Some Survivor fans might not realize the reality series is based on a Swedish show called Expedition Robinson. But while the origin behind the American version might not be common knowledge, one thing most fans can rally behind is the involvement of longtime host Jeff Probst. Here’s why — even though Survivor Season 44 premieres tonight — Probst confirms he doesn’t plan to leave the show anytime soon.
Jeff Probst has been the host of ‘Survivor’ since 2000 Jeff Probst | Robert Voets/CBS
More than just the on-screen host, Jeff Probst has served as the executive producer of Survivor since the mid-2000s. Before the show, he hosted Rock & Roll Jeopardy! But post-Survivor, his career has been largely defined by the longtime reality TV show, which he has helmed since its debut on CBS in May 2000.

It's below freezing in Alaska in early November, but that's nothing compared to what it's like in the dead of winter. For several seasons, fans of Discovery's "Gold Rush" have watched the miners in Alaska and Canada's Klondike race the onslaught of snow, ice and below-zero temperatures to extract the last bit of gold before being shut down.
But on the Bering Sea, technology now allows gold-seekers to park their dredges on the ice, drill holes down four feet to to the water and then dive in to suck gravel -- and, with any luck, gold -- from the sea floor.
On Friday, Nov. 8, Discovery returns to Nome, Alaska, with the season premiere of "Bering Sea Gold: Under the Ice," in which gold dredgers who usually ply their trade during the 49th state's brief summer try their luck while the land and ocean are still frozen.

Now I find out that in the late '80s Queen’s Freddie Mercury “disguised Princess Diana as a man and took her to notorious gay bar Royal Vauxhall Tavern. They were sure they were going to be discovered, but Mercury proved a major distraction, and Diana reportedly loved it.” After knowing this I can now die happy.
Evan Rachel Wood is so in demand as an actress that she’s starring in movies she even she doesn’t know about.

Could "Survivor" get voted off the island? The venerale CBS reality show debuted its "Survivor: Caramoan - Fans Vs. Favorites" edition to the lowest premiere ratings in series history Wednesday night.
Only 8.96 million people watched the 90-minute premiere, Deadline.com reports. That's down 23 percent from last year's winter premiere. The premiere scored a 2.4 rating in the key 18-49 demographic, according to EW.
"Survivor" was going up against Fox's "American Idol," which won the night with 13.4 million viewers.
The sagging ratings are another tough blow to "Survivor" host and executive producer Jeff Probst, whose syndicated talk show "The Jeff Probst Show" was canceled by CBS Tuesday after just one season.
"Survivor: Caramoan - Fans Vs. Favorites" airs Wednesday nights at 8 p.m. Et on CBS.

Jeff Probst may host CBS' top reality show but he didn't have much luck in daytime. The Jeff Probst Show has been cancelled after one season.
Debuting last September, the new talk series just never caught on and couldn't draw as many viewers as fellow newbies Katie, Trisha Goddard, and Steve Harvey. The Ricki Lake Show also began last fall, had a similar ratings problem, and was recently cancelled as well. Sophomore series Anderson Live won't be back next fall either.
A spokesman for CBS Television Distribution said, "We believe Jeff is an incredible talent, and that he and his dedicated producing team delivered quality episodes throughout the season. Unfortunately, the audience isn't there to support a second year... We are grateful to the entire staff, our affiliate partners and advertisers for their ongoing support of The Jeff Probst Show."

"Survivor" host Jeff Probst must be happy he kept his primetime job because his daytime talk show, "The Jeff Probst Show," won't survive for Season 2.
CBS TV Distribution has pulled the plug on Probst's syndicated series citing disappointing ratings, but will continue to produce new episodes through the end of this season. Probst becomes the latest high profile daytime host to see his series canceled following recent axings of fellow freshman "The Ricki Lake Show" and sophomore "Anderson Cooper Live."
Meanwhile, Katie Couric, Steve Harvey and Trisha Goddard have all seen their first season shows renewed for next year.
Despite, or perhaps because of, the void left in daytime TV by the departure of Oprah Winfrey the arena has become increasingly competitive. Queen Latifah will enter the fray next season and Kris Jenner has a summer test run that could develop into a full-fledged series.

There won't be a second season of The Jeff Probst Show. CBS Television Distribution said Wednesday that it has canceled the syndicated freshman talk show hosted by the Survivor veteran. Jeff Probst’s daytime talker will not return even though it has a two-year deal for distribution on syndicated television. A victim of low ratings and an inability to stand out among so many shows, the series will finish its current run before leaving the schedule in the summer. Speaking to the TCA, PBS President Paula Kerger was asked about the delay between the debut of Downton Abbey in the UK and their debut on PBS. Unfortunately, Kerger replied that January seems like a good time for the show. In other words, U.S. fans should expect to spend more time avoiding spoilers.
My first reaction to reading TMZ's report that Ann Romney turned down Dancing with the Stars was a hostile eye roll, but after a little thought I'm a little sad we won't get to see what kind of Saturday Night Live gold Kate McKinnon could turn that into.
Is an ad boasting "Enough episodes of Glee to make you question your sexuality" homophobic? Jezebel isn't sure. Honestly, it gave me a chuckle but Glee is its own universe when it comes to determining context.

Yesterday, critics talked with NBC head Robert Greenblatt, who said that he's not sure when Hannibal will air, but it won't be until late in the TV season. Meanwhile, Michael J. Greenblatt also expressed faith in Days of Our Lives, saying "it's not going anywhere." That's a very welcome change from the days when Jeff Zucker was predicting impending cancellation for the soap. We're so lucky Zucker never got around to dumping Days for the ninth hour of The Today Show.

And whether you recognize Lisa Whelchel or not, the "Facts of Life" star has captured the hearts of the audience this season. If she doesn't win the million-dollar prize, she has earned the title of "Survivor" sweetheart.

Lisa: Oh my goodness. I think it was so much even bigger than "Survivor." I think that what Survivor did was strip me of all my coping mechanisms -- of even the fact that I had just gotten divorced before I came out there.
