Discovery began running a “MythBusters” marathon this Friday, that will run through Saturday on the Discovery Channel, to pay tribute to the late “MythBusters” star Grant Imahara. The programming also features other shows that Imahara worked on, such as “Killer Robots” and “White Rabbit Project.”
The Friday portion of the two-day marathon concluded on the Discovery channel but will resume on the Science Channel at 3 p.m. Et Saturday. Episodes that will air on Saturday include “MythBusters” episodes “Shooting Fish in a Barrel,” “Dog Myths,” “Paper Armor,” and “Motorcycle Water Ski,” while the “Robogames 2011” episode of “Killer Robots” and “White Rabbit Project” episode “May G Force Be with You” will also be featured as part of the marathon.
Imahara passed away earlier in the week week from a brain aneurism at the age of 49. He was a long-time “MythBusters” co-host, BattleBots champion, and veteran engineer. Discovery released a statement shortly after Imahara’s death.

Grant Imahara, an electrical engineer and former host on the Discovery Channel show “Mythbusters” has died at 49, a spokesperson for Discovery has confirmed to Variety.

Fellow “Mythbusters” host Adam Savage paid tribute to Imahara on Twitter.
“I’m at a loss.

Grant Imahara, a former MythBusters and White Rabbit Project host who earlier worked as a modelmaker for Industrial Light + Magic, died Monday. He was 49. A Discovery spokesperson confirmed the news but did not provide details.
Imahara co-hosted more than 200 episodes of Discovery’s MythBusters starting with Season 3 in 2005 and remained with the show until 2014. He had made a handful of appearances since.
Former longtime Mythbusters host Adam Savage tweeted tonight: “I’m at a loss. No words. I’ve been part of two big families with Grant Imahara over the last 22 years. Grant was a truly brilliant engineer, artist and performer, but also just such a generous, easygoing, and gentle Person. Working with Grant was so much fun. I’ll miss my friend.”

Lou Ferrigno is recovering after a pneumonia vaccination went wrong.
The Incredible Hulk actor, 67, shared the news to his social media accounts on Wednesday, revealing that he ended up in the hospital after he was allegedly incorrectly administered a pneumonia vaccine.

I don’t know about you, but I keep forgetting to watch Star Trek: Discovery.
I don’t know about you, but I couldn’t wait for each episode of Star Trek Continues.
As I’m sure you know, CBS, through the complicated Hollywood system of it’s mine, it’s mine!, owns the television rights to Trek and in its infinite wisdom stupidity decided to launch Discovery on their streaming network. Which you have to pay for.
Star Trek Continues, a continuation of the five-year mission of the Constellation class starship USS Enterprise Ncc-1701, captained by James Tiberius Kirk, is a love-fast to the original series. It is available for free on YouTube and its own website.
Stc was co-produced by the non-profit charity Trek Continues, Inc., Dracogen, Far From Home LLC and Farragut Films, and was partially funded by Kickstarter, in an incredibly successful campaign of crowd sourcing.

The best fan-made web-series has come to an end. To Boldly Go: Part 2 was released this week and it not only concludes the show in style, it also brings the 5-year mission of the Starship enterprise to a solid, entertaining end.
It was a bittersweet moment watching the final episode of Star Trek Continues. On one had, it was great to see this excellent series get wrapped up so well, but it was also sad to realize that there won’t be any further episodes. The purpose of the show was bridge the gap between the end of the classic 1966-69 TV series (“Turnabout Intruder” was the final original series episode) and big screen cinematic adventures, which it does very well. It was a great ride, while it lasted.
Vic Mignogna, the executive producer/writer, who portrays Captain Kirk on the show, explains what he wanted to accomplish with this last episode.

Part one of the final episode for the Web’s finest fan-made series came out this week, and as usual, it does not disappoint. As Star Trek Continues warps to its conclusion, long-time Trek fans are treated to a wonderful trip back to the very beginning of the classic series.
The latest episode of Stc, “To Boldly Go” (a homage to the famous opening narrative to Classic Trek and Star Trek: The Next Generation) is a fun trip into the Trek universe that pays homage to “Where No Man Has Gone Before”, the original 1966 pilot episode for Star Trek. (Okay, that was actually the second pilot, the first being “The Cage”, starring Jeffrey Hunter as Captain Pike, but I digress.) It shows the fidelity and affection that the makers of this show have for the source material; which is why they chose to end their series that way Star Trek began.

The best fan-made web-series, Star Trek Continues, returns with a new episode. Like the original Star Trek show it’s based on, it doesn’t shy away from controversial issues. Does the latest episode “What Ships Are For” maintain the series’ quality?
“What Ships Are For” is the ninth of a planned 11 episodes of this excellent show, and it’s too bad it will be coming to an end soon because it’s far and away the finest fan-made web show in production. What makes it so good is its fidelity to the classic 1966-1969 Star Trek TV series, which worked as a metaphor for socio-cultural issues of the day. (Something missing from the recent Jj Abrams films). Star Trek Continues also dives into a hot-button issue by tacking the subject of refugees.

