Corey Stoll has joined the cast of Imperfect Women, the new Apple TV+ limited series based on Araminta Hall’s novel of the same name that will star and be executive produced by Elisabeth Moss and Kerry Washington.

Laura Lippman’s series of books following private investigator Tess Monaghan may soon hit the small screen: Tomorrow Studios (The Better Sister, One Piece) has acquired the series.

Lippman, a New York Times bestselling author, will co-write the television series with Edgar-winning author Megan Abbott. The Tess Monaghan series follows the investigative pursuits of Tess Monaghan, a former reporter turned private investigator in Baltimore. They’re not related, but from the first time they sat down to discuss their roles in Prime Video’s domestic thriller, The Better Sister, Jessica Biel and Elizabeth Banks clicked in a way that carried through to their performances, both actresses said on Sunday at Deadline Contenders TV.

“I felt, like, an immediate connection the first time we had lunch together,” Biel said at a panel with Banks and co-showrunners and executive producers, Olivia Milch and Regina Corrado. Banks agreed, saying, “I felt like the big sister right away.”

The two actresses, who are also executive producers on the show, discussed Biel’s anxieties about sending her son off to camp for the first time — an experience that Banks was able to speak to knowledgeably as a mother whose children are older. “I was the younger sister, she was the older sister, and that’s just the dynamic,” Biel said.

Unfortunately, unlike the Comedy and Drama categories, which have expanded in recent years, the Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series category at the Emmys still only allows for five nominees. Shows that premiere earlier in the season tend to be favored, making the spring schedule, when the majority of these shows are released, a very tight competition for voters’ attention.

Deadline has grown the number of shows and revealed the list of panelists for Contenders Television, its annual two-day panel showcase that kicks off the TV awards season. This year’s edition is set to take place April 5-6 at the DGA Theater in Los Angeles.

A total of 20 shows have now signed on for the extravaganza, which shines a spotlight on the stars and creatives behind the season’s most talked-about TV dramas, comedies and limited series. The latest series to join this week are The Last of Us from HBO and Max, and Prime Video’s Étoile and Overcompensating.

Actor Matthew Modine, known to a generation of fans as Private J.T. “Joker” Davis from Full Metal Jacket (1987) and another generation as Dr. Martin Brenner from Netflix’s hit Stranger Things, has joined Legendary’s MonsterVerse franchise.

Per Deadline, Modine has been cast in MonsterVerse director Grant Sputore’s next feature film, which currently remains untitled. The movie serves as the follow-up to Adam Wingard's Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. Modine's casting follows Stranger Things co-star appearing in previous MonsterVerse films, though she's not expected to be in the next one. The two Stranger Things stars are close, as Modine even officiated Brown's wedding to Jake Bongiovi in 2024.

The actor, who had a resurgence thanks to his work on Netflix’s Stranger Things, has closed a deal to join the cast of Legendary’s latest installment of its Godzilla-King Kong movie franchise.

Grant Sputore (I Am Mother) is directing the creature feature, which one again showcases gigantic monsters and the tiny humans caught in between.

Plot details from the David Callaham-written script are being kept under the Earth’s crust, but Legendary has said the story will feature “several new human characters alongside the beloved and iconic Titans Godzilla and Kong as they face off against a cataclysmic world-ending threat.”

The call sheet already includes new-to-the-franchise actors Kaitlyn Dever, Jack O’Connell and Delroy Lindo. Dan Stevens is reprising his role of laid-back monster veterinarian and dentist Trapper, whom he played in Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.

“Ransom Canyon,” a new modern western drama series starring Josh Duhamel and Minka Kelly, will debut April 17 on Netflix.

According to a press release, the series will follow three ranching family dynasties “locked in a contest for control of their land, their lives and legacies” in Ransom Canyon, Texas. Duhamel will play Staten Kirkland, a “stoic” rancher who’s “healing from heartbreaking loss” and on a quest for vengeance.

