  • Persona 5 is a fantastic JRPG, I have beaten Persona's 3 and 4 before playing this game. I loved both 3 and 4 for there art styles, soundtrack, characters, stroylines, fun gameplay and overall presentation. This game I started playing afterwards which overall really helped my depression in my life. That's why this game and the series in general means a lot to me and is now one of my favorite RPG series. It's battle system is great and one of the best I have ever used in a turn based RPG. It's fast, fun, and it's CTB. The art design is awesome, the music is awesome, the characters are awesome, the social links/exploring is awesome, the story is really entertaining, the game has so much content and you get a lot for your buck. Simply put it if you have never played a persona game this is the best place to start( also get your hands on 3 and 4 too since there are great games).
  • With the exception of the first two games, the Persona series is totally fantastic! The first two were okay, but nothing like what is found within the last three games. Had to wait a long time between games as this one took forever to be released, unlike the fourth game which was not released too long after the third. I am happy to report that this one was worth the wait. I do rank this one ahead of the third game, but slightly behind the fourth. Not by much mind you as I give all three a 10 score. I just feel the fourth one had a better and more interesting story and the music in that one was way better too. This one is by far the best looking of the trio, but that would have to be the case seeing as how three and four were both released on the PS2. This one also was a bit overwhelming at first too, due to the large scale of the game making me wish they had released a strategy guide for this one as that really helped my game play experience with the fourth one as it really helped me sort out what I was going to do and I was easily able to max out social links and stats and such. Here, I was taking a stab in the dark a lot of times, which is why I did not max out all that many social links in this one, kind of got to the end and was shocked it was nearly over despite the length of the game.

The story in this one starts out by having a group calling themselves the Phantom Thieves pulling off a heist. You are thrust right into the action only to find your character taken into custody! We then go back in time as the main character is interrogated by a prosecutor about the events leading up to the failed caper. The main character comes to a city where he must live with a guardian due to the fact he is on probation due to an event where he was unjustly prosecuted for assault. He goes about his high school life, but one day he and his friend Ruiji find themselves in a strange alternate version of their school where they meet a strange cat like humanoid named Morgana. Through Morgana they learn the secrets to this alternate school and learn they have the ability to change a person's ways by infiltrating it. They first tackle a man whose sick desires is making people at the school miserable to the point of suicide! Another student, Ann, soon joins the group and soon they are the Phantom Thieves as more join their ranks and they must continue to infiltrate Palaces and this strange realm known as Mementos as they begin to learn the strange truth and try to reform society!

The game play for this one is like the third and fourth game, which was a relief to me. I was afraid they were going to try to change it up like so many other RPG franchises have done in recent years. No, this one still relies on turn based battles, which I prefer as they offer more strategy during the combat. You also still go through your daily life, though there is a lot more to do in this one and you play a more active role during events in this one. You still must max out social links, which is difficult due to the fact I was going at it rather blindly here. You also do the whole fusion thing that is common in this series and the whole Shin Megami series as well. Very little to complain about, as long as you enjoyed the third and fourth game you should enjoy this one as it is like those.

So, this one was a very great RPG game which is my favorite genre of video games. I like that it is like the old school ones where the battles are turn based and the world is not open world that is so prevalent these days. I also loved the fact that the game play is the same as three and four as I was very fearful that they would change things up as that is like the thing to do these days. It was nice that the makers of this series went against the grain and stayed basically the same with just an upgrade in graphics and a bit more interactivity during your daily life. I would say technically this one is the best of the three, but I still have to go with four's murder mystery story as my favorite of the series. This one though was great and worth checking out!

