact on Western fans. An insider has spilled the beans on their great relationship even after his abrupt exit.

However, other sources reported that the rest of the cast of Yellowstone have cut contact with the actor. Costner’s exit came after his rumored feud with Taylor Sheridan, but the official explanation was that he left to pursue his passion project, Horizon: An American Saga.

With an awards season and year-end lists that tend to favor films that have been released in the last few months, there’s many films that can go overlooked. For our yearly feature highlighting the 50 best films you might have missed––arriving before our overall top 50 films––we’ve sought to dig deep to find the gems that deserved more attention upon their initial release and have mostly been left out of year-end conversations. Hopefully, with many widely available on a variety of streaming platforms, they will begin to find an expanded audience.

Isn’t it fascinating how even the brightest stars sometimes choose to step out of the spotlight? As Yellowstone gears up for its last act, the drama surrounding Kevin Costner’s sudden exit has unfolded like an engrossing Western tale. The actor, who defined John Dutton for five seasons, dropped a bombshell about his departure from the series, and it looks like things have gotten a little… complicated.

The actor, who will soon be turning 70, hinted at some serious tension between himself and the show’s creator, Taylor Sheridan. The reason? Well, let’s just say things didn’t go as smoothly as expected, and Costner has some serious reservations about the way things were handled behind the scenes. A lot of it has to do with the future of Yellowstone—and what, if anything, Sheridan “borrowed” from Costner’s own project.

Kevin Costner teases a “devastating” third film in the Horizon: An American Saga series, and chats about funding the third and fourth films.
It’s pretty well known that Kevin Costner is currently half way through the making of his planned four film collection, Horizon: An American Saga.
Chapter 1 was released over the summer, although Chapter 2 doesn’t as of yet have a set release date. It’s debuted at the Venice Film Festival, but its theatrical release has been delayed, presumably now until 2025. Early whispers suggest the spring, but I’ve had no confirmation of that.
Looking further ahead, Costner has already shot nine minutes of the material he needs for Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 3, but has been open about the fact that funds are a little dry when it comes to shooting the remainder, and also the final film.

Kevin Costner has famously been a champion of Westerns, and now, the writer/director/producer/star of “Horizon: An American Saga” is explaining why he is haunted by the genre.
During the foreword for “The Great Horizon: Photographing Kevin Costner’s ‘American Saga,’” the “Yellowstone” actor detailed how there has been “no greater narrative than the arduous journey of men and women from across America in pursuit of a dream,” which is the foundation of Westerns. Costner’s “Horizon: An American Saga” might be an awards season dark horse, but it’s just one of a slated four-part film series that explores the evolution of the American West during the Civil War. “Part Two” debuted at the 2024 Venice Film Festival, but has yet to announce a release date.

Following Kevin Costner’s success in the highly acclaimed series Yellowstone, great things were expected from the actor, especially since he ventured into Western filmmaking with his 2024 two-part franchise starter Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1. However, although the sprawling Western epic had promised to be something fresh and groundbreaking, the film suffered a catastrophic blow at the box office.

This led netizens to express their disappointment in Kevin Costner, considering how the actor had previously created hype surrounding his Western epic. But surprisingly, when you look at the bigger picture, Horizon is far from an isolated failure. In the landscape of Hollywood cinema, where sequels and remakes are dominating the box office, there appeared several other original movies that sadly succumbed at the 2024 box office.

When Kevin Costner produced, directed, and starred in his first epic Western, “Dances with Wolves,” back in 1990, he went home on Academy Awards night with an armful of Oscars — including a Best Director statue in a year when his competition included Martin Scorsese and Francis Ford Coppola. This year, Costner released the first chapter in his projected four-part passion project “Horizon: An American Saga,” and by virtually every standard, it’s an even more impressive work than “Dances with Wolves”: more complex in its themes and sense of moral inquiry, more expressive in its visual style and soundscape, and abundant with exquisitely crafted set pieces.
Unlike “Dances with Wolves,” however, “Horizon: An American Saga — Chapter 1” has struggled to find an audience, which puts it at a disadvantage in the awards race — after all, Academy and guild members have to actually see a movie to vote for it. A patient,...