For fans of classic Star Trek who want to see quality stories done in the spirt of the original series, you have a treat this week. The consistently excellent web series Star Trek Continues has put out its eighth episode, “Still Treads the Shadow”, and as usual, it does not disappoint.
For those who’ve never seen the multi-award winning Star Trek Continues, don’t dismiss it as “just” a fan-made web show. That does the series an injustice. It’s more than that. As someone whose been a Star Trek fan for over 40 years, and grew up with William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy and the rest of the original crew of the USS Enterprise, I never ceased to be amazed by how well this show captures the essence of the great show I adored in my childhood. It’s a terrific homage, made by people who love the original Star Trek.

“Embracing the Winds”, the seventh episode of the excellent fan-made webseries Star Trek Continues debuted recently and it continues the outstanding quality of the previous six episodes. With equal parts fan service, entertaining writing, good performances and nostalgia, "Embracing the Winds" delivers what fans of classic Star Trek want from their Trek.
Note to Jj Abrams…Watch this show! These guys get it. You don’t. This is what fans of Star Trek: The Original Series (1966-1969) expect when they see the name Star Trek. The fan-made, crowd funded Star Trek Continues is such a superb extension of the old show, it makes you wonder why Paramount doesn’t hire these folks to write the new films. They’re much better at it than whoever is writing those movies now.

Unless you avoided social media yesterday – or don’t have a lot of geek friends – you may have missed that yesterday was the 50th Anniversary debut of Star Trek. That’s the original series, the one that featured cardboard sets, kitschy costumes, and the multi-ethnic crew of the Starship Enterprise that has become so engrained in pop culture today.
Created by Gene Roddenberry, Star Trek premiered fifty years ago, but the original series only ran for three seasons and a total of 79 episodes. That in itself is impressive, given how deeply Star Trek has embedded itself in our collective imaginations. The various films featuring the original crew of the Enterprise were of varying quality – the most iconic being The Wrath of Khan – but that and the stalwart dedication of its fans have made Star Trek into a pop culture entity that’s really unrivalled.

Paramount Pictures and CBS TV have drawn a line in the sand to stop the creation of fan-made films based on Star Trek. Because of the increasing high-quality of fan projects like Star Trek Axanar, the two big corporations have initiated a series of new rules designed to limit the scope and proliferation of the many independently made Star Trek projects. Is this fair?
Independently made Star Trek projects are nothing new. The first Trek fan-made movie was filmed in Super 8 back in 1978. Since the introduction of the internet, Star Trek fan films and ongoing series have exploded in number. Within the last decade, we’ve had Trek fan series like Starship Exeter, Starship Farragut, Star Trek: Intrepid, Star Trek the New Voyages (Aka Star Trek Phase 2) and, the best one of all, Star Trek Continues, to name a few. With the debut today of the sixth episode of the excellent web series Star Trek Continues, Cinelinx looks at one of the most outstanding fan-fiction projects being produced today, as it reaches its third year. This show is not only a superb tribute to the original Star Trek, it’s a well-made and entertaining series in its own right.
Any fan of the original Star Trek TV series should enjoy this impressive follow-up, which continues the Five Year Mission of the USS Enterprise. It picks up after the last episode of the original show “Turnabout Intruder” (The final scene of which is recreated in a short video vignette that precedes the series) and chronicles the 4th year of Captain Kirk and his crew going where no man has gone before.

The campaign to raise $350,000 felt more like the unbeatable Kobayashi Maru, especially over the last few weeks. But leave it to Capt. Kirk or at least his "Star Trek Continues" alter ego Vic Mignogna to find a way to save the day.A crowdfunding effort to raise those hundreds of thousands of dollars ended Thursday, pulling in just under $200,000 or 57 percent of its goal. Where fans expected this could put future episodes of the fan-film series in danger, Mignogna had surprising news: "Continues" met its goal through private donations outside of the IndieGoGo campaign."Thank you, thank you, thank you from the bottom of our hearts," Mignogna wrote on the fan-film's Facebook page. "We are so deeply grateful to those of you who have donated to 'Star Trek Continues.' And do not be discouraged. ...

Star Trek Axanar is a labor of love for its enthusiasts, a prequel film made by fans of the original TV series that aims to be as professionally made as any Hollywood production. Drawing upon one of the original episodes of the original Star Trek series, Axanar tells the story of a young Starfleet Captain Garth, the legendary future hero of Izar that was instrumental in ending the four-year war with the Klingon Empire.
A two-hour Axanar film has already drawn more than $1 million dollars in crowdsourced money, and is in post-production. However, the future of the project is now in jeopardy as the owners of the Star Trek franchise, CBS/Paramount, have filed a lawsuit against the Axanar production to cease and desist, as well as for damages to the brand.
What's of greater interest to fandom is that this is the first recent and major lawsuit filed against a fan production.

