The unrivaled Queen of the murder mystery, Agatha Christie, has had many of her 66 detective novels and 14 short story collections receive the adaptation treatment, often at the hands of the BBC. Now, in an unsurprising yet exciting announcement cited via Radio Times, Christie is having another of her mysteries adapted by the Beeb, namely her 1967 novel Endless Night, which has received a three-part series order. The adaptation is already placed in the capable and experienced hands of The Sixth Commandment's Sarah Phelps, who has already made five separate Christie-based shows for the BBC, including And Then There Were None, The Witness for the Prosecution, and Ordeal by Innocence. Excited about her involvement, Phelps said in a statement:

The BBC and BritBox International have landed on Endless Night as their latest Agatha Christie adaptation from Sarah Phelps.

Set in 1967, the book is neither a Poirot or a Marple but follows man-of-many-trades Michael Rogers, who finds himself working as chauffeur for the enigmatic designer du jour Rudolf Santonix. Transfixed by Santonix’s latest project, a beautiful house in the English countryside, Mike dreams of meeting the love of his life and taking up residence. But unbeknownst to Mike, the house that he has set his heart on has a dark past that goes back for centuries.

The show is the latest in a long succession of Christie adaptations on the BBC and BritBox from Phelps and ITV Studios-owned Mammoth Screen, with the latest being Towards Zero starring Anjelica Huston. Fifth Season is selling worldwide.

BBC Studios has worked with Agatha Christie Limited to forge a writing course led by Christie for its BBC Maestro platform.

The news was unveiled at a swanky event at London’s Claridge’s hotel this afternoon in the presence of Christie’s great grandson James Prichard, who runs Agatha Christie Ltd, along with a host of top talent and BBC execs.

BBC Maestro, which runs e-courses led by talent like Harlan Coben and Jed Mercurio, has teamed with Christie’s estate, a professional actress and VFX artists to recreate her voice and likeness using AI-enhanced tech and restored audio recordings.

Christie is played by actress Vivien Keene in the course videos but her voice and appearance has been sharpened by artificial intelligence.

“I wasn’t very happy when I was on that show,” she told People. “I was living in New York and I wasn’t very happy living in New York for the obvious reasons. It was a cold winter, and I didn’t feel very prized in that role. I was a bit depressed by it. It was hard really, I didn’t really have a good time making it.”

After six years, Anjelica Huston is opening up about her experience with privately overcoming cancer.

Noting that her “bout of cancer” came after the release of her 2019 movie John Wick: Chapter 3 — Parabellum, the Oscar winner said she’s now “in the clear” with her health.

“That was a very serious moment for me. I managed to survive it, and I’m proud of myself,” she told People. “It’s not something that came lightly. It came as a big shock, but it made me conscious of what I shouldn’t do, of places I shouldn’t go. One of those places was taking life too seriously. So now when the opportunity arises, I laugh, and I try not to make a big deal out of things.”

Although Huston didn’t clarify the kind of cancer with which she was diagnosed, she said she’s reached the “four-year mark” of being cancer-free.

Anjelica Huston was diagnosed with cancer in 2019, just after shooting John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, but she chose not to make it public. Only now, four years after getting the all-clear, is she speaking out about it.

Huston believes in keeping her private life private and though she was happy to share some details with People magazine, she opted not to tell them what kind of cancer it was. But she did muse on how it was a "serious moment" for her, and that she was "proud" of herself for surviving it.

Matthew Rhys is set to star in Widow’s Bay for Apple TV+. The 10-episode series is about a “mysteriously cursed New England island and its superstitious citizens, led by a mayor who refuses to believe their warnings.“

Rhys will play Mayor Tom Loftis, a “no-nonsense single dad forced to deal with his town’s superstitious citizens who believe it’s cursed as he is desperately trying to put the area on the map as the next Nantucket.” In addition to starring in the series, Rhys will also executive produce alongside creator Katie Dippold (Haunted Mansion). The pilot will be directed by Hiro Murai (Atlanta), who will also serve as producer alongside Claudia Shin and Carver Karaszewski.

Matthew Rhys has signed on to star in and executive produce a series titled Widow’s Bay at the streamer. The former Americans and Perry Mason star will play the mayor of a coastal New England town who refuses to believe his constituents’ warnings that the place is cursed.

Widow’s Bay comes from creator and showrunner Katie Dippold (The Heat, Haunted Mansion) and Apple Studios. Hiro Murai (Atlanta, Mr. & Mrs. Smith) is on board to direct the pilot and executive produce. Apple TV+ gave the show a series order in September 2024.

The news of Rhys’ casting follows that of Amy Adams in another Apple TV+ series, Cape Fear, earlier Tuesday.

The show was picked up for 10 episodes at Apple back in September 2024. The official logline states the show is about “a mysteriously cursed New England island and its superstitious citizens, led by a mayor (Rhys) who refuses to believe their warnings.”

This is the latest streaming TV role Rhys has lined up recently. He recently shot the Netflix limited series “The Beast in Me” opposite Claire Danes, while it was reported in November that Rhys will star opposite John Krasinski in the Amazon Prime Video serial killer drama “Silent River.” He also recently wrapped shooting on the BritBox and BBC1 series adaptation of Agatha Christie’s “Towards Zero.”

From Apple Studios, Widow’s Bay will be showrun and executive produced by Dippold. In addition to directing, Murai will also produce alongside Claudia Shin and Carver Karaszewski as well as Rhys. Joanne Toll will co-executive produce.

Emilia Clarke (“Game of Thrones”), Edgar Ramirez (“Emilia Perez”) and Jack Farthing (“Spencer”) will star in “Next Life” from writer-director Drake Doremus (“Like Crazy”), L.A. and London-based production and management company 42, Mutressa and Fetisoff Illusion have announced.

“Next Life” tells the love story of Ivy (Emilia Clarke), who finds herself confronted with parallel universes in which her life unspools in very different ways set against the modern London jazz scene.

According to the official logline, the project, which is seen through the lens of two men whose lives are far more more connected than they realize, explores the cracks of small-town America in the wake of discovering a serial killer among them.

“Silent River” is created by Aaron Rabin, who serves as an executive producer. In addition to Krasinski, Rhys and Rabin, Allyson Seeger and Alexa Ginsburg will executive produce for Sunday Night. Krasinski is set to direct the show’s pilot and some additional episodes. Andrew Bernstein is also set to direct and executive produce.

In addition to the series order, Sunday Night has renewed its first-look television deal with Amazon MGM Studios.
