Although horror anime is often defined by how successfully a show scares its viewers, how it chooses to do so is flexible, allowing authors and directors to approach the genre from numerous different angles to create vastly different experiences. While many fans are used to the blood, gore, and jumpscares often associated with horror, there is another sub-genre that can be just as frightening in a far more subtle way: psychological horror. Instead of relying on overt scare tactics, psychological horror aims to spook the audience by using their own mind and sanity against them. By testing the character's emotional boundaries alongside their physical ones, in moments of great distress, viewers are treated to mind-bending yet terrifying experiences that may make or break a character's entire psyche. Sometimes, the monster is merely just a monster, but occasionally, it's something far harder to comprehend, and it's that unpredictable threat that makes this genre so thrilling.

Things are definitely heating up for the upcoming Season 7 of My Hero Academia, one of the most popular shonen titles of the modern era. We know that the season is going to premiere on May 4, 2024, in Japan, and the studio is constantly releasing new teasers and preview videos, with the most recent one focusing on some new scenes from the upcoming season, as well as the Op song.
As far as the Season 7 Op is concerned, we know that it is going to be the song “Dare Ware Tame” (誰我為) by Japanese artist Tk from 凛として時雨 (Tk from Ling tosite sigure), a name that will be known to a lot of anime fans. Voices That Bring Anime to Life: Celebrating the Best Anime Voice Actors of All Time ( Photo Credit – IMDb )
Japan takes its anime voice actors very seriously to the point where they have special voice acting academies and schools to train them to master their art completely. This is exactly why these professionals are so versatile and have such natural, golden voices. In fact, a large number of avid anime fans prefer watching anime subs rather than anime dubs exactly because of this. Some Dub actors tend to exaggerate and overact as a way to compensate for the inconsistency in translations and syncing. Native voice actors retain the ‘authenticity’ that dubs lack.
The authenticity of the subs is attributed to the voice actors’ talent and how natural they are with their jobs. Here are some of the best Japanese anime voice actors of all time.

The Terminator is becoming an anime series for Netflix, it’s been revealed. More details this way.
Things have been quiet around The Terminator ever since the commercial failure of Terminator: Dark Fate in 2019, although the film was more warmly received by fans than other recent entries in the franchise. That said, the bar was not set too high by its immediate predecessor.
Netflix has now jumped in, anyway, and revealed details of an anime series called, appropriately enough, Terminator: The Anime Series.
The synopsis reads as follows:
2022: A future war has raged for decades between the few human survivors and an endless army of machines. 1997: The AI known as Skynet gained self-awareness and began its war against humanity. Caught between the future and this past is a soldier sent back in time to change the fate of humanity. She arrives in 1997 to protect a scientist named Malcolm Lee...

A few weeks ago, DC released the announcement video of ‘Suicide Squad Isekai‘ on their official YouTube page, an upcoming anime television series based on the famous DC Comics team of supervillains, Suicide Squad. Of course, many fans of the genre are excited about the project, which will see Warner Bros. Japan, Production I.G and Wit Studio collaboration in action. This isn’t the first time DC ventured into Japanese animation, with ‘Deadshot’ and ‘Working Through the Pain’ being among many successful projects, and it seems that the animators behind ‘Attack on Titan,’ ‘Spy x Family’ and ‘Vinland Saga’ will take on the notable DC supervillains.

Japanese studio Production Ig’s conspiracy noir is a fabulous-looking tale influenced by Blade Runner
With the iconic 1995 Ghost in the Shell in their locker, Japan’s Production Ig studio has been a long way ahead of the curve on the now-inescapable AI and cybernetics front. This high-minded, operatic conspiracy-thriller anime, released for the Psycho-Pass franchise’s 10th anniversary, won’t do their reputation any harm. Often insightful about the dark impulses behind humankind’s need to delegate and cede to technology, it does a better job than most concept-drunk anime of parsing these philosophical musings into something semi-intelligible.

In the dystopia of 2118, the Psycho-Pass is a Chinese-style social-credit chit given to every Japanese citizen assessing their psychological state and likelihood of breaking bad, all overseen for the good of social order by a benign AI called the Sibyl System. Inspector Tsunemori (voiced by Kana Hanazawa) is called in after...

