Last year, Taron Egerton took over Netflix with the hit movie Carry-On. This year, the British actor is diving once again into an edge-of-your-seat thriller, but this time in more understated tones. Today, Apple TV+ released the trailer for Smoke, a new investigative series that centers on an investigator who is trying to locate two serial arsonists that are wreaking fiery havoc and challenging the police. The series is set to premiere on June 27.

The trailer for Smoke suggests that the fire is one way to grab the attention of the police, but there's something else brewing that we can't quite put our finger on. This is reflected in Egerton's character, Dave Gudsen, who gets so deeply involved in the mystery that it might bring some permanent consequences for his psyche. In that scenario, it looks like police detective Michelle Calderone (Jurnee Smollett) will be fundamental to keeping Dave grounded during the investigation.

Created by crime author Dennis Lehane, Apple TV+’s upcoming crime-drama miniseries Smoke, starring Taron Egerton, is inspired by a podcast titled Firebug by Truth Podcasting Corp. Netflix has unveiled a premiere date and a series of first-look photos for My Oxford Year, its new romance starring Sofia Carson (The Life List) and Corey Mylchreest (Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story), which adapts the novel by Julia Whelan.

No details have yet emerged about Jupe’s character or the film’s plot, though it’s been described by sources as Don’t Breathe meets 1917. Production begins in Melbourne, Australia in May. The series is based on the acclaimed podcast Firebug, which was previously believed to be the title of the show until this latest announcement.