I’m a big fan of Star Trek Continues, the incredible fan-produced project to finish the last two years of the original U.S.S. Enterprise’s five-year mission. After three amazing episodes, the crew is almost ready to go with Episode 4. Principle photography is completed, I am informed, and it is slated to debut in the spring.
But the extraordinary quality of Star Trek Continues means they’re not cheap to produce. So the production is running a Kickstarter — er, rather, a Kirkstarter — to raise the funds to finish Episode 4… and to produce Episode 5.
I am not alone in my love of Star Trek Continues, so it’s not at all surprising to see that the Kirkstarter has already met its $100,000 goal, with two weeks still left to go. But there are some really cool stretch goals on the horizon. I like this one:
• $175,000 • You want us to visit “planets” — and so do we!

Have you heard Star Trek Continues? I happened to discover it just today, as I was surfing the web this morning. It is an award-winning …well, let me quote from the site itself:
“Star Trek Continues is a critically-acclaimed, award-winning, fan-produced webseries… the brainchild of long-time Star Trek: The Original Series fan – and producer, director, actor, voice-actor, musician – Vic Mignogna.
“Star Trek Continues is proud to be part of Trek history, aimed at completing
the final two years of the original five-year mission. After mounting a successful Kickstarter campaign, the show is already making waves and attracting guest stars such as Michael Forest, Jamie Bamber, Lou Ferrigno, and Erin Gray – as well as cameos by Star Trek alums like Marina Sirtis and Michael Dorn.”
It really is absolutely captivating. Mr. Mignogna is perfect – and I mean perfect! – William Shatner as Captain James Tiberius Kirk, down to body movements and personal tics.

I just discovered (via io9) the fan-produced series Star Trek Continues, which intends to follow the crew of the USS Enterprise across the fourth and fifth years of its five-year mission. But to call it “fan-produced” is misleading. That makes it sound smaller and less incredible than it is. This isn’t a reflection of or an homage to something greater — this is Star Trek. This is so pitch-perfect a re-creation that it gave me chills, then it made me cry tears of geek joy, and then I forgot I was watching anything other than Star Trek. The sets and the costumes and the props are perfect. The lighting and the direction and the pacing is perfect. It’s even shot in the old-fashioned TV aspect ratio of 4:3. I felt like I was watching episodes from the 60s that I had somehow missed.

This week on our favorite radio show and podcast, the men of Where Monsters Dwell will be having their Comic-Con wrap-up discussion. This is gonna be great. Here’s what they’re saying about it:
From Ultron in Avengers Dos, to a World’s Finest movie, to a Fight Club comic prequel, and to our pals Jimmy and Amanda getting a sweet gig crafting the next Harley Quinn stories, and So Much More! We’ll attempt to fit it all in.
I was at Comic-Con and I still can’t wait to hear what hosts Remington J. Osborne and Monster Mike have to say about it. Hey guys? Loki. Just sayin.
Click here to listen to tonight’s show live at 8:30/7:30c. If there’s something you want to chat about with them during the show, you can post it on their Facebook page, or call at 506-453-4949 (it’s in Canada,...

This week on our favorite radio show and podcast that dares to go where no one has gone before, Where Monsters Dwell welcomes Vic Mignogna to the Monster Cave. Vic is currently starring as Captain Kirk on the web series Star Trek Continues. You’ve also heard his voice talents on every single cartoon ever (this is only a slight exaggeration).
He joins Monster Mike and Remington J. Osborne to chat about playing the icon that is Kirk as well as the rest of his vastly diverse career in entertainment.
Update: Listen to this episode now!
Click here to listen to tonight’s show live at 8:30/7:30c. If you miss it – I’ll be in line for the Comic-Con Exhibit Hall preview, so I feel I have a valid excuse – then you can join me in listening to the podcast later this week, either from the Where Monsters Dwell website,...

In the same summer that we got a new big-budget Star Trek feature film, it strikes me as ironic that the more enjoyable new story featuring Capt. Kirk and his Enterprise shipmates came from the internet. If you've found yourself agreeing with the criticism about Star Trek Into Darkness and its story faults, silly plot logistics and its nearly line-by-line remake of Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, then let me direct your attention to a new Star Trek story that may satisfy your craving for good 23rd century adventure. It's called Star Trek Continues, and you can watch it right on YouTube.
Star Trek Continues is the latest fan-made effort to try and continue on the missions of Kirk, Spock, Bones and the rest of the Enterprise crew in the timeframe of the original TV series. There's been other fanshows, most notably James Cawley's Star Trek: Phase II,...