It’s the final week of July and two more new horror movies are headed onto the big screen this weekend. They’ll have to compete with the #Barbenheimer phenomenon, but both new horror releases look to bring very different counter programming to the box office. One is the next rated “R” fright fest from A24, while the other is a horror-comedy built for families.
Here’s all the new horror releasing July 25– July 30, 2023!
For daily reminders about new horror releases, be sure to follow @HorrorCalendar.
First up, a tragedy leads two dysfunctional families to intertwine in disturbing ways in Screambox Exclusive Repulse, now streaming on the Bloody Disgusting-powered platform.
The bleak, brutal Czech film harkens back to boundary-pushing horror like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and The Hills Have Eyes.
In the film, Kateřina and Robert raise their young daughter in a luxurious modern villa, but their family life can hardly be called harmonious.

As I have mentioned in the past, the “Psycho-Pass” franchise is probably the closest thing we have in the combination of contextual depth and intricate action that the masterful “Ghost in the Shell” first brought in the world of anime, at least until Netflix got its hands on it. The fact is quite eloquently presented in the “Psycho-Pass 3” line, of which “Psycho-pass: Providence” is the latest entry, set in January 2118, two months after the ending of “Sinners of the System” and near three years before “Psycho-Pass 3”, thus providing the missing link between the two.
“Psycho-pass: Providence” arrives in theaters on Friday, July 14 in North America, courtesy of Crunchyroll
For those not familiar with the main premise of the series, the story takes place in a future Japan that has secluded itself from other countries due to its food autarky. The Sibyl System has taken over the judicial sector, by actively measuring the populace's mental states,...

Osamu Tezuka is often mentioned along with the title of “Father of Manga” and in many ways, he is, thanks to the prolific nature of his works and the fact that he managed to walk the perfect line between entertainment for kids and profound storytelling that took the medium of manga to an entirely new era. Characters like Astro Boy, Kimba, the White Lion, and Black Jack are still present in the audience’s minds even after so long, and thus the influence of Tezuka cannot be understated. Pluto is a new anime series based on the Astro Boy Universe, and Netflix has released the first official teaser for it.
Pluto is based on a manga of the same name written and illustrated not by Tezuka, who sadly passed away at the age of 60 in 1989, but by Naoki Urasawa, a more contemporary manga artist that has acquired an amazing reputation...

Itching to see just what the upcoming Resident Evil: Dead Island is all about? Rather than waiting until July (or watching the trailer ad nauseam), Capcom will kick off a serial manga adaptation of Death Island this Friday.
Per the official Biohazard: Death Island Twitter account, the first volume of the manga will arrive on May 19th on Comic Hu. Details are still being kept under wraps at the moment but you can check out some of the awesome art below that’s already been released.

Wondering just where that fanservice shot from Resident Evil: Dead Island from yesterday came from? Animation studio Kadokawa has your answer with the brand-new Resident Evil: Death Island trailer!
The Death Island trailer does the usual trailer things of summarizing the plot, but also gives us more fanservice shots of the team shooting zombies and doing slick acrobatics, Chris Redfield in a Hawaiian shirt (?!), swimming Lickers and more. The trailer itself is in English with Japanese text, so you won’t need to hunt down a translation.
Keep in mind that the trailer only gives the Japanese release date of July 7. It’s still not confirmed what the worldwide release date will be.

The animated anthology series "Star Wars: Visions," which debuted in 2021, may be the best way to explore the franchise's vast and complicated mythology, better even than legacy shows like "The Book of Boba Fett" and "Obi-Wan Kenobi." Every one of the "Star Wars" movies has featured a lot of background detail, often depicting space aliens of all walks of life casually going about their business, oblivious to the adventures that our heroes may be going through at any given moment. In presenting out-of-timeline animated shorts, "Visions" has the leeway to look into the cracks and explore what life is like in the "Star Wars" universe outside the tiresome saga of the Skywalkers. It has only been through expanded universe fiction, and shows like "Visions," that Starwoids have been able to see what non-soldiers are doing in wartime.