Persona 5 was the first JRPG I've played in my life and it pretty much changed my thoughts torwards the JRPG genre. First of all, the story is absolutely fantastic! It's extremely long, it takes at least 80 hours to finish but it's so well written and fun to go through! Gameplay-wise, it's quite challenging but very addictive! In fact, the whole game is one of the most addictive single-player videogames I've played in a while! I could play for 5+ hours straight and feel that it wasn't enough. The combat is turn based and you can control every character from your party. You can use various type of attacks, items, mechanics, powers and Persona attacks while spending HP or SP (stamina) with each one of the characters. Every ability is different though and applies different status effects (Physical/Fire/Ice damage, heal, burn, confuse, damage increase, evasion and many more). By the way, when you knock down all the targets, you can use an All-Out Attack, but you can also have conversation with the targets instead, in order to collect them as Personas (kinda like Pokémon) or steal their money. Those mechanics are wonderful! The cast is probably my absolute favorite in a videogame! Also, the soundtrack and the art style are absolutely incredible! Lastly, during free roam, you can basically do whatever you can do in real life in order to improve your social stats that affect your relationships you make with the other characters. However, the story has some pacing issues and the freedom you're given outside of the metaverse feels quite limited.

Pros: + Amazing story + Very addictive gameplay + Phenomenal characters + Awesome mechanics + Gorgeous art style

    Cons:
    • Pacing issues
    • Lack of enough freedom

    Narrative: 9/10 Gameplay: 9/10 Content: 10/10 Characters: 10/10 Music: 10/10 Art Style: 10/10

    Final Rating: 10/10

Persona 5 is a game full of style and confidence. The Phantom Thieves stole my heart and Persona 5 is one of the best videogames I've ever played!

Do I recommend it?: Hell yes! I recommend everyone to give this masterpiece a try.
  • As someone who normally dislikes Anime and doesn't care for RPG's, this was an absolute blast to play. Great gameplay, great story and even good voice acting for the most part (A few side characters sound pretty eh like the Gamer kid who sounds like a 60 year old woman along with a lot of the voices of the nameless extra characters being out of place and terrible). There are some issues like the tutorial going on a bit too long, some elements being introduced too late in the game so there's not enough time to fully explore plotwise or take advantage of gameplay wise (Like Haru who shows up literally 5 minutes before the plot kicks into overdrive) and Mementos can be a bit tedious, but they weren't problematic enough to bog down the experience. Highly recommend this one, even if you aren't into turn based games or anime like me, although this is a really long game spanning near 100 hours, so you need to have a lot of time for this one. Regardless, I'll definitely be keeping an eye on Persona 6 whenever that happens.

This game is incredible. Can't say much bad. Love characters and plot and everything. Highly recommend!
  • I can count on my hands the number of games that have managed to steal 100+ hours of my life away, and never did I think one of those games would end up being a JRPG.

Persona 5 does have some of the setbacks that keep me away from most JRPGs, namely the fact that most JRPGs are very overwritten and drawn out, but, Persona 5 makes up with vibrantly written characters bursting with personality, and the fact that I actually finished this 110 (give or take) hour game speaks for itself.

Characters- 6/10 Many characters felt annoying and the ones that are good are not enough to save the others

Story-7.5/10 (The story on Persona games ar the dungeons but in between the dungeons you have 30-40 hours of free time to go out and hang out with S-Links, The story was good not bad but not amazing. I consider S-links Story as they have backgrounds and have a plot in it of themselves, thankful the good characters had amazing s-links. But the bad ones had stupid S-links that made no sense Bringing the score down to a 7.5, 8 if not the S-links.

Music- 6/10 The music was repetitive and got bland after a bit. but i am not including this into the final score since this is very much based on personal tastes.

    Game-play- 10/10 You know why

Dungeons- 9/10 (I only disliked one dungeons, and one mixed dungeon

Overall not the best game ever but still worth a pick up

    8/10

    Lame
All of a sudden old fashioned tat is cool?

If you like the soundtrack to 70's pornos, then the OST will be right up your street.

If you like annoying school children with personalities lacking any substance, then you'll love this.

If you like dated, old fashioned graphics with OTT GUI's, you'll love this.

If you like incredibly slow pacing then get yourself stuck in here.

In a nutshell it is boring. In fact whenever I discuss P5, I usually say P5 looks like an unbelievably well nurtured game, with an outstanding amount of effort put in by a team of very boring people.

A whole lot of effort to realise a game that is childish and boring and a total waste, of a fair bit of my time.

I will say the combat is OK but the whole game is very wierd, doesn't gel well and the scores just don't make any sense.

I have played much worse. At £5 I can't complain and that is how I am reviewing this but if I had paid £50 for this, I would be so annoyed and it would have got 1/10.

At £5 though. 4/10 is more fair.
