  • Warning: Spoilers
This episode, the fifth of seven in the miniseries, is both written and directed by the wonderful Brit Marling, also its co-star & co-creator. Many unexpected things occur as the Darby character (Emma Corrin) begins to (haltingly) recover from the head trauma of her vehicular accident out on the sheer ice. As her own thoughts get darker and darker, they are only exacerbated by the statement by Clive Owen character, Andy, "Why is it that wherever you go, death follows?" This is a statement with which she finds it impossible to argue when her close friend Sian succumbs to an infection brought on by her emergency field tracheotomy, and then she (Darby) herself is attacked by the disguised mystery murderer. As this installment comes to a shocking conclusion, it's looking increasingly dour for "Gen Z Sherlock Holmes." I rounded this rating up to 9 from 8.5!

    Warning: Spoilers
A Murder at the End of the World remains good, but this show needs to cut back on the long hours. This just seemed to drag and drag.

We learned more about Darby's obsessive personality here and what Bill went through in trying to bring her back to reality, but we already kind of knew that. We needed some sort of new development.

I feel like Lee and Andy's good and then bad dynamic is just going to shift episode to episode to tease viewers, but will ultimately lead nowhere.

Not at all confident in predicting an ending at this point but I feel like that is no longer the goal. This show is supposed to be about the journey in getting there.

Good enough, but stick to 40 minute run times moving forward.

    Warning: Spoilers
First of all, we're talking about Iceland and a storm. No heating. Does nobody wear a jacket, cap, gloves, anything?! Darby walks around in her underwear, goes out in a blanket.

Then, she randomly tells whatever it is that she "figured out" to anybody who wants to hear, never, ever questioning if that person is a suspect! Naive or stupid, or both.

As if that is not enough, she walks into the room where that Sian (Sean) whatever her name is lies and when asked for a glass of water, she just walks into the bathroom never once, ONCE, thinking that the woman in bed is going to pull the plug and kill herself! That was so obivious!

And then, as if all of this is not enought to prove what an idiot Darby is, when asked for a secret randevouz by the pool, she actually goes INTO THE POOL, so surprise, surprise when the cover is pulled over and she is unable to exit.

    I mean, seriously?!

At this point, I keep watching just because it's one of the worst crime shows I have ever seen! And I fully expect Bill to be alive somehow at the end.

The journey through this show has gotten progressively slower paced. I'm almost falling asleep watching this episode at 5pm on a weekday. At first I thought, at episode 1 "who is this Emma Corrin? Do I like her acting? Do I like the character she's playing?". The answers to these questions have been as fluid and vague as her character's sexuality, which has the young adult hetero-normative young love mixed in with the musky flavour of queer bait. Maybe that's a plot twist that'll come later? Some of the directing/editing are soooooo drawn out, like butter scraped over too much bread. I'm guessing whoever's responsible for the snail pace (esp ep 4&5 so far) wants to make absolutely sure that the dimmest audience member will GET it because if those people don't GET it, the show won't make as much money so, insert extended or unnecessary shots of helmets being thrown in the backseat and in general, and other heavy-handed foreshadowing. How Hollywood of y'all.

Emma Corrin, take a tip from me, extreme heavy breathing is never a substitute for good acting. People with anxiety or panic attacks don't need to breathe like they need an oxygen mask. Look at Marky Mark Wahlberg. His early acting was him saying all his lines whilst breathing like he just ran around the block chasing a donkey. Even if he doesn't do it as much now, he's still never getting an Oscar.

    Never go full Marky Mark.
  • Episode 5 was long, too long. I thought I was watching a slow burn movie instead of a television series.

Darby Hart who is suffering from the aftermath of her concussion. Teams up with Andy Ronson to question possible suspects.

That is after Darby confronts Andy about Zoomer's paternity.

Only Darby is in a bad way. She carries the stench of death wherever she goes.

Darby also makes mistakes. Blundering to Lee about Andy's sterility. That Andy knows about Bill's links with Zoomer.

I found once Andy and Darby separated. The episode fell of a cliff. It got too slow and silly. Hard to feel engaged as Darby did stupid things.

Then there were the constant flashbacks with Bill. At least there was some intrigue with the flashbacks.