Yellowstone’s landscape has changed forever with the death of the main character, John Dutton, and fans are not happy with the new view of the ranch.
Yellowstone’s patriarch, John Dutton, played by veteran actor Kevin Costner, died a gruesome death that has been labeled suicide in Season 5b, episode 9.
John’s death would happen eventually because of the sad fact that no one cheats death, but because of a dispute between Kevin Costner and the show, the death occurred prematurely.
It makes sense that a big star the size of Kevin Costner would want to greenlight his project; in this case, it was Horizon: An American Saga Chapter 1.
Unfortunately, the Yellowstone filming schedule could not accommodate Kevin’s dream, and now, with John Dutton’s death, the fans are paying the price.

Giddy-up folks, cause it seems that Kevin Costner’s plans to complete his massive, four-part Western epic, “Horizon: An American Saga,” have not gone the way of the horse-and-buggy and are still very much in motion.
While speaking this past weekend at Deadline Contenders Los Angeles, Costner gave an update on where the project stands after Warner Bros. unceremoniously pulled the August release of “Chapter 2” following the tepid response to “Chapter 1” in June.
“I’m hoping, I’m dreaming, I’m meeting all the billionaires that we all hear about — they’re all hiding in the shadows,” Costner said, receiving a laugh from the crowd.
Despite this commitment, Costner admitted that he has not seen a light at the end of the tunnel thus far. Even so, he refuses to give up on this project, as he’s already spent almost 40 years bringing it to fruition.

Spoilers for "Yellowstone" follow.
Kevin Costner continues to be surprisingly active around "Yellowstone" despite the fact that the show's season 5, part 2 confirms John Dutton's death. The Paramount Network series' longtime star has already reacted to John's "Yellowstone" fate by wondering why his face is all over the advertising for a batch of episodes he's not actually in. While the actor hasn't really given his personal views about Sarah Atwood's (Dawn Olivieri) assassins killing John in a comparatively anticlimactic fashion so far, he does have a few words for the assorted fans who are less than happy about the way his character departs the neo-Western drama.
"Fans have a voice in things, and they choose to follow stuff," Costner noted regarding the fans' displeased reaction in a comment he gave to E! News at the 2024 Governors Awards. However, the actor didn't express personal frustration about the show's decision to...

Kevin Costner is fine with Yellowstone killing off John Dutton in the ninth episode, of Season 5. While fans knew that Costner wouldn’t be returning to the final season, they didn’t expect the series to give such a goodbye to the character. Fans have expressed outrage on social media platforms over the Dutton family patriarch’s off-screen murder.

The Horizon series of movies from Kevin Costner is stalled, but Costner has revealed he’s back out fundraising.
2024 was the year that Kevin Costner’s long-cherished Horizon project was supposed to come to fruition. It very nearly did.
Costner ducked out of the rest of the massively-successful Yellowstone TV series to instead concentrate on bringing his hugely ambition quarter of Horizon films to the big screen. It’s a project that’s been in his head for two decades or so, and two movies of a planned four have been shot. Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1 released back in the summer, while Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 2 had its cinema release yanked when Chapter 1 commercially stumbled. The second film – which includes an assembly from the nine minutes shot thus far for Chapter 3 – has been screened at a festival, but has no cinema release date as of yet.

When part one of Kevin Costner’s planned multi-film epic Horizon: An American Saga tanked at the box office – taking in under $30 million on a reported $50 million budget – you really felt bad for the guy. Here was someone who had put over 20 years and millions of his own dollars into his passion project, only to see it pulled from theaters after just a few weeks. But it wasn’t only Chapter 1 that saw an impact: the rest of the four-part saga is suffering as well, with Chapter 2 being lassoed away from the calendar. Yet, while the future seems uncertain for Horizon, Kevin Costner is remaining optimistic.
Appearing at Deadline Contenders Los Angeles, Kevin Costner said he still hopes that Horizon will be seen to its conclusion. “I’m hoping, I’m dreaming, I’m meeting all the billionaires that we all hear about — they’re all hiding in the shadows.

Kevin Costner said on Saturday at Deadline Contenders Los Angeles that he’s not giving up on his sprawling four-part Western film series, Horizon: An American Saga, whose Chapter 2 was pulled from a planned August theatrical release after Chapter 1 fell short at the box office in July.
“I’m hoping, I’m dreaming, I’m meeting all the billionaires that we all hear about — they’re all hiding in the shadows,” the Horizon director, star and co-writer said to laughter from the audience near the end of a panel discussion with a trio of collaborators on the movies: cinematographer J. Michael Muro, costume designer Lisa Lovaas and composer John Debney.