He’s joined by Minka Kelly as Quinn O’Grady, a family friend and the owner of a local dancehall. John Cena's Matchbox movie has added a third actor from the Marvel Cinematic Universe to its cast. Corey Stoll, who portrayed Darren Cross/Yellowjacket/M.O.D.O.K. in the Ant-Man movies, has become the latest actor to join Matchbox.

Deadline was the first to report Stoll's casting. At this time, his role remains under wraps. While he is perhaps best known on the big screen for his villainous MCU role, Stoll's film credits include Non-Stop, Driven, First Man, The Many Saints of Newark, West Side Story, and Rebel Moon. The actor also has quite a few prominent credits on the small screen, including starring roles in Law & Order: LA, House of Cards, and Billions. He also recently wrapped opposite Jessica Biel and Elizabeth Banks on The Better Sister, a new thriller series for Prime Video, based on the novel by Alafair Burke.

According to Deadline, Biel is in talks to star opposite John Cena in Matchbox, a live-action feature film from Apple Original Films, Skydance, and Mattel Films. Biel has been acting in Hollywood since the early 1990s, although she didn't rise to prominence until 2003 when she starred in the 2003 remake of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Her other film credits include the Marvel movie Blade: Trinity, the Jason Statham romantic drama London, the Adam Sandler comedy I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry, and the sci-fi remake Total Recall. Exclusive: Jessica Biel is in talks to star alongside John Cena in Matchbox a new, live-action feature film from Apple Original Films, Skydance and Mattel Films that will be directed by Sam Hargrave. The new film is based on a screenplay by David Coggeshall and Jonathan Tropper.

The film will be inspired by Mattel’s iconic real-world die-cast toy vehicle line of the same name. The legendary Matchbox brand was invented in 1953 by automotive enthusiast Jack Odell to solve a challenge for his daughter, who was allowed to take a toy to school only if it was small enough to fit in a matchbox. When his daughter’s school friends too began clamouring for a “matchbox car,” an iconic brand was born. The high standards of authenticity for Matchbox die-cast cars have driven the brand for over 70 years and generations of fans. Today, two Matchbox cars are sold every second somewhere around the world.

U.K. TV giant ITV, led by CEO Carolyn McCall, reported a 20 percent drop in revenue for its ITV Studios production arm on Thursday, “impacted by the phasing of deliveries and the 2023 U.S. writers’ and actors’ strike.”

However, ITV Studios is on track to deliver record adjusted earnings before interest, taxes and amortization for the full year 2024, “reflecting efficiency gains and a significant fourth-quarter delivery schedule.” ITV Studios revenue is expected to decline in the mid-single digit percent range over the full year though. The company said that will be “only marginally down year-on-year (when) excluding the impact of the U.S. actors’ and writers’ strikes.”

Meanwhile, total advertising revenue was flat in the third quarter, as projected by the company.

Faced with an impossible problem of covering up an accidental murder, the family is forced to confront their strong differences and dark secrets.

Produced by the Colorado-based Stoner Ranch Productions, the film is eyeing a Spring 2025 release.

Sloyer plays Jake Rodriguez, a colleague of Adam’s (Corey Stoll) at a high-level law firm in Manhattan. He and Adam are bonded by their outsider status at the firm, and over time he’s grown close with the whole family. But that closeness is tested by Adam’s murder.

UK network ITV has posted Q1 revenues down 7%, as its studios division felt the impact of last year’s Hollywood labor strikes.

The commercial broadcaster’s total revenue was £887M ($1.1B), compared with £952M in 2023, with a recovery in the ad market offset by a 16% dip at ITV Studios.

The Media and Entertainment unit that houses its main network was up 2% at £505M, according to a trading update this morning. Earnings weren’t broken out.

Total revenue at ITV Studios, which makes the likes of Love Island and Mr Bates Vs the Post Office were £382M, down on the £457M in the same period last year.

According to ITV, this was “due to the phasing of deliveries which are heavily weighted to H2 and the expected impact from both the 2023 U.S. writers and actors strikes and the weaker demand from free-to-air broadcasters in Europe who have been holding back...
